Consumer Complaint: I am enrolled in the XXXX plan and have federal loans under Nelnet. I noticed my accrued interest has been climbing over the months I have been making payments despite doing so on time. Under XXXX, 100 % of unpaid interest should be paid by the government as long as I make payments. That is not the case as my accrued interest has been slightly increasing. It looks the majority of my unpaid interest is being paid by the government, but not all of it, based on how my accrued interest and total balance have increased. Nelnet says everything is being done correctly, but if that was the case my accrued interest would not be increasing. They have not been able to provide an explanation as to why I am being charged interest and offered no resolution.

Consumer Complaint: This is my third attempt to try and rectify what has been happening. Nelnet keeps reporting my loan payments as a credit limit decrease. I have a student loan which is an installment loan, I do not have a credit line with them. Last time, they offered me information on how credit scores are reported, which was no help because they are incorrectly reporting my payments as a decrease in a credit limit. Which is drastically affecting my credit score and making it drop XXXX points today. They are also reporting this decrease in credit limit on a loan that was taken out back in XXXX. So I am not sure what is going on but would appreciate assistance

Consumer Complaint: I am using this entity to demand payment for violations before I file a suit in federal court. Earlier this year I received an email stating that my Great lakes student loan was being transferred to Nelnet. I requested by email that Nelnet send me the alleged contract that I have saying that I will pay them. I do not believe I owe them {$22000.00}. I believe they have knowingly and willingly cause me harm by reporting to the Credit Reporting Agencies without my written consent. According to 15 USC 1681 I do have the right to privacy and no entity should be reporting anything on my behalf to a reporting agency without my written consent. Nor should they attempt to collect since there is no UCC 1 financing statement listing me as the debtor ( I have checked with the Illinois Secretary of State. I also believe that TILA have also been violated and that the securitization of the ORIGINAL contract has been laundered. Even though the email states they share the same " parent " company ', I never authorized this transfer, nor did I authorize anything to be reported on my behalf. Nelnet did send notices that I allegedly owe THEM money, nor did they or Great Lakes tell me that any money paid unto them would be put into a trust. Again, this is a violation of TILA, FDIC, and FCRA as I have no contract with them. Please pay me a total of XXXX which I'm entitled to twice the finance charge for these violations.

Consumer Complaint: Nelnet has indicated the SAVE repayment plan waives interest so as long as monthly federal student loan payments are made. However, Nelnet 's response did not indicate the interest accrued between XX/XX/2023 until the date my SAVE repayment plan application is processed will be removed/waived. This issue was not addressed in Nelnet 's response. Thus, the letter dated XXXX was informational about the SAVE repayment plan features and apologetic for frustrations regarding the SAVE repayment plan extended processing delay. However, the letter did not address the concern regarding the accrued interest I have no control over. It is assumed at this point I am personally responsible for the financial burden of thousands of U.S. dollars in added interest costs due to Nelnet 's processing delays. Again, like many, many other Nelnet clients I do not see how this fair or acceptable. If Nelnet 's final response either now or after the SAVE application is processed that I am responsible for these fees, it is with 100 % certainty it will be necessary for me to take swift and serious action.

Consumer Complaint: I have been attempting to contact NelNet for several months now. Regardless of when I call during the day, the hold time is over an hour. Once, I waited on hold for two hours before finally being able to speak with a representative. I explained to the agent that I was unable to afford the payment, and I had been paying on this loan since 2003. I have reached out multiple times via phone, website forms, and email, but I haven't received any response on how I can make this more manageable for myself and my family. I'm unable to speak with a live agent due to the long wait times, and I don't have the time to wait on the phone for XXXX hours or more. It's important to note that I didn't originally obtain a loan with NelNet ; I was initially with Great Lakes Borrower Services. This situation is negatively affecting my credit, and I need help. Best regards, XXXX XXXX

