Consumer Complaint: I called American Express Customer service, XX/XX/2024 because my gift card has been declining everywhere I try to use it. I called asking why my card keep declining, and they just told me the balance on the card and that it was active. They said it would be " fixed '' but the card is still declined everywhere. Anytime I try to use it, the checkout says the card has been declined and when I try the " Check Balance '' on American Express Gift Cards website, it charged me {$.00} for " Pending Transactions. '' I still have money on my gift cards, so I do not understand why this is happening.

Consumer Complaint: I received an AMEX Gift Card as.bonus from work, I have been making several attempts to spend the funds on the gift card on line, at XXXX, at XXXX, XXXX XXXX, I have tried to the card at various other merchants online and I am constantly receiving messages that the card is declined or unverified and I need to use another form of payment, I have contacted AMEX Gift Card Customer Care which simply tells me they have lifted the restrictions and to try again in 24 hours, I wait the 24 hours and try again and the same thing happens. I am then told to use another merchant, I have tried using another merchant and the same issue occurs, they reset and lift the restriction and round and round we go. I am told that XXXX is an approved merchant yet the card doesn't work. Even using a small amount same thing. How am I to use the Gift Card if EVERY merchant declines it. I am then told based on security merchants are trying to verify an address, as the Gift Card is vernal purpose they can't add my address to register it therefore there is nothing they can do other than to keep trying or try another merchant of which I have no control if they will accept it or not making my gift card useless. You can't get a money order with the AMEX Gift Card and you can't get cash back and you can't use it online. Its ridiculous! They way that they are treating me as if this is my fault is just plain rude and ridiculous. The card doesn't work! the card will say its on hold, then it will say its active, even when active it will not work. The pending charges of {$.00} cents and {$1.00} hit the card but the actual charges do not AND they never reverse the pending charges of those tiny amounts.

Consumer Complaint: American Express are not honoring their benefits as advertised. Their customer service agents are suggesting that the terms/fine print on their website are different than the terms they use internally. In short, Amex/Delta has a benefit with the AMEX DELTA platinum card that gives you a status waiver for Delta if you spend {$25000.00} on an eligible card-their is language that also mentions if you own a AMEX DELTA Gold card the spend from the AMEX DELTA Gold card can be combined with the AMEX DELTA platinum card if they're linked to the same Delta SkyMiles account. However, AMEX is not honoring this combined spend term that is specified on their card Terms. Their customer support is suggesting else wise to their customers saying that customers must have upgraded from the the Gold to the Platinum card in order for the spend to be combined however this language is not mentioned anywhere on the terms and conditions nor is it actually possible to upgrade as they say since you can not have the same skymiles account linked to both cards since upgrading a card makes the previous card disappear. The AMEX DELTA Platinum card is advertised with a Medallion Qualification Dollar Waiver benefit. I own the AMEX DELTA Gold Card, which does not have the benefit. However, the fine print/terms of the AMEX DELTA Platinum card are advertised as such : " The MQD Waiver benefit is available only to Basic Card Members with one of the following Eligible Cards : Delta SkyMiles Platinum Card , Delta SkyMiles Reserve Card , Delta SkyMiles Platinum Business Card , and Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business Card XXXX Additional Card Members are not eligible to earn the MQD Waiver, but eligible purchases made by Additional Card Members on the Basic Card Member 's Eligible Card Account will count toward the Basic Card Member 's MQD Waiver eligible purchase threshold. Delta SkyMiles Blue, Delta SkyMiles Gold, Delta SkyMiles Business, and Delta SkyMiles Gold Business American Express Cards are not eligible to earn the MQD Waiver, but eligible purchases made on one of these Cards will count towards the MQD Waiver eligible purchase threshold of an Eligible Card if the Card is linked to the same SkyMiles number as an Eligible Card. '' My interpretation of the language that American Express 's fine print/terms uses : The MQD Waiver benefit is only available to the primary holders ( " Basic Card Members '' ) of certain specific American Express cards . These cards are : Delta SkyMiles Platinum Card Delta SkyMiles Reserve Card Delta SkyMiles Platinum Business Card Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business Card There are certain American Express cards that do not qualify for the MQD Waiver themselves. These include : Delta SkyMiles Blue Card Delta SkyMiles Gold Card Delta SkyMiles Business Card Delta SkyMiles Gold Business Card However, if purchases are made on these non-eligible cards and they are linked to the same SkyMiles account as one of the eligible cards mentioned above, those purchases will count towards the MQD Waiver purchase threshold of the eligible card. This means that spending on these cards can contribute to the MQD Waiver requirement as long as they are connected to the same frequent flyer account as an eligible card. I own the Delta Gold card and have {$23000.00} in spend on it, as of XX/XX/XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX, I opened a new account for the Delta Platinum Card and spent ~ {$4000.00} and paid off that balance before XX/XX/XXXX. Thus, I have reached the MQD waiver spend requirement as advertised. Both my Delta Gold and Platinum card are linked to the same SkyMiles account. Yet, I have not received the MQD waiver. after calling delta they told me I needed to have my card upgraded from the gold to platinum in order for the spend to be combined. This is incorrect as it's not stated anywhere and is contradictory to the actual benefit terms.

