Issue: Lost or stolen check
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: Person1, my father, purchased and signed multiple {$100.00} ( i.e., {$1000.00} worth of ) American Express Travelers checks, apparently on XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX. Check numbers included XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX through XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX XXXX ( among others ). On XX/XX/XXXX, Person1 died ( death certificate attachment 1 ). At his death, check numbers including XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX XXXX through XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX XXXX remained ( copies of checks, attachment 2 ). ( XXXX XXXX XXXX was not present and presumed cashed ), I, Person2, was named Personal Representative ( i.e., executor of his estate ) on XX/XX/XXXX by the Superior Court of XXXX for XXXX XXXX ( attachment 3 ). I was living in XXXX at the time, while my late father and mother were in XXXX state, where I set up a bank account for the estate at XXXXXXXX XXXX. I did not prioritize the redemption of the American Express Travelers checks because I, like my father, foolishly believed American Expresss propaganda that they are better than cash and can be easily replaced or refunded if lost or stolen. In XXXX, my mother tried to deposit the travelers checks into the XXXX account and was told that the bank would only accept the deposit if I made it. Therefore, on XX/XX/XXXX she gave the travelers checks to my sister, XXXX, who was visiting from her home in XXXX ; she passed them to me. Unfortunately, XXXX does not have any branches in XXXX so I was unable to deposit the checks. In XX/XX/XXXX, I moved to XXXX and the checks were lost. I hoped that they would surface when I went through my things but they never did. On XX/XX/XXXX I completed an American Express ( AMEX ) refund application. I faxed it to AMEX as directed on XX/XX/XXXX and again on XX/XX/XXXX. With no response, I called AMEX operators on XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX to follow up. AMEX operators claimed that my faxes were never received but XXXX XXXX opened a claim, number XXXX, on XX/XX/XXXX to finally start the process. She also shared an e-mail address, XXXX On XX/XX/XXXX I e-mailed ( attachment ) my application ( attachment ), along with copies of the travelers checks, death certificate, documents evidencing my appointment as executor, and information evidencing my identify ( i.e., passport, credit card ) and the details of estate account to which I wanted the money to be paid. AMEX did not respond in any way. On XX/XX/XXXX, I sent a follow up e-mail ( attachment ). In response, an AMEX representative apparently called the home of my late father and asked to speak to me, and hung up when my mother said I was not there. On XX/XX/XXXX, I sent a follow-up e-mail ( attachment ), explained who lives at my late fathers address and provided my contact details. Once again, I was not asking for any money to be provided to me ; rather, as the person legally responsible for winding down his affair, I was asking that the money be sent to the legitimately established estate account of person for whom I had provided a death certificate. Following that message, I got a message via my mother that my claim number is XXXX and I was called by XXXX XXXX, who left a number to call. Although I live in XXXX, I made the long distance call, but only ended up being bounced to three different people. The only information the new person ( XXXX ) was able to provide was XXXX e-mail address. On XX/XX/XXXX I sent all of the documents, yet again, to this address ( attachment ). Once again, there was NO response from AMEX. I finally decided to go to the top, sending a letter to XXXX, Chairman and CEO of American Express Co XX/XX/XXXX ( attachment ). I thought that one of his staff would notice and respond to this situation. Once again, no response. At no time has AMEX disputed any of the facts of this case. At no time have they asserted that the checks were somehow fraudulently cashed ( which would have been very difficult because they were signed by my father and most locations ask for identification when cashing such large checks ). Even when I send faxes and e-mails to the addresses which they specify, they never reply to those messages. AMEXs attitude is that they have my late fathers money and if they keep ignoring us we will eventually give up and go away.

Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/2022, I signed up for a XXXX American Express XXXX under a XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX promotion if I spent {$3000.00} within XXXX XXXX. I was given a {$2000.00} credit limit so I charged on the card and then paid it off right away so I could reach the {$3000.00} in purchases. I declined a XXXX XXXX offer at the furniture store, and charged furniture at XXXX XXXX and XXXX to reach the threshold. I got to the {$3000.00} in XX/XX/2022. I called Amex to make sure I did what I had to do to receive the XXXX miles, and I was assured I would get the miles in XXXX XXXX. I called back a XXXX times and was told the same thing. After about XXXX XXXX, I was told they would open an investigation. I heard nothing, and I called again in XX/XX/2022, and the representative said she could see my promotion on her computer screen as part of my records, and she reopened the investigation. I was recently told that the terms and conditions was the reason AMEX did not honor the promotion. I paid a {$250.00} XXXX fee and accrued interest on this card in consideration for the XXXX miles, and Amex breached their offer to me. I was never told I would not receive the miles, and I was affirmatively told I qualified at least XXXX different times as evidenced by Amexs own records.

