Consumer Complaint: I have a number of student and parent loans from myself and my XXXX children 's college educations that are now all administered by Nelnet. When I was in school and when my children were in school some of the loans went in and out of deferment automatically- without my consent. I have been making the minimum payments for about five years but the total for all of the loans has not decreased more than a few XXXX dollars. Recently I requested a listing of all payments and how the payments were applied for each account. I noticed that on some of the accounts- especially one with a payment of over {$100.00} a month- all of the payment was applied to interest for several years. There are payments that say " reapplied borrower payment '' which makes me think Netnet redistributed payments at some point. Customer service agents at Nelnet can not answer questions about distribution. They can only read the same information about the accounts that I can access online. I think that Nelnet is mishandling my accounts. How can XXXX % of a standard repayment payment not pay any principal for months or years at a time? There have also been many instances of interest capitalized- XXXX of dollars at a time. I need someone who is knowledge about this subject to review my accounts with me. I am and have been paying XXXX of dollars a month in loan payments and my loans are not getting smaller! Can you help me figure this out? Standard repayment is supposed to be 10 years. Between the questionable payment allocation and the automatic deferments I can see this going on and on. I need a payment schedule that I can depend on and track.

Consumer Complaint: Following is a copy of my most recent letter to Nelnet : I am writing to you again to ask that you PLEASE SPECIFY WHAT YOU NEED FROM ME to show that I qualify for student loan discharge because I am on XXXX. I have sent you everything you asked for ( over and over and over ) and you still deny me saying you did n't get the documents. And it 's funny that as soon as I send the requested documentation ( sent them three ( 3 ) times ), you send me a letter saying you did n't them. I want you to BE SPECIFIC about what you need from me to qualify. If the document has a number or specific name or alpha-numeric number, please specify! I WANT THIS MESS CLEARED UP because my credit report is still suffering!!! We have been working on it since XXXX of XXXX ( over a year! ) and the letter states it could take up to 30 days. It has been over 325 days and that 's ridiculous. Also, when you recently ( XXXX/XXXX/XXXX ) bought or overtook my student loans, it shows on my credit report twice, ( which now totals the same amount three times! ) and INCREASED MY STUDENT LOAN DEBT BY {$6300.00} AS STATED ON THE ATTACHED SNAPSHOT OF MY CREDIT REPORT. Now it 's showing I owe over {$9000.00} in student loans and I actually only owe a little over {$2500.00}! Please correct my credit report duplications ( again ) which we have been working on for over a year! I only owe XXXX SET OF ( XXXX ) small LOANS, NOT XXXX! If you ca n't get them either dismissed ( as they should be ) or correctly listed on my credit report within the next 30 days, I plan to write your superiors and they will track who was supposed to handle this and handle it correctly. Consumer Complaint: I have disputed late payments multiple times with Nelnet as well as credit bureaus to no avail. I attended University XXXX XXXX and obtained loans through Nelnet. I have never been late with any of my payments. In fact, my payments have always been deferred or I 've paid based on my income. A few years ago my loans were transferred to another company and during this time is when I 'm told I defaulted on my loans. I was never aware that my loans had even transferred or I had late payments until last year when I requested my credit reports. I immediately contacted Nelnet and made them aware of this issue. Nothing changed and I still have 16 late payments on my credit report that are preventing me from obtaining housing for my autistic son and myself. It is very difficult living with family members and having a special needs child. I have NEVER been late on my loans.

Consumer Complaint: Due to a XXXX ( " XXXX '' ) in XXXX XXXX applied to have my Student Loan quashed, as I was unable to be fully employed and was on several medications. I was also granted a " XXXX '' registration decal. I notified Nelnet I was diagnosed with XXXX, and a high susceptibility to Stressors ; and a XXXX XXXX. As a result, Nelnet , Inc. " discharged '' my loan, in full. Months later, I began getting almost daily notices fron Nelnet, all unsigned, saying, I was put on stanby status with the loan, and some letters saying it was already re-instated? Some letters said my loan was put on a standby monitoring period, depending on me signing new paperwork, and if I did n't comply, the loan could be re-enacted. I have n't, nor do I plan on signing any " new '' documents which I feel will be used against me to re-enact the discharged loan. When I asked Nelnet for proof in writing on where they were getting their new procedures from, they ignored me. Whenever I requested a " point-of-contact, '' I wasalso, outright ignored.

Consumer Complaint: On XXXX XXXX XXXX I was fortunate enough to close on a loan to consolidate home mortgages and my student loan into XXXX payment at a reasonable interest rate. The problem is the school loan payoff went to the wrong address within the same organization. The check was cashed by the XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX but can not be transferred to the Nelnet address. I have been told that a check will be reissued and sent back to the sender in this case the law office that issued it in XXXX 6 weeks. In the mean time since this all started I still will be responsible for interest at {$10.00} a day. I put the loan into forbearance status to protect myself from monthly payments and late fees. They are claiming that it was not their mistake and my statements for over a year have had the address on it. I stated that I 've been trying for over years to figure out how to pay off these loans and I have an email from XXXX that I asked for a payoff amount and the payoff address was the XXXX address. When I was trying again this current year and pulled a payoff statement online there was no noted payoff address so I had this address in my file so gave it to the law office to send pay off into. I can not believe that NelnetXXXX does not have a means to transfer funds for a close out payment. I would like not to have to pay the interest and for this organization to work reasonably with me in completing this final transaction. On XXXX XXXX I received a letter from Nelnet stating the loan was paid but a balance remained not true I called same story as above.

