Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: I enrolled at XXXX University Online. I informed the Registrars office that I did not have a high school diploma. They stated that this was not an issue and they could use my " life experiences '' as basis for enrollment. I did not do an entrance exam and I was only given a login and password. I did not understand the curriculum and after 10 days of trying to do it figured out I was not going to be able to. I called the college and unenrolled and was told that my I would not owe anything do to the circumstances of me not having a high school diploma. I have sent Navient " My Loan Holder '' several documents stating the facts, all the documentation that is needed for loan discharge but I keep getting the run around and the generic Denial Letters. I believe that they are not investigating the situation. They keep saying I was enrolled in XXXX University XXXX, which I have sent proof from the National Student Loan Data Systems and the registars office at XXXX University XXXX. The last response I received from Navient is asking for verification from the college that I was not given an entrance exam. How do I complete that since the college is no longer in business. I am one of the many victims that XXXX University Frauded. I have attempted to rectify the issue with Navient with no success. I am in need of the CFPB help to make this matter right.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan

Consumer Complaint: I am a retired XXXX. I taught for 20 years at a XXXX XXXX XXXX on the rural island of XXXX. Several years ago I did all of the paper work to have my loan forgiven because of my work on XXXX. XXXX XXXX/Navient denied my request because they said I had consolidated my loan several years before which made me ineligible for the Forgiveness Program. This seems rather specious to me. I went back to get my XXXX after 17 years XXXX at XXXX XXXX XXXX and I continued XXXX on XXXX for 3 years after receiving my degree. I think Navient violated the intention of the Federal XXXX Forgivess program. Thank you for considering my situation.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: In XXXX of XXXX, I was in need of a co signer to obtain loans to pay for graduate school. My first loan was co-signed by my uncle. The second was co-signed by dad. In XXXX, the loan servicer at the time Sallie Mae, now Navient? Advised that within one year of my graduating from school that they would both automatically fall of the loans and that it would only be in my name and my responsibilities. Fast forward to XXXX. I have been out of school for 2 years, paying on the loans after a 3 month forbearance from XXXX of XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX. XX/XX/XXXX I call to see why the signers are still on the loan. Sallie Mae/Navient advised me that the rule is now, that I must make 2 years of on time payments AND then the co signer will come off the loan. At the time, I had been making payments, some of them interest only for short time, so my two years of payments did not QUALIFY for removal in XXXX. Fast forward to XX/XX/XXXX. Two more years of payments, I call and ask at that time to have them removed. I am then told that I must qualify for the loan amounts on my own and that I would need to apply to get the loans solely in my name. I apply and I am informed that at the XXXX month payment I was a day late so my two years of payments must start all over from the date of day late payment. 2 more years pass. Its now XXXX. I have made my two years of payments, I have applied to get the Co signers released, then I am told I must send letters written by the co-signers requesting release. Then from there, I would still need to have a high enough credit score and sufficient income to get them released, I would need to submit tax returns for two years along with my application request. At the time, I was self employed running a business that was making a profit but not enough obviously to have the signers released. The co signers both retired and XXXX, write letters and requested release, they too had to submit financial information. Again, they are denied stating that they cant be released because the amount left on the loan and our credits combined wont allow me to hold the loan individually without their fixed incomes being counted. So two more years, of me working on my credit score to apply again, to have them deny me again saying I missed a payment again at the XXXX month mark and would need to start over. This cycle of 2 years of payments, applying, letters written by co-signers has gone on until now. I am currently unemployed and I have been since XXXX of XXXX. I got a lawyer involved last year to see if they could assist me in getting my payments lowered, my loans forgiven or some time of relief. They were only able to get me some assistance for a few months. Now, I have missed ONE payment for this year and they are constantly calling my co signers and sending me emails to which I have advised them again, I am not working. I was told I had to pay XXXX to be put on a 3 month forbearance AFTER I told him, I had NO income and would be out of the country the next few years on a mission and my co signers were XXXX and on fixed incomes and they too can not afford to make my payments, the young man today, named XXXX XXXX said he would notate my account, as there was NOTHING he could do to stop the calls or emails unless I paid the XXXX and that would only stop it for 3 months? I have paid the amount of the original loans ( XXXX ) PLUS more than that in the last 15 years. And the balance has only gone down XXXX ( currently balance is XXXX ) after paying between 900-1200 a month for 10 years straight. Navient has caused more trouble than enough to my father and my uncle who cant get the services they need as this loan is still on their credit reports showing close to their original loan balances despite 15 years of payments. This is insane and worse, my uncle is no longer speaking to me or my dad as a result. Navient has destroyed my life, my relationship with uncle, my husband and any future relationships as well.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: In 2014 I was working with navient to pay off my student loans, I worked out a monthly payment plan to get brought current with my payments. I had paid on my student loans for the six months span they said I should. After the 6th month they told me that my loan would be transferred back to Sallie Mae where I could continue to make these payments.when attempting to get a hold of Sallie Mae they had no information on my loans they didn't know anything about my particular student loan debt. however upon getting back in touch with navient they told me that it was no longer in their system because they transferred it to Sallie Mae and I was brought current with my loan. I was also told that since my loans were current, that my tax return would no longer be withheld from me and I would even be able to reapply for a new student loan if I so chose. After a few days of trying to contact Sallie Mae I received another phone call from navient. they informed me that I was delinquent on a loan, which I explained I have been paying for 6 months and done everything appropriately. It turns out they conveniently left one of my loans out of the original debt that I had.so, I'm thinking I'm doing the right thing and paying off my student loans and getting ahead of it. Apparently they decided to leave one of the student loans out so they could continue to call and harass me about a separate student loan. Which should have all been bundled into the one payment I was making. Upon doing some further research, I found that four of my student loans were paid up and current, and the two that they conveniently forgot about we're still in delinquency. at this point, Sallie Mae still has no information about my student loan making it impossible to pay. A navient wants to start this payment plan all over again with separate loans that should have been included in the original. my taxes have been taken from me every year since then, and I have still not been able to resolve the issues of the misplaced loans while dealing with navient. when trying to do the right thing and pay off a debt, a company that large should not be doing everything they can to hold you back from paying off said debt. it's been racking up interest and late payments and everything else simply because they decided to separate my student loans and not tell me that I was only paying three-quarters of my loans. I have since gotten married and had children, now as a family we are losing all of our tax return at the beginning of the year. I have just recently heard about the lawsuit against navient, and realized a lot of the things that are in that lawsuit is what they also did to me.after doing what I could to get on track with the loan repayment and fix my credit and get my taxes back at the beginning of the year, they have continued to make that nearly impossible.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: I've been attempting to pay off my student loan with Navient for some time now, and after a fight to scrape together enough money to pay it off. So I contact Navient and arrange to make my full payoff amount and have my account closed. Since I do not trust them I mail out the check. I'm not giving these crooks access to my bank account. I'm told on the phone as long as they receive the check within 7 business days, I wouldn't be charged interest and the payoff amount will remain the same. I also told that they will close my account when the check is cashed. Navient gets the check 2 business days later and cashes it that same day. I log back into my account a week later to confirm that my account is paid off and closed. Not only is my account still active its accruing interest and I now owe {$3.00} on a loan that has been paid off in full. So I call them and go ballistic. I've read online how Navient does this to borrowers and makes it impossible for people to pay off their student loans. Navient said that since its under {$5.00} they will waive the fee. I need confirmation that this fee is waived and my account is closed as paid in full. I do not trust them to honor their word, they are a horrid company.

