Issue: Closing your account
Subissue: Company closed your account
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/year> I received a letter stating that my new AAA Visa from Comenity was under security review and I had to submit several documents verifying my identity. That same day, I submitted a copy of my electric bill, the front and back of my drivers license, and the front and back of my signed social security card, which satisfied the criteria that Comenity was requesting. Today I received a letter stating that the account has been permanently closed due to continued security concerns, but did not provide any additional information. After calling Comenity, I was originally told that the documents I submitted did not meet guidelines. I asked to speak to somebody who could give me further information as to what guidelines were not met, as I was very careful when I submitted everything to ensure that it met the criteria that had been outlined. I was transferred and spoke to a representative named XXXX who, after being put on hold for about 10 minutes, came back and stated that he also could not find any additional information, just that there were continued security concerns, and he was also unable to provide me with any contact information to reach out to get any further information. After research, it appears that this is not an uncommon thing to happen to people who attempt to add the virtual card to their XXXX XXXX, which I had attempted to do at the prompting of Comenity once I got the approval notification. However the card itself was never used, so there were no purchases that could prompt a security review. Additionally, the phone number that the verification text was sent to is the phone number provided on my application, as well as the phone number I have on record with several other Comenity accounts that I actively have and have never had issue with. At this point, I would either like the card to be reinstated, or else the history of the inquiry and the card to be removed from my credit report. I have a hit not only for an inquiry, but I also now have a card that has shown as open for less than a month, which significantly impacts the age of my credit accounts. I would also like additional information on what prompted my card as a security concern so that I can ensure it does not happen again.
