Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Received bad information about your loan
Consumer Complaint: This is an appeal to have the Department of Education include periods of forbearance for XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX in the new rule changes/waiver process. This is due to misleading and inaccurate information provided by the loan servicer Fedloans which told me after I broke my back that no other payments options existed and informed me if I couldnt pay to go into forbearance- which I had to do multiple times between XXXX and XXXX due to the setback financially from my medical recovery and PT appointments. If I had been informed that ai could make lower payments those payments would now count towards my 120 months for forgiveness. Fedloan has provided deceptive guidance to borrowers for years to gain compound interest after forbearances without providing any other solutions to those trying to obtain PSLF. I have been employed in public service since XXXX, and have been paying on my loans through various payment plans since, but due to the forbearances I was told was my only option when I had financial hardships, I still have almost 4 more years till I can be forgiven- having my student loans for almost 19 years and because of the compound interest- owe double what ai borrowed to begin with. This is predatory tactics for financial gain of Fedloan servicing.

Consumer Complaint: My federal student loans were placed in deferrment multiple times as my servicer changed. I'd like to back pay these months to count toward my PSLF counts. I've reached out to Fed Loans ( my current servicer ) and USDoE multiple times but have never received a response.

Consumer Complaint: I was steered into a prolonged period of general forbearance by my loan servicer ( FedLoan Servicing ) from XXXX of XXXX through XXXX of XXXX. My partner lost his job, cutting our available household income in half, but since we were not married, his loss of income did not lower my monthly IDR payment, and I was told that my only option was to go into forbearance if I could not afford my payment. The result is that I lost over 20 months of eligibility toward Public Service Loan Forgiveness during this time because of this bad advice. I should be eligible for loan forgiveness now, since I have been repaying my loans since XXXX of XXXX, but I still have two more years before I will be forgiven because of this bad advice to stay in a prolonged forbearance.

Consumer Complaint: Forbearance and deferment need to be added to the PSLF waiver. So much information I received was incorrect. I was working full time while in XXXX XXXX, and was never told that when they automatically put the accumulating loan in forbearance I would lose years toward PSLF. I could have made payments during this time if I hadn't been steered in the wrong direction. I would be at the 10 year/120 payment mark by now if Fedloan had given me the correct information. This system is broken, and it's breaking me.

Consumer Complaint: For months I have tried to resolve issues XXXX raised about my XXXX forgiveness process, but their communications are inaccurate, confusing, and vague. Today I received a document that said I didn't qualify for XXXX ( traditional -- I knew that ), but I might qualify for XXXX. Again, I knew this. I consolidated my XXXX loans to Direct Loans as directed, and I received confirmation that my employment was approved. What more is there to do? Why more confusing communication? Further, the document sent today has my current employer listed with an " end date '' of XX/XX/2021, the date they received my employment information I suppose? But it clearly says in my application this is my current employer ; I am a teacher at this school. I know I have more than XXXX months of public service. In fact, I've never worked anywhere but the federal government or a non-profit. Why is XXXX doing this to us? This is sheer incompetence. This process should not take so long. My loans were consolidated months ago! I hope to get resolution to this process ASAP. I am feeling very strung along.

Consumer Complaint: I write to request that periods of full-time public service combined with periods of in-school deferment be counted toward PSLF. [ I was informed by FedLoan that payments while in grad school would not count toward PSLF, so I did not make any payments. ] If these payments would count toward PSLF, I would have enough payment for my loans to be forgiven under the new waiver. This would be a huge weight lifted from my shoulders as I have been in repayment ( on and off ) since 2011 and the amount owed has actually gone up! It's ridiculous!

Consumer Complaint: When I enrolled in XXXX XXXX XXXX, I was told by my lender ( FedLoan ) that my loans must be placed in " XXXX '' status even though I was to begin payments. During this time of forbearance, I could have been making payments toward my previous loans toward my PSLF. I was in grad school from XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX which would have accounted for many payments toward forgiveness. I have XXXX in the XXXX XXXX for 25 years and 10 years during this period of forced XXXX forbearance. I am learning now that this was not required and that I could have had my loans in repayment. I trusted the representatives to give me the correct information concerning my loans which they obviously did not.

Consumer Complaint: My Federal Student loan Principal Balance is showing as {$180000.00} which is impossible since that is way above the aggregate loan limits allowed. My loans originated back in 1996 and I have requested all of my original master promissory notes to prove that this is incorrect but have not received any of them. I have called, sent certified letters directly to them and no response.
