Consumer Complaint: On 4XX/XX/XXXX My paycheck was garnished for student loan defaults. When I called the government agency involved I was told that my debt had been passed off to a debt collection agency and that the situation was completely out of their hands. I then reached out to the company to figure out what was going on. I asked them why I had not received any notifications about what had happened and that is where it turned bad. They said that they had been attempting to contact me at an address that I had never heard of and that they refused to do anything other than continue to garnished my wages. I told them I would like to set up a repayment plan and they refused.I need help

Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/XXXX Dear CFPB, Navient remains a thorn in my side and continues to lie, mislead and when I ask for assistance from their Office of Customer Advocate, what I get is a person named XXXX XXXX who I view and as Id imagine any judge in this country will see as an advocate for Navient ; not the customer. This is a company that is being sued by five States and the CFPB. As you will see in this complaint. XXXX changed a document on page 31 ( last page of attachment [ Navient XX/XX/XXXX COPY ] ) stating FALSE information in order to make me pay more interest and bluntly creating false information which has to be committal of XXXX on her part. My XXXX is attached as well, states that my XXXX was approved XXXX XXXX Approved XXXX COPY ). Furthermore, as you will see in her letter, she states, Unfortunately, we are unable to transfer your loan to another lender. How is this helping me as a Customer Service Advocate? On the contrary. Shes saying, Im stuck with Navient and therefore without can not have another Student Loan provider. Is this a JOKE? Further, furthermore, XXXX is not proving me with any loans that were already paid for before XXXX. Why would I pay for loans that dont even exist? This company has pushed me to defer and to claim forbearance for many many many years. Do you think me or any sane person would ask for XXXX XXXX instead of a plan that would allow them to avoid it? Are you serious? This is a joke. NO judge, I believe would put a person as such financial risk and subject them to the levels of stress, anxiety and corruption as Navient has done to MILLIONS of people. Persons they call customers. Here 's another lie, " Additionally, it is important to note that the majority of your deferment or forbearance requests were submitted electronically, without speaking to a representative. '' I called and spoke to your reps all the time. You just prefer to lie and say I didn't. Your track record of lies speak for itself. And they keep up with this XXXX, You first enrolled in XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX ; however, we first sent you notification of repayment options, including XXXX, on XX/XX/XXXX. I never received any information about the XXXX until I first read an article in Time magazine. I demand those year be retracted and an apology letter sent along with some major loan forgiveness asap. While I was studying for my second Masters and PhD, Navient was still trying to get me to take out loans. This was in XXXX, XXXX, XXXX and I think XXXX. The buck STOPS here Navient.

Consumer Complaint: My loan is with Navient. I stopped the auto pay, even called to confirm it was off of auto pay. They confirmed it was off of auto pay, they still pulled the payment. Once I noticed Navient pulled the unauthorized payment, they told me I did not take it off auto pay. When I talked to a supervisor gave him the date and time I called to take it off auto pay. they found the call log.. When I finally received my money back, I filled a complaint. Now my loan has {$6000.00} + in new interest when I called today Navient told me its back interest from 2013 I then told Navient to explain how all of a sudden I have interest form 2013, he told me that's just how it works. I asked to see in the contract where is the interest information. Now waiting to receive that information. I find it odd after I file a complaint my loan has $ 6,000+ in new fees on it. I have not missed a payment for over 24mo and even made payments when it was on in school deferment.

Consumer Complaint: My Navient private loans were refinanced in XX/XX/XXXX with XXXX. I no longer owe any money to Navient. However, Navient withdrew payments from my account for the month of XX/XX/XXXX and on XX/XX/XXXX of {$250.00} that I did not authorize because I no longer have loans with Navient. XXXX repayment plan is for {$240.00} per month which I agreed to. I contacted XXXX and was informed that since I did not terminate the automatic payments with Navient that they will continue to deduct funds from my account even if I did not have a loan to pay as they use a third party to collect payments. I was not informed this by Navient or XXXX until I contacted the company on XX/XX/XXXX.

