Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments
Consumer Complaint: I have contacted Navient numerous times to negotiate a lower payment. I just neeed a lower payment for a short amount of time and they did not care. I offered to pay {$600.00} of an originally $ XXXX/mo student loan payment and they would not budge. I called my other loan company ( XXXX ) and they lowered my payment by 75 % a month for a year to help me get back on my feet. Navient is nothing but a predatory loan company that does not care about their customers.

Consumer Complaint: I took out a loan to attend XXXX located in XXXX XXXX, Texas. I took courses in XXXX XXXX and XXXX to retrain for a career. Originally, the loan was not through Navient but was later reassigned to Navient. The interest rate was exorbitant and the principal seemed to never go down. My payments only seemed to pay the interest amount. As soon as we could be approved to get a personal loan to pay off Navient we did. I no longer have " Student Loan '' but I do have a loan that I am paying on. I feel that I deserve to be a participant in any lawsuit settlements against Navient.

I called them and they could not explain. I have 2 loans taken out on the same date and payments started on the same time together. they now say one loan completes on XXXX and the other XXXX. They used to be the same XXXX.

Consumer Complaint: I took a private loan from Navient ( Sallie Mae ) back in 2008. Initially I wanted to get the fixed rate but was advised by the finance advisor to go with the variable because the fixed rate was too high and I could change it in the future. I later found out when I started making payments that this is not true. Currently my monthly bill consist of paying 85 % interest. I am mostly paying the interest instead of the principal. Due to my current income, I am only able to afford the minimum payment. The interest they charge is ridiculously high and they claim there is nothing they can do about it. They also do not allow borrowers to switch from a variable to a fixed interest rate. The variable rate is never low and is constantly high. I contacted Navient and asked to be given the variable interest rates that I have been paying them, however they could not provide the information and told me that they will email me the information ( I have not received it ). Navient claims to have borrowers interest at heart, but this is not true. Not only was I misguided with information but they informed me that there is nothing they can do with my current payment set up.

Consumer Complaint: I have tried to Discuss with NAVIENT my financial situation to resolve my high payments ... they tell me they will only accept a specific payment ... I make between 1100-1300 month ... by the time I pay my living expenses and NAVIENT ... I am left with nothing. I only get paid 1 time a month so stretching my pay from payday to payday is hard. I offered them a {$200.00} dollar per month payment and they said it was not enough. They want to take out {$400.00} per month and by the time I pay my rent more than half my check is gone. My XXXX year old father is on my loans as a co-signer and lives on a fixed income, has major health problems and lives in a home with many problems ... if I can't pay he gets harassed by NAVIENT. I am NOT unwilling to pay but I can only make small payments at this time. Is there anything that can be done? XXXX XXXX

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was paid
Consumer Complaint: I first noticed payments to Navient on my student loans " disappearing '' in the summer of 2017. It had likely been happening for a long time. My fault for not paying enough attention I guess. SOME payments were showing up, and some weren't, even though I always paid in the exact same way ( online ). The money was pulled from my bank, but it was not showing up as paid on Navient 's end, and my loan amount owed was not decreasing. I called them, they confirmed that they had " not received a payment in three months '' despite the fact that my bank records proved otherwise. Later, they denied this conversation ever happened. I refused at that point to speak with them on the phone, but would use email only, where it can be documented, and they can't lie. They refused to discuss the loans or offer any explanation or solution, and still refuse to this day. I stopped sending them money, because I'm not paying money to have it vanish, obviously. They sent my loans to collections and confiscated my tax return ( thousands of dollars ) which I needed, because I'm poor. Additionally, Navient constantly offered only " forbearance '' when I had no money to pay, rather than more reasonable repayment options. Also, XXXX approved my loans for loan forgiveness, then suddenly, mysteriously " unapproved '' them two weeks later. I am 100 % certain Navient was behind that because they would not get as much money.

Consumer Complaint: I was a co- signer with my daughter on some federal XXXX XXXX ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ) which first started ( first disbursement ) on XX/XX/XXXX in the amount of {$6200.00}. Another disbursement from XXXX XXXX XXXX was on XX/XX/XXXX for another {$6200.00}. Then another disbursement of another XXXX XXXX XXXX was made on XX/XX/XXXX for {$6200.00}. Then another disbursement of XXXX XXXX XXXX was made on XX/XX/XXXX for the amount of {$4300.00}. Then ther where two more disbursement, one on XX/XX/XXXX for the amount of {$4000.00} and one on XX/XX/XXXX for the amount of {$4000.00}. These are all the disbursements Im aware of. The total amount of the disbursements is {$31000.00}. In XX/XX/XXXX I had filed for bankruptcy. From XX/XX/XXXX tp XX/XX/XXXXI had made payments to the U.S. Department of Education in the amount of {$14000.00}. The claim amount at the time of bankruptcy was XXXX. Why was it this amount approximately {$10000.00} dollars more than what was in the disbursements. Could all the extra amount be interest? The U.S. Department of Education does not recognize that I had made over {$14000.00} dollars in payment to them during bankruptcy. I had also made a few payments to Sallie Mae before my Bankruptcy. One in the amount of {$70.00} and one for {$700.00}. Please explain why these payments have not been recognized in my payoff amount. I have since been divorced and no longer have access to payments or records of payments that where made before the bankruptcy. I have been discharged from bankruptcy since XX/XX/XXXX. The reason for me not making any more payments to the Federal Government is that I feel that my account has not shown any payments made. I do not want to make payment that never shows any record of such payments, or if they do show record, it only goes, I guess to what Navient was doing, paying interest. I feel that I have overhypaid the U.S. Department of Education more than enough in interest. I would gladly pay off loan in payments, but I do need all parties to play fair and show documentation of all payments. I no longer have confidence in being treated fairly and justly. I know of Navient shady dealings of payments back to XXXX XXXX XXXX. They are under indictment in four states for there wrong doing. I feel there is probably a lot more people with school loans out there that are also being abused with there payments. I just want answers. Navient has turned my situation back over the the U.S. Department of Education. When I try to contact the Department, I never get to speak with a representative from that Department. I feel that the public has no chance against the U.S. Department of Education if there are no way or means of communication. I have sent to separate times to the U.S. Department of Education dispute letters on such subject. Once onXX/XX/XXXX and another dispute letter on XX/XX/XXXX. There has been no correspondence from the Department of Education acknowledging these letters. Thanks for your time. XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. XXXX, IL. XXXX
