Issue: Problem with a credit reporting company's investigation into an existing problem
Subissue: Their investigation did not fix an error on your report
Consumer Complaint: My student loan was transferred from Great Lakes to the Ed/Nelnet Department of Education . My loans were only shown on my credit report with Great lakes as 2 accounts. Now Ed/Nelnet Dept of Education is showing every single disbursement I had for school totaling 17 new accounts on my credit report. I was in the middle of purchasing a home and now can no longer buy a house due to their incorrect reporting to all the credit reports. Great lakes told me my loans were consolidated and now here come Ed/Nelnet saying they arent consolidated. Why are they showing 17 new accounts on my credit report doesn't even seem realistic! They have ruined my dream of buying and home and have destroyed my life. I have to seek therapy due to their inaccurate and lieing to the credit bureaus. I am now suffering XXXX and XXXX XXXX due to Ed/Nelnet Dept of Education and now have to seek XXXX attention. They have DESTROYED MY LIFE! NOW I WILL JUST HAVE TO BUY A TENT AND LIVE WITH THE OTHER HOMELESS PEOPLE!

Consumer Complaint: XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. XXXX, MI XXXX XX/XX/XXXX Account Name : US DEPT. OF EDUCATIONXXXX Account Number : XXXX Balance : {$16000.00} RE : Requesting a Method of Verification Letter To whom it may concern : I recently received a response to a dispute that I made under FCRA 611 ( a ) regarding an erroneous item on my credit report involving a transaction with. I was saddened to learn that you somehow verified the disputed item, electing to leave it on my report. I am certain that the item I disputed is incorrect and should be removed, so I am hereby exercising my rights under FCRA 611 ( a ) ( 7 ) to request a complete description of all methods used to investigate my dispute. This debt has been transferred several times to the best of my knowledge. The accuracy concerns me due to no reflection of payments made by a third party on my behalf. I was enrolled into a loan forgiveness program that temporally had access to my federal student loan account and made several payments that I initiated. Subsequently, none of those payments are displayed in the payment history for this account. This is deemed fraudulent and unverifiable. This creditor has also failed to list the original creditor on my personal credit report. This is viewed as harassment due to their inability to report accurate information. Under this premise, I strongly demand deletion of this fraudulent account. I am very interested to learn how your investigators arrived at this erroneous conclusion. I would like to see a complete list of all documents and correspondence with. Please include all names and contact information of employees that you spoke to as part of this investigation. I am asking for this verification because my credit score is important to me, and I believe it is being unjustly degraded as a result of this unfortunate error. I would therefore request that you please do not send me a template letter in response to this request. I am in the process of planning a legal case, sol need specific answers to the specific questions asked of you in this letter. This letter is not written in order to request an investigation, that has already occurred, yet didn't solve this fraud issue. I expect to receive a response within 15 days of receipt of this letter, or I will expect to see the item in question permanently expunged from my record. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. I very much look forward to getting this resolved as soon as possible. Very Respectfully, XXXX XXXX XXXX XX/XX/XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, MI, XXXX

Consumer Complaint: I filed a complaint against Firstmark services regarding my private student loans earlier this year. In effect, they did absolutely nothing to help me with loan repayment. The only change has been an increase in my monthly payments. If this continues, I will have to start choosing between eating and making timely loan payments. Furthermore, since Firstmark took over my loans in 2022, my total balance has decreased by less than {$1000.00}. The majority of my monthly payments is applied to interest. This can be seen in my payment history attachment ( I redacted personal details ). Right now, I bring home less than {$45000.00} annually ; I live paycheck to paycheck. The company 's initial response to me was tone deaf, at best. Something must be done about the predatory nature of private student loans.

Consumer Complaint: My student loan was sold two different agencies XXXX and Nelnet during a dispute with Great Lakes. This by law is automatic default once the debt is sold. The creditor has defaulted on this loan. The company also plans to continue to collect on a debt they have defaulted on.

Consumer Complaint: I have been informed that my current loans will transfer from Great Lakes to Nelnet on XX/XX/XXXX. The problem is that they are claiming they are loan transfers which I do not have a problem with. After digging for more information online I have learned that in actuality they wont be transferring my loan. They will be closing my loan which is one of my oldest credit lines ( 12 years. ) Then Nelnet will be opening a new account in my name ( without my authorization ) with the same loan terms. How is this legal? Nelnet owns Great Lakes so why cant they just transfer the current loans as they are? I have spoken to customer service for Great Lakes on XXXX and they said there is nothing they can do. Again, this is not a loan transfer. This is the closing of one loan and opening another without my permission. This will drastically affect my credit history length and I am 100 % against allowing them to open a new loan in my name.

Consumer Complaint: I have an issue with my loan servicer. My loan servicer was Great Lakes Borrowing for over 10 years, they transferred my loans to Nelnet without my consent. As a result of this switchover my credit score has dropped over 40 points as they've reported my account closed, wiping out over 10 years of history on this account. This seems extremely unjust as I've worked hard over a decade to build up my score and have never once missed a payment. Please tell me how this is fair to me as a borrower. I've reached out to them and they've told me " that's how it is ''. I demand some kind of action. FURTHER, they've deleted ALL of my payment history and now neither Nelnet nor Great Lakes have any information on my payments, for over a decade! Please urgently advise.
