Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan

Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/XXXX To Whom it May Concern : I write to request that you urge the Biden Administration to modify the Public Service Loan Forgiveness ( PSLF ) program such that periods of full-time public service combined with periods of forbearance and/or deferment would count toward PSLF, regardless of whether payments were made during those periods. I graduated in XX/XX/XXXX with my XXXX of XXXX XXXX and began working in XXXX XXXX six months later. Ive been in XXXX XXXX XXXX since that time and due to the pay of this chosen career have had difficulty paying in full towards my student loans. Throughout multiple contacts with FedLoan to assist in my payments, I was advised to defer or place my account in forbearance while working to help me financially. Currently, only 48 payments in my 12-year work history will count towards student loan forgiveness. I was steered by my loan company to go into forbearance or deferment unaware of the long-term consequences. I have dedicated my career to public service, working with XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX as well as XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. Ive sat in hospitals, jails, emergency rooms, court rooms and dedicated my time and energy to the people in our country. Due to policies that were advised by this company ( FedLoan ), many people including myself have been unable to achieve the promise of student loan forgiveness. My applications have sat for months waiting to be resolved with very little progress noticed. Im continuing to work in XXXX XXXX with an ever-growing caseload. I work with substantiated cases of XXXX in a small XXXX XXXX of Michigan community . Im raising three children of my own and caring for my husband who was recently treated for XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. Resolving this issue is life-changing for public servants so that we can continue to work in our communities without the crushing weight of student loan debt. Please bring light to this issue and make meaningful change for me, my family and our communities. Public servants are VITAL to our communities.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: I was working as a XXXX XXXX XXXX and desperately trying to figure out how to get my student loans to be in a qualified program for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program ( PSLF ). My employer at the time was a XXXX XXXX which was acceptable under the terms of the PSLF. What I did not know was that my loans needed to be consolidated into a specific type of repayment plan to qualify. So simply working for a qualifying employer was not enough. I also needed to have my loans consolidated into one loan and then put into a particular repayment plan that also had to qualify under the rules of the PSLF. When I called Fed LoanXXXX to see how to get my loans to qualify, and to let them know that I was having a difficult time making my payments which were over {$700.00} per month I was advised to by Fed LoanXXXX to have my loans put into a repayment plan that was more affordable, however that repayment plan was NOT one of the ones that qualified for the PSLF. So I lost out on many months of payments that were made but don't count towards my PSLF. I was also advised to put my loans in deferment during the summer ( as a XXXX we didn't get paid in the summer so funds are extremely tight ) which I did, also not knowing that this would be problematic in terms of the PSLF I was trying to achieve. Due to this, I have been paying back my student loans since 2014, but am only half way through qualifying for the PSLF. And my current loan amount is MORE than I originally borrowed even after paying for 8 years.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Need information about your loan balance or loan terms

Consumer Complaint: Since XXXX I have been waiting on response on my discharge application. A month ago they erroneously deemed my application incomplete based on not having accounting transcripts that were in fact provided to them Nevertheless, I paid to have official transcripts sent and still have not heard anything back. Its been one thing after another and its ridiculous - not to mention these erroneous loans are causing strife as I am a single mother. This is unethical!

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: Hello, I submitted my PSLF paperwork to fedloan in XXXX. In XXXX they approved 83 payments. They did not include payments I made from XXXX XXXX XXXX while I was working for the XXXX XXXX for a member of XXXX and that employment was also not listed as an approved employer. I have called FedLoan 3 times but they tell me I need to wait to for the waiver to be applied. But these payments arent part of the new waiver and should have already been counted. I submitted a complaint through studentaid.gov on XX/XX/XXXX. Their website says 15 days and I should hear back but I called at 15 days, 30 days, and again today at 35 days and they still have no information.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: I take issue with the handling of my student loans since i graduated from college back in XXXX. I write to request that you urge the XXXX XXXX to modify the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ( XXXX ) program such that periods of full-time public service combined with periods of in-school deferment would count toward XXXX, regardless of whether payments were made during those periods. Please consider the grounds upon which I issue this request : I have worked for public institutions in higher education since XX/XX/XXXX. When I began my employment at a university I called FedLoan Servicing regarding beginning my payments and was told that since I was a student it would be pointless to begin paying my loans since it would not count toward forgiveness. During this time I was only making around XXXX XXXXXXXX annually and would have qualified for XXXX XXXX monthly payment. Since that time I have consistently worked and gone to school full-time and have been told over the years that it would be pointless to go into repayment since I was a student. At XXXX point I was informed that since I so many loans if I began making payments some of the loans would not be eligible for repayment so I needed to wait until my degree was confirmed to begun payments on them so that they would have the same payment counts. Upon graduating in XXXX my payments began and my count began.

Issue: Problem with a credit reporting company's investigation into an existing problem

Subissue: Difficulty submitting a dispute or getting information about a dispute over the phone

Consumer Complaint: I have sent dispute letters to Fed Loan Servicing. They have never validated the debt as requested. The only thing they have done was make a remark on my credit report. As I have stated to this company DOES NOT have my permission to report any information to the credit bureau. This is a VIOLATION OF 15 U.S. 1681 ( a ) ( 4 ), 15 U.S. 1681a ( 2 ) ( B ) and 15 U.S. 1681b ( a ) ( 2 ). I was never given the opportunity to decide if I wanted my information reported. That is in reference in the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ( 15 U.S. 1681a ( 2 ) ( A ) ( III ). VIOLATION OF 15 U.S. 1681 ( a ) ( 4 ). Fed Loan Servicing is not reporting accurate information. On my XXXX credit report, there is an " X '' placed on dates XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX where the data is unknown. I have supplied the XXXX XXXX for XXXX. If the data is unknown, this is not 100 % ACCURATE! That is a violation of 15 U.S. 1681e ( b ). Fed Loan is also in violation of compiling, furnishing, misleading, false and deceptive forms. That is in violation of 15 U.S. 1692J. Pursuant to 15 U.S. 1692K, Fed Loan must comply to any provisions to make my credit report compliant.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Need information about your loan balance or loan terms

Consumer Complaint: As per the limited time waver ( 1 year to apply ) from the Department of Education and XXXX XXXX XXXX ( FSA ), I would like to know if my XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, and XX/XX/XXXX payments will count toward my student loan payment as qualifying months. There is proof on file that I was employed by the XXXX of NY for this entire time. Although this was passed in XX/XX/XXXX, no payments have been added to my account. I mailed you the application and I received a letter months later stating that I did not sign the application. I have since mailed you back another signed application and still my account has not been updated. I have been calling since XX/XX/XXXX and was told that XXXX is updating my account. To which XXXX stated that Fed-Loan is supposed to update the account. I have called to see when this account would be updated as of today, I was told that it would be another 6 months. I would like for this account to be updated as soon as possible. Thank you for your time and cooperation.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: I called fedloans in XXXX because I could not afford my monthly payment as a new teacher with XXXX kids. They did not offer to check my eligibility for an IBR, they told me to submit a forbearance. Then, I started my masters in fall XXXX, they did not tell me that my loans would automatically go into deferment. Deferment was not my choice and forbearance was psyched on me. I worked with an eligible employer since XXXX and my payments should have been {$0.00}. In XXXX, they advised me to consolidate my Loans. They did not tell me that o could opt out of deferment and back date it. They fail to acknowledge giving me misinformation. Please take this opportunity to understand that I was pushed into deferment and forbearance without the proper information for PSLF. All I ask is that they review my case and apply my years of service to my count.