This amount is supposed to count towards the Amex Offer I enrolled which is " Get a one-time {$100.00} statement credit by using your enrolled eligible Card to spend a minimum of {$250.00} USD in one or more purchases on room rate and room charges at participating XXXX XXXX properties in the U.S. and U.S. territories , the XXXX, XXXX and XXXX from XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX. See terms. '' Combined with other expenses at XXXX, I would be qualified for that {$100.00} credit as stated in the offer. However, the digital team at American Express told me this transaction is not eligible. Even though XXXX XXXX by XXXX is not excluded in the terms and conditions of that offer, they still told me that it is not eligible. This is deceiving and not right. The terms and conditions does not say " excludes but not limited to '' or " ..., etc. '' My transaction has met the condition, is not excluded according to the terms, but I still didn't receive the credit. " Your enrollment of an eligible American Express Card for this offer extends only to that Card. Offer valid only on room rate and room charges at participating XXXX XXXX properties in the U.S. and U.S. territories, the XXXX, XXXX and XXXX. XXXXXXXX & XXXX & XXXX & XXXX & XXXX & XXXX & XXXX Amex sent a letter after I filed a complaint stating that although the aforementioned hotel " is a part of XXXX XXXX affiliate to XXXX XXXX, you may not receive the statement credit if we XXXXeceive inaccurate or are otherwise unable to identify your purchase as qualifying for the offer ''. However, when I reached out to Amex customer service on XX/XX/XXXX or XX/XX/XXXX, the customer representative was able to verify the aforementioned hotel after checking the hotel 's website and told that she will send this information to the team and this {$63.00} will be counted towards the offer. If your customer support has said so, that means you were aware of this information and even if the original information was not accurate, the customer representative was able to verify it and provide the rest of team of the accurate information. If you ( Amex ) deliberately tried to ignore the correct information provided to you by the offer expiration date, you were at fault then. I would like to claim the {$100.00} was supposed to get or equivalent reward points as compensation for this matter.

Consumer Complaint: My wife - XXXX XXXX - opened a XXXXXXXX XXXX credit card account on XX/XX/XXXX and added me ( XXXX XXXX ) as additional card holder. I received the additional card. Amex sent me email that I must provide social security number on XX/XX/XXXX and I provided social secuiry number on XX/XX/XXXX using Amex website and it confirmed back saying card is active and can be used. However when I tried to use the card on XX/XX/XXXX, it was declined. I called Amex and after many call transfers finally today was told that my account was closed by them because of prior unpaid balance history with Amex. The prior unpaid balance history that Amex referred is for card that was opened with Amex in XXXX. I had filed a XXXX XXXX bankruptcy in XX/XX/XXXX and as part of bankruptcy discharge in XXXX of XXXX all credit card including this Amex card were discharged. Since XXXX, I have rebuilt the credit and all other banks have also issued me unsecured credit cards and currently I have clean credit history with credit score of XXXX plus. I am complaining that Amex using their private data history to keep track of credit delinquencies that happened before last bankruptcy date and then using that to defeat the purpose of entire bankruptcy law and decision is unfair and illegal. If all companies do what Amex is doing, then the bankruptcy laws will become meaningless and lose all power. There won't be any clean restart for credit for anyone. That is why I want you to get involved and force Amex to stop this practice. They must honor bankruptcy laws and decisions. They can not override bankruptcy laws using their private records for data earlier then last bankruptcy date. I would be willing to support any legal proceedings if you get involved in one. I would greatly appreciate your assistance.