Consumer Complaint: My problem is with American Express. I have been a member since 2016 and recently got into some financial problems and had trouble paying my bill. I turned auto pay off with them 4 months ago so that I could pay when I could. Today, XX/XX/XXXX Amex pulled a payment without my consent for the entire amount owed. This action put me in the red with my bank. I called Amex and was told that I still had auto pay on. I did not and argued with him. They haven't pulled a payment in that 4 months because auto pay was turned off. Now all of the sudden they pull the entire amount and cancel my card. My bank is trying to stop payment. I feel like this is abuse and totally unjustified. I am outraged at Amex and need someone to put a stop to this kind of unlawful practice. Thanks

Consumer Complaint: American Express did not allow me to set up an auto pay for this corporate account and proceeded to send me generic emails review your statement non stop so those emails really were like spam. I dont travel that much and I racked up {$200.00} in a month and thought I paid it off but didnt. I didnt get notified that I had a late charge and they charged me {$39.00} late fee OUT of {$200.00} and didnt notify fee of that late charge and then charged it again ( another {$39.00} ). I have strong credit and have everything in my life on auto pay. Then when I called, they were unwilling to waive any of the fees and then when I asked to cancel the card, they said they couldnt do that my administrator at my company had to do it. When I asked who that was they said they couldnt tell me. It is interesting that American Express charges the highest interchange fee and still gouges the consumer on fees. I am very upset at these practices and dont want them doing this to other consumers ( ripping them off and then not allowing them to cancel the card ).

Consumer Complaint: American Express continues to deceive and switch/bait. Company Customer Service ( this time a person named XXXX ) continues to ask but not resolve issues and not return calls & follow up. This is clearly an indication of the racket they know and have as it relates to their false advertising and bait & switch tactics. American Express has systemic bait & switch systems in place that advertise benefits and then refuses to provide their customers. Their software is not aligned with their advertisements. It refuses to give American Express consumers & small business benefits promised. Management knows this and continues to attempt to steal from their own customers by saving on costs by rejecting legitimate claims all the while continuing to deceive ( falsely advertise ) and encouraging them to sign up for their expensive cards. Its an systemic racket being run internally at American Express. Even their customer service teams can not correct as its baked into their software. Seems very corrupt. Strongly recommend a XXXX investigation here given the situation.

Consumer Complaint: I am formally disputing the interest charges that have been applied to my account from XX/XX/XXXX which as of XX/XX/XXXX totals {$270.00} I responded to the Hilton Honors AMEX offer that I was sent for a new card with 0 % intro APR for the first 12 months. This was the primary reason why I signed up for this card knowing that I would have a larger balance on the card for the first year. When I got my second billing statement I noticed that I was charged interest on my balance. I contacted AMEX to dispute this and report that I was not given the offer that I initially signed up for. I was told that this was being investigated and I would hear back in 10 business days. ( reference # XXXX ) When I did not hear back, I reached out again and was told that the investigation would take an additional 1-2 weeks. When I followed up again, I was told it would be an additional 6-8 weeks to complete the investigation. When I contacted customer support again on XX/XX/XXXX, I was told that the investigation was concluded and they did not find any evidence that my offer included a 0 % APR for the first 12 months and that no further action would be taken. I told the representative that it clearly states this offer on the postcard I received and this was the offer that I accepted using the offer code XXXX when I signed up at XXXX. The representative informed me that they could not see the previous documents that I had uploaded showing this offer. I told the representative that I felt that this matter was not thoroughly reviewed and that the offer that I initially signed up for was not correctly applied and that I have been fraudulently charged interest over the last several months. The representative created a new dispute ( reference # XXXX ) to have my concern reviewed again. At this time, I am respectfully requesting that the interest that has been charged to my account from XX/XX/XXXX forward be credited back to my account. I will continue to seek a resolution on this issue until this error has been corrected and I have been credited the interest that I have been incorrectly charged. Thank you in advance, XXXX XXXX XXXX

Consumer Complaint: Hello I had opened a new business credit card with American Express around mid of XX/XX/XXXX. There was like welcome bonus offer if I spend {$15000.00} within 3 months, I receive Membership Reward point XXXX cash value almost {$1500.00}. After I reached my credit card spending over {$15000.00} and contacted to ask American Express when I would received Membership Reward point XXXX, however they answered my account was not eligible receiving Membership Reward points because the offer code is not attached and I opened this product of the credit card previously. I disputed I never had this credit card before and it was opened the first of my life time. The case was escalated another department, but my Membership Reward point as welcome bonus as they had promotion for their bossiness was rejected. Also they charged the annual fee {$590.00} in XX/XX/XXXX. I still haven't received my bonus Membership Rearward points as of XX/XX/XXXX. Truly yours,
