Issue: Trouble using your card
Subissue: Credit card company won't increase or decrease your credit limit
Consumer Complaint: American Express just sent me an email that they are decreasing my limit by half. This will negatively impact my credit because it will now look like I'm carrying 60 % of the limit. In reality, I'm carrying less than 30 % of the limit. American Express also checked my credit to make this decision without my consent. They refused provide the original terms with my signature, and they are unwilling to discuss a review of my account until I wait 5 days and call back. In addition, my payments to American Express have all been on time, so there is no reason for the review to happen at all. They will not share documents until I call back, which is after the credit reporting period, and when my credit score will be negatively affected by this unwarranted decrease. Issue: Trouble using the card
Subissue: Trouble using the card to spend money in a store or online
Consumer Complaint: This afternoon ( XX/XX/2023 ) I tried making an online purchase ( through XXXX ) with my prepaid AMEX giftcard, however, it was constantly being declined, so I tested it on another store ( XXXX ) and the same issue was happening. I tried putting my card information through XXXX and XXXX hoping to see a change, but neither worked. Through my attempts, my card was constantly deducted XXXX cents each time I attempted to make a purchase that didn't even go through. My intial amount of XXXX dollars became XXXX dollars because of my attempts. I called AMEX customer service which took me hours only to conclude that they have no current solution to this issue.

Subissue: Problem with rewards from credit card
Consumer Complaint: America Express has falsely advertised ( and continue to currently falsely advertise ) that if I as a holder of two different American Express XXXX cards ( XXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX ) will receive XXXX XXXX XXXX if I refer a friend that is approved and opens an account. Over 15 months ago, on XX/XX/XXXX at XXXX XXXX XXXX I logged into my American Express Account and referred my friend XXXX XXXX to get a XXXX American Express XXXX card to her email address. On XX/XX/XXXX at XXXX XXXX, my friend XXXX received an email from American Express from their email address XXXX to her at the email address I referred. This email specifically states that I referred her and both she and I would get XXXX miles if she applies and as approved. Furthermore, this same email also specifically states that if she decided to choose a different XXXX American Express Card from their selection, we would still both be rewarded. My friend completed this, and has now had her card for over 15 months since and counting. She received her original promotional bonus, yet I have yet to receive a single mile for referring her, and it is now over a 15 months later. I called American Express twice about this ( XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX ), and have never heard back. The rep I spoke with from American Express tonight, XXXX, did not even ask me the date, her name nor any other info. He just said American Express is not showing I ever referred someone. This was strange as the original person I reported this to two months ago on XX/XX/XXXX asked me my friends name, email address, and date so they could research and see what the plan was then and get the referral miles to me. To date I have received nothing for this referral. XXXX then told me to wait at least a week and call back. That is not acceptable. American Express at this point should be proactively reaching out to me in regards to their false advertising that has been on their website every day for the entire 22+ years I have had my own Am Ex Cards. I have a copy of the original email American Express sent to XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX, as she sent it forward to me. This is a gigantic scam by one of the largest credit card companies in the world, and should not be tolerated. At this point, I believe I should be given at least double the original mileage amount I was originally promised to make up for this disturbing attempt of American Express to not honor their agreement with me. I can only imagine how many thousands of other card holders they have scammed out of miles as well, as to date, this referral plan is on their website. I am happy to provide any of my account info, my XXXX number, as well the as original referral email American Express sent to my friend on XXXX.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, we made a purchase in XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX The actual amount that was charged to our card was 10x the amount I agreed to. We disputed the charge with Amex. We filed a police report, a report with the NM attorney general, with a lawyer, and with the ftc on this store that did the overcharge. We have done everything in our power to prove that this charge was fraudulent. The amount was {$30000.00}. We have never made a purchase that large on our personal AMEX and feel like we should have been notified immediately by AMEX and we would have denied the charge and this would have never gotten this far.

Consumer Complaint: I was previously in the reserves component of the XXXX XXXX. During a XXXX XXXX XXXX training in XXXX 2023 I applied for the Amex Platinum Card . Customer representatives assured me that despite my previous status as a XXXX, due to the 45 d XXXX XXXX stint, I would be approved for XXXX and subsequently have the annual fee waived. I XXXX in the regular component of the XXXX 3 months later and was told that I was not eligible for XXXX benefits because at the time of opening the account, I was not XXXX XXXX. Despite countless conversations with representatives, proving orders showing I was on XXXX of XXXX XXXX when I opened the account, and additional orders showing permanent XXXX XXXX status thereafter, I was given the runaround countless times. Each time the representatives would open an additional inquiry. I would then receive a letter in the mail months later with no information other than, " you are not eligible for XXXX ''. Despite being approved for SCRA benefits, I was told it would not apply retroactively, which is in violation of the SCRA law. Despite countless calls to try and have this straightened out, most of these calls would end with empty promises, representatives hanging up on me, or additional inquiries that wouldn't resolve for weeks later.
