Issue: Applying for a mortgage or refinancing an existing mortgage
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: My husband is an XXXX Veteran and due to his XXXX we need to adapt our home to accommodate him. We applied for a refinance to make these home adaptions. During the application process, we were notified we have a XXXX XXXX for {$30000.00} on our title. We were advised to call NFCU on XX/XX/XXXX, I contacted Navy Federal Credit union and spoke with XXXX XXXX After introducing myself, I inquired about the {$30000.00} lien and asked for a Release lien letter and to our surprise he stated the entire {$30000.00} is due in order to release the lien. Then he stated the least amount acceptable is {$25000.00} because our home is worth much more now. We've never received anything from NFCU for this lien. It's never been reported on our credit report. We have excellent credit. I asked XXXX XXXX for his email but he says he didn't have one to give me. I also asked for his direct number and says just call the toll free line I used. I asked where are you located and he replied " Florida. '' We need to know what are our rights in XXXX? Please help. The title company did tell us the statue of limitations is expired.

Consumer Complaint: on XX/XX/2023 I requested to opt out of NFCU Credit reporting which is completely in the legal boundaries and holds legal validity per 12 CFR 1016. NFCU ignored my request completely and continued to report adverse actions on my consumer credit file although navy federal made it very clear to me that I did not owe navy federal anything by sending me a letter to my house ( attached ) stating they would not attempt to collect any debts from me. do to there negligence, my credit has had a tremendous negative affect which is taking a very bad toll on my life and has made it very difficult to take care of my family and my self acquired more credit for house hold purposes. I had very high expectation for navy federal and now I am very disappointed in their unprofessional and illegal business practices. I hope this was just a mistake non-intentional.

Issue: Trouble during payment process
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: I filled a complaint about Navy Federal Credit Union a few months ago with the CFPB regarding NFCU charging me late fees for payments made by mail. That were sent out before the due date. My last payment sent out to NFCU by my credit union was returned. In an email sent to me today. XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX explained my payment sent in XX/XX/XXXX was returned because the account number was invalid. Resending this payment will incurre a late fee. This makes no sense. A payment sent out XX/XX/XXXX by XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX was accepted by Navy Federal Credit Union with the same account number. Navy Federal Credit Union also still has not credited my account for 4 months of late fees. Which it said it would do in my last complaint.