Consumer Complaint: I have a civil rights legal dispute with my school. The Federal Office of Civil Rights at the Department of Education is evaluating if I was discriminated or not. I complained because I consider I was dismissed under pressure by the school. I refuse to sign any document that allow them to say I was accepting that dismissal decision. The student loan management company, NELNET, is asking me for initiate the payments. I said to NELNET that I can not star to pay my student loan because I am consider myself still as student and I am waiting the decision by the Civil Rights Office at the Department of Education. But the loan management company NELNET continue flooding my mail and email with letters and threats. That is why I am complaining at the CFPB against NELnet.

Consumer Complaint: First of all these student loans consist of Stafford and consolidation. My complaint is being made due to selling of my loan and late notification. In XXXX 2016 I made my due current payment to XXXX XXXX XXXX. Later I received a letter from Nelnet stating they purchased my loan. I was also on a contract due to hardship for a specific payment. I was told by XXXX they had my payment and would forward. Nelnet told me they still needed payment ( grace of 15 days ) I borrowed and paid XXXX payment. I was told they would honor the contract, however, I would have to re-qualify upon renewal. Today! I received from Nelnet a payment of {$430.00}, variable interest rate changes, and late fees. I am at retirement making {$14.00} an hour trying to keep my expenses within my budget. I have been paying this loan for over eight years and current with this payment plan based on my income.

Consumer Complaint: Hello. I have XXXX accounts with Nelnet, each reporting XXXX lates to the credit bureaus. I also have several accounts with XXXX. XXXX is reporting my past deferments correctly, with no lates. I have spoken to Nelnet, but they will not not remove the lates, though I thought my loans had been in deferment, and XXXX is again, reporting the past years correctly. Additionally, my father served 4 years in the XXXX, but I have been charged interest on my Nelnet loans. I would like the interest accrued adjusted and the lates removed. I am not happy with the service I have received with Nelnet, but have had no problems with XXXX. Thank you.

Consumer Complaint: Student Loans.gov - I have a total of XXXX loans ( lines ). In XX/XX/XXXX - XXXX loans were consolidated with outstanding principal balances. The loans that were consolidated are still showing principal account balances. Nelnet said the loans were transferred to them and they ca n't make any changes. XXXX says they did not do the consolidation. Studentloans.gov says they ca n't help they only house the loans in a database. I attended XXXX XXXX College for on semester XX/XX/XXXX and Nelnet and XXXX show I owe over XXXX dollars for one semester. XXXX College of XXXX worked with me and Identified I owe them XXXX loans and Nelnet and StudentLoans say I owe XXXX loans over XXXX dollars, and XXXX XXXX College is over XXXX dollars. The schools identified there is an error, and studentloans.gov identified there is an error but nobody is changing it. I need help. Who can I call to help me. They are charging me XXXX in school loans. Nelnet is demanding payment but they wo n't correct the errors. They do n't have a promissory note for XX/XX/XXXX or XX/XX/XXXX for the consolidations.

Consumer Complaint: Greetings, I am writing to complain about my student loans. I understand that the plan is to allow students to go to school to further their education, but the interest rates are extremely high. I will never be able to get out of debt and being that I went to college and was n't informed of the 5 years of deferment that has sky rocketed my loans. I feel that this has caused not only me, but others like me, to be in debt. I had to do a deferment for 3 months and based on the loan amount, 3 months add an additional almost XXXX to my loan. I do n't even make 2000 a month after taxes and there is no way that I will ever be able to pay this. I was not able to finish college because my mother had a XXXX during my college term and I was not able to finish because I had to drop out to help her. I am not making excuses but we are getting charged for stuff that we can not afford. We go to college with guarantees in our mental states that we will get a job, but rather then get a job we are getting high student loan rates. How is that if we have XXXX in the bank, we do not receive higher interest rates then 1-2 %, but if we owe student loan rates, they are tripling the debt? I am forced to live in a undersized apartment with my wife because we are both overwhelmed in student loan debt. We will never be able to afford a house or anything because the interest rate alone on the student loans has guaranteed us a life of poverty. I have even tried the student loan forgiveness plans and still I have come out on the bottom. My last check was {$850.00}. My part of my car note was {$310.00}, I filled up my truck for {$35.00}, I paid my {$100.00} towards my car insurance, and paid {$160.00} to cover my cell phone bill and I have less then {$200.00} left for groceries, gas, and products for my home for a two week period. I am asking for anyone that can to understand and to help with any type of assistance or forgiveness. We are out here trying to live right and to do whatever it takes to be great people to our society and we are loosing the fight against our country.