REOPEN THE ACCOUNT ENDING IN XXXX and XXXX. American Express XXXX form for XXXX page XXXX listed in the SEC in filing for American Express states We periodically securitize Card Member loans and receivables arising from our card businesses through the transfer of those assets to securitization trusts, American Express Credit Account XXXX XXXX ( the Lending Trust ) and American Express XXXX XXXX XXXX ( the Charge Trust and together with the Lending Trust, the Trusts ). The Trusts then issue debt securities collateralized by the transferred assets to third-party investors. American Express has my cardmember loans and receivables for accounts ending in XXXX and XXXX and refuses to reopen the account or accept payments that were mailed. The account is still being monetized by securitizing the asset back security/receivable. I rescind/revoke any security interest American Express has in the account and XXXX, XXXX assumes all titles, rights, and interest in the account for XXXX XXXX. American Express XXXX XXXX AND XXXX XXXXE form dated XX/XX/XXXX which is located in the SEC in filings for American Express states in section XXXX Persons Deemed Owners. " Title to any Bearer Note, including any coupons appertaining thereto, shall pass by delivery. The Issuer, the Indenture Trustee, the Owner Trustee, a Beneficiary and any agent of the Issuer, the Indenture Trustee, the Owner Trustee, or a Beneficiary may treat the Person who is proved to be the owner of such Note pursuant to subsection XXXX ( c ) as the owner of such Note for the purpose of receiving payment of principal of and ( subject to Section XXXX ) interest on such Note and for all other purposes whatsoever, whether or not such Note be overdue, and none of the Issuer, the Indenture Trustee, the Owner Trustee, or any agent of the Issuer, the Indenture Trustee, the Owner Trustee, or any Beneficiary will be affected by notice to the contrary. XXXX XXXX OWNER OF THE ACCOUNT who receives coupons every month in which the owner of such note is supposed to receive payment of principal and interest on such coupon/receivable/security/note. I AM NOT A MINOR AND I AM REQUESTING FULL CONTROL AND OWNERSHIP OF MY ACCOUNT. I REMOVE POWER OF ATTORNEY FOR AMERICAN EXPRESS AND ASSUME FUDICIARY DUTIES FOR THE ACCOUNT. If the account is not reopened within five business days I will perform an audit on the account to locate the CUSIP number to confirm the XXXX XXXX of the account. I will also escalate this matter to the SEC for securities fraud since I provided a security to American Express that is still being traded on the secondary market and I the consumer have not received equal consideration or value for providing the security. I AM XXXX XXXX since I provided American Express with a XXXX. In the card-member agreement I was never informed my credit card loan would be a receivable/security for American Express and be securitized and sold on the secondary market. The omission of this information is blatant contract and securities fraud. American Express XXXX form for XXXX page XXXX listed in the SEC in filing for American Express states In addition to cash and other liquid assets and the secured borrowing facilities and committed bank credit facility described above, as an insured depository institution, XXXX may borrow from the Federal Reserve Bank XXXX XXXX XXXX through the discount window against its credit card loans and charge card receivables. Further, in XX/XX/XXXX, the Federal Reserve established an additional facility, the Bank XXXX XXXX XXXX ( BTFP ). The BTFP offers loans of up to one year in length to banks and other eligible depository institutions against XXXX XXXX, agency debt and mortgage-backed securities, and other qualifying assets as collateral. Any qualifying assets pledged to the XXXX are valued at par by the Federal Reserve for the purpose of determining the amount of collateral we can borrow against. The amount of borrowing capacity available to XXXX at either the discount window or the BTFP is subject to the amount of qualifying collateral that it may pledge. As of XX/XX/XXXX, XXXX had available borrowing capacity of {$67.00} XXXX as a result of XXXX credit card loans and charge card receivables that were pledged to the Federal Reserve through the discount window. It also had approximately {$1.00} XXXX in XXXX XXXX, agency debt and mortgage-backed securities that could be pledged through the XXXX. Whether specific assets will be considered qualifying collateral and the amount that may be borrowed against the collateral remain at the discretion of the Federal Reserve. Due to regulatory restrictions, liquidity generated by XXXX can generally be used only to fund obligations within XXXX, and transfers to the parent company or non-bank affiliates may be subject to prior regulatory approval. During the three months ended XX/XX/XXXX, we did not borrow from either the discount window or the BTFP and no amounts were outstanding on either facility at the end of the period.. The above section clearly outlines how American Express uses the consumer credit card accounts as receivables to serve as security collateral to secure borrowing from the FEDERAL RESERVE. THE ACCOUNT IS PREPAID SINCE I XXXX, XXXX on behalf of XXXX XXXX XXXX American Express with XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX TO THE FEDERAL RESERVE. Once again, I will be forced to submit a complaint to the SEC FOR SECURITIES FRAUD if the account is not REOPENED WITHIN XXXX BUSINESS DAYS. Thank you for all your help to resolve this matter. Consumer Complaint: Hello, I have been an AMERICAN EXPRESS card holder for many years. Recently, I received with appointment my statement showing an annual fee. I have other credit cards with no annual fees and same benefits so i decided to close the gold XXXX credit card ending on XXXX. AMEX stated that the fee is for the 2024 year, and they wanted it cancel by XXXX XXXX. I cancel it as soon as i could on XX/XX/XXXX, i had XXXX balance. upon closing the account, AMEX refused to refund the annual fee for YEAR 2024 ( {$99.00} ) not only that, but they intent to charge me late fees and interest fees for a fee unfairly charge to my account. AMEX is threatened to RUIN MY CREDIT SCORE IF I DON'T PAY THEIR FEES. AMEX is charging {$99.00} to clients who cancel the card regardless. They don't believe in prorating the annual fee or so. AMEX unethically charge me an annual fee but I had canceled the card and will not use it in 2024!! Don't charge customers for something they don't use.