Consumer Complaint: Navient, our loan servicer continues to misapply principle/interest. Some months they will apply XXXX dollars to principal and put everything towards interest. Our loans are a fixed payment each month and we have made every payment on time or ahead of schedule. The principal portion of the payment should be increasing each month as the balance decreases. In the last two years our principal payments have ranged from XXXX to {$240.00} and are vastly different from month to month. I have tried to get Navient to explain this and/or correct it, but have not been able to get a response from them. Our normal loan payment is {$400.00}. Since the loans originated in 2013, we've made payments of {$31000.00} of which {$10000.00} was applied to principal. Our original loan amounts were {$24000.00} and {$33000.00} for a total of {$57000.00}. Our current loan balances from Navient 's web site this morning are {$20000.00} and {$27000.00} for a total of {$47000.00}. I filed a complaint back in XXXX, but Navient refused to respond to your inquiry stating that my name was not on my wife 's loan. Navient has assured us that my name is in fact on the account and they should have no issue responding to this complaint.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Consumer Complaint: I currently am repaying my student loans via Naviant and have noticed several issues with the loan process and repayment. I graduated from XXXX XXXX University Online in XXXX of XXXX and began repayment with Sallie Mae originally. During some financial hardship and moving to another state, I contacted Sallie Mae and requested help on what I could do until I was able to pay again. Sallie Mae insisted a forbearance was my BEST option and I agreed to enter forbearance without the knowledge that I would still accrue interest while the forbearance was in place. In XXXX, while still in Forbearance, I received a letter from Naviant that they would be taking over my student loan. In XX/XX/XXXX, my husband and I entered into Chapter XXXX bankruptcy and the loan was placed back into forbearance for the duration of the bankruptcy. In XXXX, we completed the Chapter XXXX process and the loans came back into the mail and I began the repayment. On XX/XX/XXXX I received an additional bill in the mail from Navient stating that my forbearance had been approved, but payments would resume on XX/XX/XXXX. This caught my attention because # 1 I was already paying on my loan ( so I thought ) and 2 since the bankruptcy had ended, I had not requested any additional forbearance options. I then proceeded to log into my Navient account online to try and find answers. I was shocked to find the had broke my student loan into 5 separate loans all accruing an individual amount of interest. I was shocked to learn that forbearance was still adding interest payments as that was not disclosed. I was simply informed that the loan would be placed on hold for " X '' amount of time. At the time of learning all of this ; to me, new information ; I felt it was time to reach out for help after reading about the lawsuit in place against Naviant for similar practices. Currently, I am a stay at home mom while my husband is the only source of income for our family of XXXX. I plan to contact Naviant again on Monday XX/XX/XXXX to discuss putting some of these loans back on hold until I can pay them all.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/2012 I was encouraged to consolidate my student loans after finished grad school. I had approx $ 40k in XXXX loans and over $ 250k in XXXX loans. I was told consolidating would be cheaper and more affordable payments. I did this and was given a loan through Sallie Mae, which is now served my Navient. I was not thoroughly educated on the interest rate or long implications of consolidation. At the time, my XXXX loans had a fairly low interest rate and payment of around $ 300/month. Perfectly manageable. My consolidation was $ XXXX and interest was set at nearly 8 %. I was making $ XXXX out of grand school. Standard payments on this would have been more than my salary. With the income driven repayment plan I now pay around $ 420/mo. My total loan balance has increased to over $ 450k in the 7 years Ive had the loan. The company has refused efforts made toward lowering the interest rate and with this gigantic balance I cant even afford payments if I tried to refinance the total amount of the loan with another lender. My husband is XXXX XXXX military, so moving has also made it hard for me to advance my wages. They do not take this into account. Furthermore, I am a physical therapist so I work in public healthcare. I was not told that you can only work for nonprofit etc to qualify for certain forgiveness. This is completely unfair, as I am still providing the same needed services to my patients and live in a rural area. I have discussed bankruptcy with an attorney but was advised against it, as I was told they would not likely qualify. At this rate, I will owe nearly a million dollars by the time the loan is done. I will never make this kind of money. What loan companies are doing is fraudulent and needs to be stopped if theres any hope of Americas youth wanting to pursue graduate education

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments
Consumer Complaint: I have contacted Navient a plethora of times in an effort to lower my monthly payment. The most recent being XX/XX/XXXX. I have two loans now serviced by them. My first loan which was initially serviced by Sallie Mae is from XXXX University that was distributed on XX/XX/XXXX in the amount of {$31000.00}. It currently has a 11.5 % interest rate which they refuse to lower and a current balance of {$55000.00}. My new monthly payment is {$580.00}. Last year it was {$340.00}. My second loan which was initially serviced by XXXX XXXX is from XXXX University that was distributed on XX/XX/XXXX in the amount of {$24000.00}. It currently has a 8.75 % interest rate which they refuse to lower and a current balance of {$23000.00}. My new monthly payment is {$250.00}. Last year it was {$240.00}. I have called Navient to inquire about consolidating them since they both are serviced by the same lender in order to have one payment and one interest rate. I have literally begged them for a lower monthly payment and have been told there is nothing they can do. Most recently in XXXX the representative told me they can not lower my payment because my credit score is too high which proves to them that I do not have issues paying my bills. I was advised to not pay my loan amount which will put my account in default which would result in a lower credit score and ultimately prove I need assistance with a lower payment. This is the most insane feedback I have ever heard. As a individual who has taken pride in having a flawless credit score, I would have never imagined hearing this type of suggestion to show a borrow is in need of help! Navient has in no way, shape or form tried to offer lower monthly payments. They simply will offer paying off just the interest to lower your payment for a short period of time which in turn will ultimately increase your monthly payment once that time period ends. Additionally, they are refusing to release my co-signer! I personally have never missed a payment on my loans, but its unjust to be stuck with a loan servicer who could care less about their borrowers and their monthly payments amounts. Navient has about 12 million customers and services more than {$300.00} XXXX of government and private student loans. The greed they possess is disturbing and the borrowers need immediate assistance. We all want to pay our loans off, but we want to be able to live and enjoy life as well without the burden of a {$1000.00} monthly payment.
