Issue: Problem when making payments
Subissue: Problem during payment process
Consumer Complaint: I made an online payment through my XXXX checking account to American Express credit card. American Express didn't credit the payment to my account. Instead, they applied it to someone else 's account. I was told this by XXXX and also confirmed by American Express Representative. I also have the name and account number of the person where my payment landed. I provided proof of payment to them that shows that they accepted the payment and they refused to fix the problem. I opened a dispute with them 4 times and they continue to close the dispute stating that they need more information. However, they won't specify what else they need. XXXX bank has provided all that they can provide to show that the payment was sent to American Express. I am now out {$1500.00} and probably American Express is going to send my account to collections and ruin my XXXX credit score. I am caught between two big companies and they have been treating me like a ping pong ball without resolution since XXXX. Please help. I only have access to representatives who don't seem to have the ability to resolve issues and they rely heavily on computers doing the thinking and sending out auto-generated letters.

Consumer Complaint: This is not a duplicate nor is this complaint being filed by a third party, I am filing this complaint myself. Please see this complaint is processed to the letter of the law. we've talked to the bank & they've agreed to remove the account. BUT XXXX has some internal block which they're claiming they can use to not block the account because they feel they're above the law. When questioned why they're not accepting the Identity Theft report they claim they have an internal policy ( which is OUTSIDE FCRA laws ) & they're unwilling to explain why they won't accept the Identity Theft report ( which is a FEDERAL LAW ). So XXXX feels they're above the letter of the law & will not explain their policy... AMEX XXXX Date Opened : XX/XX/2015 Balance : {$5700.00}, AMEX XXXX Date Opened : XX/XX/2015 Balance : {$5800.00}

Consumer Complaint: I am a low income status American. I have a perfect history of payments for the last 5 years. Due to XXXX rules ( I am going to guess ) or lack of fair reporting and use, I am being whopped in any month that I miss the ( unknown to me ) date that a given credit card company sends its that day report to the credit bureaus. This seems completely unfair and also inaccurate per both my use and monthly payment. I use American Express as my primary card for most large transactions ( over {$500.00} ). I all but pay the statement balance off each month but I do so in chunks as I get paid each month. I also use my card each month In a typical month, I will have a balance of {$4700.00} but I pay down over {$3500.00} over the month but I may add {$3500.00} during the month in new purchases. How is it fair or accurate, that American Express provides a one day in the month XXXX and the three credit bureaus and XXXX calculation ( which consumers can not be provided ), use this as if that represents the whole month view? Should credit companies not be required to provide average month numbers or provide the total amount paid each month toward credit balances, instead of some one-day snapshot?? Consequently, when I use my credit card but pay it all but off each month, XXXX penalizes me to point that my score goes low by as much as XXXX points!! the CFPB needs to update and require credit card companies and credit bureaus to use monthly averages as well as statement balance vs monthly total payment info, not just a one-day snapshot.

Consumer Complaint: I had a {$2000.00} Amex gift card and went to use it and only had {$11.00} on it. I did use the initial {$300.00} on XXXX XXXX at XXXX. I kept it at the house ever since. I went to use the balance on the purchase of a refrigerator at XXXX 's on XXXX XXXX, XXXX and they said I only had {$11.00} applied. I looked up activity online and realized somebody had charged most of the value at various vendors over the past 4 weeks. I was able to stop about {$510.00} of it since it was pending and AMEX halted the pending transactions, but weren't willing to do anything about the ones that had already gone through. The card was at my house the whole time and not out of my possession. There are no measures of security to protect against fraud. I bought the card through AMEX, so it is not like I bought it at a store where someone else could've read the numbers. AMEX told me I have to reach out to all of the vendors where card was spent to see if I can recover the money. They were not willing to take accountability on their end to consider that my numbers are possibly a security breach on their end. I am disgusted with their lack of security and effort to make it right after the fact.

Consumer Complaint: This is the continuation of complaint XXXX, as American Express told that CFPB they are going to correct the mistake, fraud and issue me {$200.00} credit, not only I did not see the credit, but also, they USPS mailed me another letter dated XX/XX/XXXX from American Express fraud department XXXX I just received it today ; saying that They are not able to find the fraud charge and American Express wants to lie and play game with customer all over again. Please see the attached letter I just received. American Express lied to CFPB. American Express is fraud financial company itself. Please resolve the strange response I received today after they told CFPB they have fraud charge, they credited {$200.00} in my account?!

Consumer Complaint: I booked a hotel for a conference in XXXX Washington on XX/XX/XXXX for {$690.00} via American Express travel website. The hotel is over XXXX XXXX miles from my home. My reservation was for XXXX. I did not arrive at the hotel until Friday, XX/XX/XXXX. When I arrived at the hotel I witnessed that the hotel was not in any way the same shape that it was represented on the website. The hotel was in a very bad side of town, it There were roaches at check in, I brought this to the attention of the young lady that was at the front desk. I got my room key to head to my room. I took the elevator to my room and there were roaches in the elevator, as i went to my room there was a male and a female in the hall right by my room yelling, cursing and fighting. The hallway smelled like extreme XXXX. I entered my room and the room had stains in the carpet and on the sofa. The male and female were still in the hallways yelling and fighting. I immediately called American Express and told them that I booked this hotel based on their website. I did not feel safe for my life and the hotel was not clean or sanitized. I explained that I was leaving and I needed to find somewhere else to stay. I left immediately and found a different hotel. I stood outside and I explained to the representative that I was misled based on the pictures on the website. There is no way that I could have known that this was not a safe area being as though I lived over XXXX miles away. I explained that I was disputing this charge and I needed this to be escalated to receive a full refund. I was told I would get an email and American express would contact the hotel for a refund. Since I have spoken to 3 managers and received two emails from American Express, they were working on it and I still have not been refunded. I provided my flight and XXXX information as proof that I did not stay at this hotel and I should be refunded. Access trip id : XXXX and reference # XXXX. My final call was on XX/XX/22, I spoke to a manager XXXX. She told me to send my flight and XXXX documents and she would have escalated to receive a full refund. I haven't heard anything since.
