Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: I was trying to consolidate my student loans into a single loan. However, due to an issue with the paperwork from my school to the XXXX XXXX XXXX, only my XXXX XXXX loan showed me as graduated while my other 8 XXXX unsubsidized loans took an additional 2-3 weeks to show me as graduated. In the interim, I had applied for consolidation through the department of education website. Shortly after, I received a notice from Navient stating that 8 of my loans could not be consolidated due to the " in school '' status. However, instead of stopping there, Navient " consolidated '' my XXXX XXXX loan by itself, which did not actually combine any loans together but did raise the interest rate on this loan by 0.025 %. When I called them, they said that the notice sent to me states that I could have chosen to not consolidate the single loan and that since I did not opt-out within a few days of receiving the notice, they would not undo my loan/return the interest rate to its original amount for when I eventually consolidate all of my loans together. However, their notice is not as clear about this as they claim. When they said I have the options to remove loans from my consolidation, I think it is natural to assume they meant I could remove the loans that were unable to be consolidated due to " in school '' status. Also, I think it is predatory to " consolidate '' a single loan ( which simply raises the interest rate ), and that I would have to opt-out rather than opt-in to this action that only worsens my interest rate without any benefit.

Issue: Getting a loan

Subissue: Fraudulent loan

Consumer Complaint: XXXX XXXX XXXX financial aid offices would routinely call students to inform them that their student loans had run out and pressure them to take on more debt. The bill for a two-year XXXX XXXX could run as much as {$90000.00} and leave students with little to show for it. I was told when joining the school that I had enough loans to sustain me but after I attended school under a year, I was told I needed to take out a private loan to stay in school. This was fraudulent on behalf of Navient and the school and after much research, I've discovered I am not the only one affected. At the time, the loan service was named Sallie Mae but Navient has brought their loans so I am paying them back. I am currently in the queue with the Borrowers Defense Program for my Department of Education Loans because many of XXXX XXXX XXXX campuses have been closed due to its fraudulent and misleading tactics. I feel Navient/Sallie Mae is equally responsible because they were fully aware of the school 's tactics and helped convinced me the loan was needed. I was only XXXX years old. Loan Amount I was told I needed : {$14000.00} Disbursement Date : XX/XX/XXXX Current Balance as of XX/XX/XXXX : {$12000.00}

Consumer Complaint: I thought ALL of my student loans had been consolidated but one had not. I contacted Navient and was informed that the loan was in default and had been sent to collections through XXXX XXXX XXXX. I called and tried for weeks to get someone that could help me take care of the debt. After NUMEROUS calls and leaving my phone #, I was finally able to speak to a representative. She informed me of my options, one being paying {$9100.00} to payoff the debt, and I told her I would get back to her within the next 2 weeks. I have tried now for over 3 weeks to contact XXXX, I have left a contact # everytime to receive a call back, and STILL have not received a response or call back. Not even a missed attempt!!! I would like to get this paid off at the {$9000.00} I was originally quoted but no seems to be able or willing to help. INFURIATING!!

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: I have been in repayment for my student loans with Navient ( formerly Sallie Mae ) since XXXX. I was told by a XXXX XXXX representative many years ago that after 25 years my loans would be forgiven. After I was told this, I wanted to verify it with Navient and the representative there lied and told me my loans would never be forgiven. Recently I received correspondence from Navient stating that after 25 years of " qualifying payments '' my loans would be forgiven. I sent an email requesting to know when my loans would be forgiven since I am nearing the 25 year mark and I was told it wouldn't be until the year XXXX. I am wondering why Navient did not disclose to me what the requirements are for " qualifying payments '' so that my loans could be forgiven after 25 years. My balance is now over {$300000.00} after years of interest growing at over 7 % and now they want to continue charging me interest until XXXX. Navient should have let me know what I need to do to meet the requirements of making " qualifying monthly payments '' so my loan could be forgiven after 25 years. I feel they have really taken advantage of me and are trying to make as much money off of charging me interest that they can.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Need information about your loan balance or loan terms

Consumer Complaint: I asked for in school deferment as I had two XXXX online courses - the one with XXXX was the only one I requested to be considered. Navient was slow in sending the forms after they agreed to send them in XXXX - the course ran from XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX. In XXXX they finally sent the forms which I promptly filled out and sent back to them. They have never responded about the disposition of my request, instead they continue to demand payment even as I have sent them a payment - {$50.00} XX/XX/XXXX - and am send another today, as I have agreed to do since XXXX. Now Navient is threatening Litigation with their legal network partner ( unnamed ). XXXX XXXX - VP of XXXX XXXX XXXX appears to not recognize that I have agreed to continue making payments. This has become so typical of Navient 's total disregard for my responses, requests, and remittances. Furthermore, over the years there has been a complete unwillingness to provide year to date total of payments made. Their unwillingness to be transparent makes coming to any settlement, which they offered at a 90 % payback on approx. {$3600.00} is not possible for me at this time and is greatly beyond what most creditors would conisder a " mutually discomfortable '' arrangement.
