Consumer Complaint: I have a credit card with Lowes through Synchrony Bank. Recently, they have imposed a {$1.00} paper statement fee. How can a credit card company charge a fee for a document they are required to provide in writing to consumers- this is the definition of a junk fee. Passing a fee for a document credit cards are legally required to provide to consumers in writing under Regulation Z. If I do not have access to a computer, I will be penalized and charged a fee for something that credit card companies are required to provide to consumers. Please help me understand how legally you are able to charge this junk fee to consumers. Thank you very much.

Subissue: Company closed your account
Consumer Complaint: I have had three of my accounts closed by synchrony bank over the last few years. No matter if you have money charged on them or not. Doesnt matter if youre making all your payments. It hurts your credit score when they do this. It seems to be the practice that this bank loves to do. I feel they are hurting consumers. I dont feel that any closures from this bank should be on anybodys credit report- because they are abusing it and hurting consumers with this practice!

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Card was charged for something you did not purchase with the card
Consumer Complaint: I have a Crate and Barrel credit card which I only use at that store. However, I received an unknown charge and reported it. The bank is Synchrony Bank. They have been really bad in trying to resolve this charge. At first they said they recognized the charge and took my concern of fraud. They told me not to pay that amount ( only {$7.00} ) and cancelled and issued my a new card. Later they sent me an online letter saying the charge was only a pending charge and was not recorded. However, this is not true, it is still on the account and now since I didn't pay it, a late charge was assessed. So this is the first part of my complaint that they didn't resolve the fraud charge. Secondly they have been very difficult to deal with. On the phone, they said this was the first they had heard of the fraud even though I have the letter saying they looked at it. Then they said they have no access to fraud information. Then they put me on permanent hold where they never came back to the phone. I then tried to contact someone in chat that tried to tell me the same thing but after persisting they did find the fraud report only to say they did not have a fraud department and I need to call the phone number. I called the phone number on the letter they sent me and those are the people who say they also can not do anything. Then she told me to call back during business hours. It is still unresolved. They use some system with secure messaging where they never really send you anything but just a link to online messages. After they changed my credit card, all those messages are gone.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: Previously, in Complaint # XXXX, I filed the following complaint to stop PayPal Credit from XXXX my reputation and to provide the evidence they claimed to have. Instead, Paypal Credit ended up resolving the dispute in my favor. See below and attached documents for details. *************************************************************************** On XX/XX/XXXX, Walmart claimed to have delivered an item to my home address. But no delivery was made on that day. I have checked our XXXX and questioned everyone in our home, but there was no delivery trace. I checked my Walmart app to report the situation, but I was advised to wait at least two business days because sometimes couriers mark an item delivered before they do. I waited three days, and nothing happened. Between XX/XX/XXXX and XXXX, 2023, I called and chatted through the app with Walmart to notify them of the situation and get a resolution. But they kept XXXX ( excuse my XXXX ). As a result, I reported the incident to Paypal Credit on XX/XX/XXXX. I continued to dispute and contact them on XX/XX/XXXX, and XX/XX/XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX, Paypal Credit claimed to have received proof that I had received the item and continued to seek Payment. As a result, I closed the account and requested a copy of the evidence they claimed to have so I could pay them ( In case I have lost my mind ). As of today, I am still waiting to receive evidence that supports the PayPal credit claim. But PayPal Credit continued to send me bills with penalties, Interest, and other ridiculous charges. Also, PayPal Credit continued to supply credit bureaus with derogatory remarks on my credit profile. The Fair Credit Billing Act ( FCBA ) requires PayPal Credit to investigate a dispute thoroughly. But they failed to do so and continued to make a decision consistent with a description of discrimination. They also could not establish a factual obligation that requires me to pay them. Remember, the account was closed on XX/XX/XXXX, to the satisfaction of Paypal Credit. ******************************************************************************* Between XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX, against The Fair Credit Reporting Act, PayPal Credit sought Payment for the entire disputed transaction amount. At the same time, they supplied all Major Credit Bureaus with derogatory remarks. Which resulted in stress, uncertainty, XXXX, other XXXX XXXX, and the following financial damages : My credit score dropped by more than XXXX ( XXXX ) points. Lost a total amount of {$8000.00} in credit line. Forced to pay higher interest rates. Denied credit and lost privilege to billable purchases. Even after Complaint # XXXX closed, PayPal Credit resumed supplying all major Credit Bureaus with a derogatory remark on my profile, inflicting more XXXX XXXX XXXX and disregarding the law. Furthermore, on XX/XX/XXXX, I demanded that PayPal Credit recover the financial damages their inaccurate reporting cost me. But they chose to ignore the seriousness of the situation and create a loop. CFPB, you are responsible for keeping other citizens safe from Federally regulated outlaws like PayPal Credit and ensuring all laws and regulations are followed in their business engagements. In my case, If PayPal Credit refuses to provide the relief sought in the attached letter, I will be bringing a lawsuit to recover not just the financial suffering PayPal Credit caused but also all the XXXX XXXX XXXX they have inflicted.

