Issue: Took or threatened to take negative or legal action
Subissue: Threatened to sue you for very old debt
Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/XXXX - Received a phone call from XXXX (? ), spoke with XXXX at XXXX ; she stated I had an outstanding credit card debt, {$5200.00} breach of contract with GE Mastercard, stated I had never taken care of it, there would be an investigation and lien put on my assets, and threatened a civil lawsuit. They claimed to have sent me documents in the mail a month prior with an attempt to resolve. I asked them what address they had sent this to, and they provided a prior address I lived at over 9 years ago. I gave them my current address and they said they would mail me the documents. Prior to this conversation, they left a VM for my husband that same day. XX/XX/XXXX - I called GE Money and spoke with their recovery dept ( the account was under my maiden name- XXXX XXXX ). XXXX XXXX stated the account had ben closed in XXXX. When I asked if they could provide me information on the account, they said I needed to request this in writing. I requested a copy of my credit report from all three reporting agencies, and showed zero delinquent or past due balances. XX/XX/XXXX - Received a phone call from a courier service asking me to confirm my address. They gave me a case # and phone # of a law firm to contact as they claimed they did not know what was being sent to me. I called XXXX and spoke with XXXX at XXXX XXXX XXXX. He sounded very legit and was very empathetic to the situation. I told him I had not received anything in the mail and confirmed my address. He said he could send me a Docusign agreement via email and it would be valid for 24 hours should I want to settle out of court. I received it but have not signed or paid. I used XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX years ago to consolidate and pay off any outstanding debt. When I spoke with them ( XX/XX/XXXX ) they said this sounds like a scam and not to engaged. To this day, I have not received anything in the mail regarding an outstanding debt from XXXX.

Consumer Complaint: I had a Sam 's Store Credit Card issued by Synchrony Bank for several years. I attempted to cancel it last year after not using the card for many months. The Bank ignored my attempts to cancel the card, and I called numerous times and finally reached a Bank person who canceled my account. I received a letter confirming the closed account and XXXX balance in XXXX 2023. However, since then I have received monthly bills assessing late fees and additional interest, as well as weekly letters demanding payment. I have a six page letter documenting all of this. The Bank has not responded. I think this a policy of the Bank to generate more revenue.

I have not received any communication written or a call from Sync/Walmart and it has been over 5 years this has been sitting on my credit.

Issue: Trouble using your card
Subissue: Can't use card to make purchases
Consumer Complaint: I have had a chronic problem with Synchrony Bank. A few examples include unauthorized charges ( XX/XX/XXXX ), Incorrect credit report notation ( XX/XX/XXXX ) and Incorrect statement notations ( XX/XX/XXXX ) to name a few. My current issue involves the wrongful dishonor of a legitimate medical co-pay charge from a medical provider ( " merchant '' ). By way of background, at the time this {$40.00} charge was attempted, there was a remaining available credit amount of {$7000.00} and the card was, and always has been, current and I also received a note from the bank thanking me for managing the account. Not only did this declination cause me considerable embarrassment, it constituted the bank 's taking an adverse action, limiting or suspending access to this account without proper prior notification. I contacted the bank and was not provided a reason for this adverse action except that the : ... merchant don't ( sic ) accept the card ... '' This " explanation '', of course is pure nonsense, as the card is represented as a universally accepted MasterCard and I was on the phone with the merchant as they attempted to put through the charge - unsuccessfully three times. For the record, I am an authorized user.

Issue: Problem when making payments
Subissue: Problem during payment process
Consumer Complaint: Synchrony Bank has a program where they automatically force customers to join a promotional financing plan, and the monthly statement does not explain fully how this works. The plan was activated for {$500.00} or more at XXXX time, now they have lowered the charge amount to {$190.00}. When I pay my monthly bill, I pay more thinking that the extra money will be added to the promotional financing amount. That does not occur. Nothing on the monthly statement tells the customer how this program really works. I called Synchrony Bank on XX/XX/2023 and talked to a supervisor. I was told that the customer has to call Synchrony every month and tell Synchrony if the customer wants to add some of the monthly payment to reduce the promotional balance. The supervisor told me that the promotional amount for my charge will be {$30.00} a month. I charged {$320.00}. There is no way I can pay {$30.00} for XXXX months, to pay off a promotional charge of {$320.00}. Synchrony tells the customer to pay the promotional amount in XXXX months, or they will charge the customer interest. There is no way to do that! This scam is not outlined on the monthly statement! Synchrony forces the customer to use this promotional plan, then makes it impossible to pay it off, then charges the customer more interest after XXXX months. When I asked not to be included in this confusing promotional financing plan, my request is ignored and denied! The monthly statements explains this promotional financing plan. Nowhere in the explanation does it mention calling Synchrony every month, and telling the operator that you want money added to the promotion balance. I had this problem before. I went to XXXX for repairs on my car. XXXX charged me a little over {$600.00}. I charged it on my Synchrony credit card. I later discovered that the repairs were not fixed, and got a full refund. I put the money back on my Synchrony card. None of that payment was applied to the promotion balance. Synchrony never told me about calling in every month!

Consumer Complaint: Synchrony Bank / Lowes charges {$2.00} above the already high interest rate. The rate has increased because of the Fed and every month they had a fee because there is interest. i have had the card 6 years, never missed a payment. I called and they confirmed they charge a {$2.00} fee above the interest i already pay. i do not brie e this is fair and they are charging above and beyond what they should. This seems fraudulent and they are gouging us. thx

Consumer Complaint: I applied for a credit card with Care Credit basically synchrony bank. I was approved and used it for my XXXX XXXX. I used {$2000.00}, of which I was on a no-interest plan for 1 year. However, I noticed throughout my year I was randomly being charged interest of around $ XXXX {$9.00} on random months.. 2 months prior i called to get this amount removed to pay off my credit card so I had no interest ... As I was only able to see 60 months of transactions I was told to hold on to my final payment until the account has been updated. This started In XXXX of XXXX. I was told each month it would take 30 days, I had to call back every month for 6 months as I was told each time a dispute was never opened... As of XXXX, i paid what I thought I would owe, which is 1 month after the interest kicked in. I was told the dispute would be resolved and the interest would go away. Month after month I was told a dispute was never opened finally in Fed I was told that it's too late now and I should have just paid it all off ..... I have documentation of every month I called and every conversation, when i call it I spend hours explaining the issue as they have no notes they do not understand, i have been told the prior that should have been in play was for 3 different reasons, late fee interest, some special promo interest, or something I signed up for, it is different every time I talk to someone... I have even gotten to the point of 3 months ago I said if you just remove the late fees I would pay it all off.. They told me they would get back to me with an answer and still no response... I companied via XXXX i was told they would contact me and they still have not, this was 1 month ago. They are single-handedly DESTROYING my credit..

I was recently offered a PayPal credit card which turned out to be offered from Synchrony Bank. The offer claimed there would NOT be a HARD ENQUIRY.