Consumer Complaint: To Whom It May Concern : I have recently obtained a copy of my credit report and observed that there are two accounts being reported on my consumer report which should not be present. I hereby request the immediate removal of the account in question from my consumer report. My account number as stated below is being reported as two separate accounts on the credit reporting agencies websites. Account : XXXX ( Nelnet Website ) The reporting of these accounts are a clear violation of 15 USC 1681a, The Fair Credit Reporting Act [ 15 USC 1681 ( a ) ( 2 ) ( B ) ] : ( 2 ) EXCLUSIONS.Except as provided in paragraph ( 3 ), the term consumer report does not include ( B ) any authorization or approval of a specific extension of credit directly or indirectly by the issuer of a credit card or similar device ; So let me explain. Under the Truth in Lending Act 15 USC 1602 ( l ), credit card is defined as the following : The term credit card means any card, plate, coupon book or other credit device existing for the purpose of obtaining money, property, labor, or services on credit. This makes my social security card, drivers license/ID, and license plate credit cards that are/were used for the extension of credit. I demand these accounts be deleted from my consumer report. Per the FCRA as a federally protected consumer, I am now opting out of any and all authorization I, the consumer, may have given you, written, unwritten, verbal and nonverbal per 15 USC 6802. 15 U.S. Code 6802 - Obligations with respect to disclosures of personal information ( b ) OPT OUT ( 1 ) IN GENERALA financial institution may not disclose nonpublic personal information to a nonaffiliated third party unless ( A ) such financial institution clearly and conspicuously discloses to the consumer, in writing or in electronic form or other form permitted by the regulations prescribed under section 6804 of this title, that such information may be disclosed to such third party ; ( B ) the consumer is given the opportunity, before the time that such information is initially disclosed, to direct that such information not be disclosed to such third party ; and ( C ) the consumer is given an explanation of how the consumer can exercise that nondisclosure option. There is a clear violation of the law. I have never given the opportunity to exercise my rights under the provisions of this law. Furthermore, 16 CFR 313.7 clearly states that you are required to provide clear and conspicuous opt out notice. 16 CFR 313.7 Form of opt out notice to consumers ; opt out methods. ( a ) ( 1 ) Form of opt out notice. You have no right to furnish my transactions and experiences when the law clearly states that this information is excluded from my consumer reports. The only way a creditor can treat a payment as late falls under 15 U.S. Code 1666b - Timing of payments ( a ) Time to Make Payments A creditor may not treat a payment on a credit card account under an open end consumer credit plan as late for any purpose, unless the creditor has adopted reasonable procedures designed to ensure that each periodic statement including the information required by section 1637 ( b ) of this title is mailed or delivered to the consumer not later than 21 days before the payment due date. Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: I am submitting a complaint against Nelnet for mishandling payments, false reporting, and misinformation given to me by representatives over the phone. Nelnet is claiming I am behind on my monthly payments when I have paid an additional XXXX XXXXXXXX on top of my XXXX and XXXX monthly payments. Nelnet is reporting that I am {$20.00} behind due to a missed payment in XX/XX/XXXX. I have documentation emailed to me on XX/XX/XXXX stating my first payment will be due on XX/XX/XXXX. A billing statement for XXXX was also emailed to me on XX/XX/XXXX stating my monthly payment for XXXX would be {$0.00}. I have attached both of these emails. Although payments restarted for most borrowers in XX/XX/XXXX, I was on an XXXX XXXX which initially pushed my first payment out to XX/XX/XXXX. However, I consolidated my loans on XX/XX/XXXX which defaulted my loans to the standard repayment plan. This switched my first payment date from XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX. As stated above, I have made additional payments in XXXX and XXXX on my own accord, not by necessity. On XX/XX/XXXX I made a {$25.00} payment, a {$50.00} payment on XX/XX/XXXX, and a {$94.00} payment on XX/XX/XXXX. The payments on XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX were meant to go towards the interest ; however, both had gone towards the principal. I had called in to dispute the {$94.00} charge as I had specifically called them previously and asked them to put it towards the interest. The representative stated something was wrong with my account that he had to fix and he redirected the {$94.00} payment to the interest. I told him that the {$50.00} payment could be kept with the principal as I was paying the full interest on XX/XX/XXXX. Once again, Id like to state that these payments were not due but rather one-time payments I had decided to make due to having extra money in those months. I signed up for auto debit on XX/XX/XXXX for the amount of {$160.00}. I called on XX/XX/XXXX as the account still stated I had a payment due. I spoke to a representative who said it could take up to XXXX days to process. She stated that there were no late payment statements on my account, so she had assumed that the payment was being processed. This amount was taken out on XX/XX/XXXX. For XXXX, I did not receive a notice that my monthly payment had changed or that I had any overdue payments. When I went on my online account on the evening of XX/XX/XXXX I saw that my monthly payment had changed from XXXX to XXXX. I also had a late payment status of {$21.00}. This was reported to the Federal Student Aid as well as this appears on my Federal Aid account. I called on XX/XX/XXXX to inquire about the late payment status and the additional charge. The first representative told me that the {$21.00} was from a missed payment from XXXX as I had only made a payment of {$140.00} ( combined amount of the {$50.00} and {$94.00} payments ). I informed the representative that I had no payment due in XXXX, and the XXXX charges on XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX were payments I had decided to make to try to pay off interest. The representative continued to tell me I was wrong and I ended the phone call to look back at my records to confirm I had documentation from Nelnet stating my first payment was due on XX/XX/XXXX. I spoke to a second representative and explained the situation to her. She was still stating I had missed a payment in XXXX. It wasnt until I told the representative that I had supporting documentation to go against what they were claiming that she changed her story. She then told me that I had made additional payments in XXXX which created a credit to my account for {$140.00}. She said the late payment was due to my XXXX auto debit not being processed due to the weekend. This made sense to me at the moment, and I asked to pay the {$21.00} so the late payment status would be taken off my account as I knew I had made all payments on time and did not want this to affect my credit score. After ending the call, I went to view my loan accounts on the website and saw the payment information for XX/XX/XXXX. The current amount for XXXX reads {$180.00}. When I went into my statements on Nelnet 's website, I saw I had XXXX that stated I owed XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX. This goes against what the representative said as this charge was on my account since XX/XX/XXXX. This is a very confusing and upsetting situation as Nelnet is stating my payments were due a month before the actual due date and has put false amounts owed on my account. I had made the initiative to make early/extra payments in XXXX and XXXX, yet I am being reported for not making payments. I fear this will affect my XXXX XXXX and will cause future issues despite making all payments.