Consumer Complaint: I opened an Ashley Credit Card through Synchrony bank on XX/XX/XXXX in the XXXX, New Jersey store, totaling {$4300.00}, with 0 interest for 24 months. I only receive an email that payment is due, no paper statement. I have been paying {$200.00} a month. It will be paid in full in XX/XX/XXXX. When I received the XX/XX/XXXX email I saw there was a higher amount owed. Upon researching I saw charges that totaled {$900.00}. I found out that these charges were for credit protection and security, that I never signed up for. Apparently this was done on a mobile device at XXXX XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX. I called the credit card protection company and they said they can only refund {$560.00}, the past 12 months charges and will not refund the balance of {$330.00} They claimed that they emailed me a package about this protection when I supposedly signed up for it on XX/XX/XXXX. But I never received this because I did not sign up for it. I contacted the customer service dept and the fraud dept at Synchrony and was told they can not reverse the balance of {$330.00}. I explained it was fraud, they changed my account, but to no avail. The {$330.00} is still there. I WILL NOT pay for something I did not purchase or sign up for. I dont want my account going to collection. I have excellent credit. I have many other credit cards that I could have used. I opened this account because it was 0 interest for 2 years. Please advise as I am at my wits end and dont know what else to do.

Consumer Complaint: This is for Syrchrony Bank. I made a double payment, XXXX XX/XX/XXXX for {$55.00} and another XXXX XX/XX/XXXX for {$40.00}. My minimum payment which was due XX/XX/XXXX was {$37.00}. I clearly made my payment ( s ) well before the due date but they told me their system doesn't recognise early payments made and charged me a {$41.00} late fee, twice. The minimum payment showed I owed XXXX for the XX/XX/XXXX date around XX/XX/XXXX because I checked it. They are going in and changing amounts due at random and this is happening on their Venmo cards and their Paypal cards and it seems they are doing this solely to be able to charge these late fees when, in actuality, the payments are being made early and are not late at all! This has happened several times on both those acounts.

Consumer Complaint: This complaint is in regard to consumer deceit / predatory practices by Mattress Firm / Syncrony Bank. XXXX : We were at the XXXX XXXX XXXX and met with XXXX and XXXX who were Mattress Firm sales reps. We were intrigued about a massage chair. We were unsure of making such a large purchase, over {$7000.00}. They ASSURED us verbally that we could do our research and cancel before the delivery date with NO penalty if we bought the chair that day. We agreed since we asked MANY times if we could cancel delivery without any penalty and they continued to say yes. They did not stipulate any time frame of cancellation. They said anytime BEFORE delivery. This was all verbally stated to us. My husband was also present. We signed some documents I believe on an XXXX. They were rushing us through the signatures, telling us that this was common legal stuff. My husband and I AGAIN asked if there was any fee for cancelling this purchase before delivery. They verbally stated, absolutely not, if you cancel before delivery there is no charge, but once it is delivered there are no returns and no refunds. We signed the documents and specifically asked for a copy of this. They proceeded to tell us that it would be emailed to us by the end of the day. I asked if we could just get a printout of the contract and they said they are unable to do this. We left with 3 pieces of paper, none of which mentioned anything about a cancelation restocking fee or any mention of a time limit for cancelation. ( See attached paperwork that was given to us at day of purchase ) XXXX : XXXX texted asking if we could take an earlier delivery. We responded that we would actually need to cancel the delivery which was initially set for XX/XX/11. He then mentions the cancellation fee. This is the first time we were ever aware of this fee. We respond that we were never told of a cancellation fee and there was no response from him. ( see attached text message thread ) XXXX : I made a formal cancellation request with Mattress Firm online. We had no other number to contact since this was not purchased in a specific store. ( See attached email ) XXXX : We texted XXXX ( sales associate ) again that we now received a bill for {$750.00}. We had no idea about any cancellation charges, or even how much we would be charged as we NEVER received the paperwork that they made us sign at time of purchase on the XXXX. We specifically requested that paperwork be emailed to us. There was no response. We then disputed the charge with Synchrony bank. We were on the phone for about an hour. XXXX : I reached out again to the sales associate stating I would need to take legal action if I did not hear back. He finally texted back I can double check the paperwork but yes there is a charge for cancelling. This was the FIRST time this was mentioned to us. He said Ill look into it today. Im not home right now, and there was no further response. We were never given a copy of the contract that we signed on the XXXX at time of purchase. XXXX : We received another bill now with late charges and interest. We called Synchrony bank, and they informed us that the previous dispute was not filed. They did not know why. So now we were on the phone for another hour and the dispute went through and we received a mail correspondence confirming this. XXXX : We received another statement from Synchrony bank stating the dispute was resolved and we now owed {$760.00}. We called Synchrony bank and was told that the company submitted paperwork stating we signed a clause that had a {$750.00} restocking fee with our signature. We STILL have never been given a copy of this document.
