Consumer Complaint: I had a convenience card from AMEX and XXXX for my son as simply an authorized user while he was in college. The account belonged to me and I was the only signature on the contract. He is seeing both these cards on his credit report currently and they are dragging down his credit score. He has XXXX responsibility for the balances, I do personally and singularly. He has called both AMEX and XXXX repeatedly and they have done nothing to reconcile his credit with the credit bureaus. Thank you

Consumer Complaint: On or about XXXX of the year XXXX, I opened an AMERICAN EXPRESS credit card account. This was a valid account linked to my bank account and all the charges up until XX/XX/2019 were mine and authorized. However, in XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX, various of my accounts were stolen/hacked including this American Express card and my bank account. I filed an official Criminal Complaint with the XXXX in the XXXX XXXX XXXX about this fraud and theft. I sent American Express a copy of this Criminal Complaint and a " Fraud Affidavit '' in regards to the illegal activity. American Express responded by denying my fraud claim based on the allegation that I allegedly didn't notify my bank of the fraud and that my bank was linked to the American Express Account. But of course it was linked as this was how I paid my American Express bill each month. Which I find irrelevant and false as I did notify my bank of the fraud. And my bank is irrelevant because I reported the fraud to American Express with a valid " Criminal Complaint '' issued by a Virginia Magistrate and Court.

Subissue: Transaction was not authorized
Consumer Complaint: A series of fraudulent transactions were identified and reported in my checking account with XXXX, unauthorized AmEx XXXX, XXXX transactions XXXX totaling {$2100.00} were denied for reimbursement, beyond the " XXXX Reg E time limitation ''. Another XXXX unauthorized transactions totaling {$3800.00} which were reported within the XXXX limit were reimbursed. Of the denied transactions, I requested the ACH details, I have the ACH transaction trace number and requested AmericanExpress locate the transactions. American Express did not find record of the payments in my AmEx account ( not a surprise, they were fraudulent ). I asked to locate by trace number instead and they claim they are unable to locate transactions that way, only by account number and continue to redirect me back to work with the debit institution ( XXXX ), who keeps refusing as its beyond the XXXX XXXX time limitation. Clearly money was removed from my XXXX checking account, it apparently was routed to AmEx, we have the unique trace number, AmEx should be able to find the account and owner where the funds were deposited, but I am unable to get XXXX nor AmEx to actually trace where the money went so we can initiate recovery. Incredibly frustrating that we have the unique identifier to trace the questionable transaction yet both banks are refusing to engage, claiming a regulatory exemption.

Issue: Trouble using the card
Subissue: Trouble using the card to spend money in a store or online
Consumer Complaint: I have tried to use my Amex gift card at multiple online merchants ( XXXX, XXXX, etc. ) and every time I try to use it the card gets declined. Every purchase I have attempted to make is less than the balance on the card so there is no reason for it to be declined. When I called Amex customer care to try and resolve the issue, the representative told me that the issue was on the merchant 's side as they may require additional security information to process the transactions. She recommended that I use the card at an in-person location. I mentioned that the item I am trying to buy is only available online and on the Amex information page on using their gift cards, they state it is accepted online at any merchant that excepts Amex. I explained to her that I have not had any issue using previous Amex gift cards to make purchases and she said that the only resolution that she could offer me is to use the card in person. Unfortunately this is not helpful as I am trying to buy a gift for my husband that is sold only online.

Issue: Trouble using the card
Subissue: Trouble using the card to spend money in a store or online
Consumer Complaint: First let me say that the Amex gift card was purchased in XX/XX/XXXX from a nearby XXXX in the city of XXXX, NC where I reside and given to us as a XXXX gift. I was holding onto the card for when my son needed clothes again and if money got tight. So I attempted to use the card for first time on XX/XX/XXXX by trying to add the {$100.00} gift card to my XXXX account because I prefer to do online transactions through XXXX for security reasons, however the card was not accepted by XXXX. The Amex gift cards used to have no problems being added as a card in XXXX, but this was no longer the case. Then using the card directly, I tried to make purchase online for XXXX , then tried XXXX 's XXXX and then XXXX 's, but all declined. So I contacted an Amex gift card rep via photo although took a while because their automated phone prompts just kept giving useless info and then would end the call with no option to speak to rep. After the third time when I called back and selected a different reason, a Amex rep finally came on and he confirmed the card works on their end cause it showed active, but said that each merchant is not accepting and to call the merchant to ask if they can accept the card. So I did call XXXX while my cart was still waiting for payment after the initial attempt declined. The XXXX support rep entered the card on her end online to pay for the order still showing in my cart, but still was not accepted. She stated that they accepted Amex and technically it should work. So I could not finalize the purchase. All the online merchants I visited accepts Amex and this card should work wherever Amex is accepted. If the card can not be used, then it's the same as Amex stealing money or fraud as far as I'm concerned. The problem is Amex not providing a solution to gift cards that have been paid for but are not usable. If most merchants will no longer accept Amex gift cards for purchases, then I will need the {$100.00} reimbursed in a useable form.

Consumer Complaint: I received multiple AMEX gift cards from my employer as a prize in 2020 and was able to make some purchases with them, but now I have various sums on all cards and I can't use these cards anywhere in the last few years. These virtual cards are declined online and in XXXX XXXX XXXX stores, at restaurants and grocery stores, or XXXX wallet - no one will take these cards. I call AMEX customer service and they can not offer me any resolution. They can not tell me where I can use the cards ( their site claims you can use them anywhere that accepts AMEX ). They can not transfer my balances for my XXXX unusable virtual cards to a physical card. They can not offer me a refund. They do not allow you to use the cards for partial payments, nor do they allow you to charge too close to the total card balance. This system seems designed to skim a few dollars from American consumers. They hold our legal tender XXXX and tell us there is nothing they can do about it. They falsely advertise that their gift cards can be used anywhere that accepts American Express cards. This is simply not the case. I can not reach a resolution with AMEX customer service nor can the original purchaser. I have been unable to use their cards for XXXX years. My money is inaccessible. All I want is the total balance on my cards in cash/check. The card numbers and values are as follows : Card XXXX : XXXX | Pin : XXXX | Remaining balance : {$38.00} Card XXXX : XXXX | Pin : XXXX | Remaining balance : {$10.00} Card XXXX : XXXX | Pin : XXXX | Remaining balance : {$16.00} Card XXXX : XXXX | Pin : XXXX | Remaining balance : {$49.00} Card XXXX : XXXX | Pin : XXXX | Remaining balance : {$250.00} Card XXXX : XXXX | Pin : XXXX | Remaining balance : {$47.00} Card XXXX : XXXX | Pin : XXXX | Remaining balance : {$90.00} Card XXXX : XXXX | Pin : XXXX | Remaining balance : {$70.00} Total unspendable balance across all cards : {$580.00}