Consumer Complaint: I spoke with Navient on the phone about 2 years ago and they advised they were a third party collection agency. I advised them I did not have a debt with them.Asked them to verify this debt with name and signature and they never responded. Currently I have been under a XXXX XXXX plan. Recently on XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX my Federal Taxes and XXXX Taxes were taken from me and applied to a delinquent debt. The applied debt was taken by U.S. Department of Education C/O Navient, P. O. Box XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, Pa XXXX. Also XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, P.O Box XXXX, XXXX XXXX, Oklahoma XXXX. However, this Company Navient and XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, In XXXX, a third party collection agencies, never proved that I made a debt with them. I was never taken to court by either one of these two companies. I did, however, send a letter to both of them to verify this debt. I also advised them that I needed proof of debt with date and my signature on it. They could never verify that I ever made the debt with them. I believe this is an unjust claim for them to take my Federal Taxes and XXXX State Taxes due to the nature of the claim. To resolve the problem, I would appreciate and request a full refund. I look forward to your reply and a resolution to my problem, I will wait hopefully for sometime in XXXX for a resolution. I received a phone call yesterday leaving a message without whom to contact and advising me they will be coming after my pay check. I need assistance as soon as possible. I sent letters also to My Consumer Protection Agency and My Attorney State General. XXXX tax was {$920.00} XX/XX/XXXX and last years they also took XXXX $ XXXX included they took my Federal Tax {$2900.00} XX/XX/XXXX

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Keep getting calls about your loan

Consumer Complaint: I am a co-signer on the Private loan that my daughter has. On XX/XX/XXXX, I informed them that I am unable to pay on her account due to having to pay over XXXX a month myself in student loans and have asked them to grant her a forbearance for more than what they are saying. On XX/XX/XXXX received another call and spoke with the customer service rep. and asked her to read the notes on the account stating that I can not pay. She became rude and asked why and I unwilling to pay. I asked to speak to her supervisor. I told the supervisor my daughter can not pay and that I would like a 6 month forbearance on her account and to send me the paperwork to my email, she stated they can not do that and they can not mail the paperwork. I must first pay the {$50.00} to start the process and then I will get the policy in the mail. I stated I am not going to pay for something before reading the document as to what I was agreeing to. How can a company force you to pay for a forbearance first and not know what the terms are only going by what the representative is telling you. I refused to pay them anything without reading what I am agreeing to. No one should have to blindly agree and pay for anything. This is the first rule we are taught as consumers never give any company money without reading the fine print.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Don't agree with the fees charged

Consumer Complaint: XXXX years ago I missed a payment for my student loan. They didn't remind me or tell me that until I made up the arrears I would be charged a late fee. They never told me the whole amount owed so that I could catch up. I have been fighting with them, each time I paid what they said was the current amount owed they still said I had a late fee, even when I paid before it was due. I told them over and over again that I paid on time but they still said the payment was late. They never informed me that they were carrying the missed payment as an arrears and that all the payments after the missed payment would carry a late fee. Over and over again I asked why I was being charged a late fee ; they would never tell me. Finally, XXXX YEARS LATER one of the operators told me that I owed that payment from years before. Thus far I paid {$920.00} in late fees which did not go towards paying down the account. I believe they cheated me by way of omission. I could see if I hadn't asked over and over again about why I was being carried in arrears, but I asked them over and over again about straightening this account out but I believe they deliberately hid this from me. I took out the loan for {$7300.00} on XX/XX/99. I still owe {$6600.00}. I've paid over {$15000.00} which is more than twice what I borrowed.
