Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments
Consumer Complaint: After graduating from XXXX School in 2005, I attended XXXX University. During my tenure as a student, I acquired significant private student loan debts ( mostly through Sallie Mae, now Navient ) to try to stay afloat. I was not able to secure much federal aid due to my parent still claiming me as a dependent. I did not end up attaining a degree from XXXX University nor have I since entered a career space based on my studies there ( XXXX XXXX ). I was never living some high life with a new car or a nice place to live. After dropping out of XXXX due to financial reasons -- looming student loan debts with no means to secure enough educational funding to continue -- I eventually entered the workforce via the best means available to me without a degree. Despite having steady, salaried work for years ( 30-45k per year ), I could not make a dent in my loan debts being barely able to afford the monthly minimums on top of basic needs ( food, shelter, transportation ). There were multiple times after I lost my most recent job ( XXXX ) and I returned to school, that forbearance was offered to me as an escape from default. Currently, I am an a better financial position in a secure, degreed career path. However, the private loans still loom in greater amounts than ever before. I'll be able to scrape and scrounge to try pay them back in the next 10-15 years while any chance of owning a home or moving forward in life before turning XXXX quickly vanishes.

Have been paying on loans for years with no end soon in site.

Consumer Complaint: Recently in various news outlets such as XXXX XXXX and many others it was brought to my attention that Navient my current provider was engaging in illegal or deceptive practices which involves pushing students deeper into debt by making them forbearance on there loans causing the interest to swell up and make it impossible for the borrow to pay back the loans. With this new information the company should be shut down forever by the government for there illegal and deceptive practices and the money I paid the service provider should be repaid to me in full plus the remainder balance of my student loans along with other should be wiped clean. This is illegal and they should not be allowed to do this or have an operating company.

Consumer Complaint: Navient reduced my automatic payment on there own without notifying me. When I called up they told me I did it myself which I didnt, then they said it was because I paid off one of my loans. The only loan that was paid off was done in 2015. They reduced my payment a few months ago. So it was not this either. They were unable to tell me why they reduced this payment. The end result they switched my payment back to what I had set up. If I did not catch this it would have prolonged my debt by years significantly increasing the amount of interest I would have to pay to Navient. When I asked to file a formal complaint I was told I could not do so. They annotated my account and that is it. I wanted to report this because I want to make sure Navient is not doing this to others.

Consumer Complaint: I have had trouble repaying my studebt loans for quite some time, mainly because I had attended college and graduate school with the promise to have a high paying career, and I have barely been making enough to cover standard Bill 's and living expenses. This has led to reaching out to Navient several times for assistance on my best options. Each time I have been directed to defer and I really didn't know better on how it would affect my total loan amount based on interest. Now my loan total has been increasing from this, and I am no closer to finding a job to reflect the education level I am in so much debt from. I feel like I have been given false promise on how I will be able to eventually make payments on my loans, mis directed on best ways to chip at my loan while trying to stay afloat with my bills, and even when i was making consistent payments before my last position laid off their sales team, I didn't see a decrease in my loan total, I just felt like I was only paying interest. I feel like I'm drowning with Navient loans and don't see a future where I make enough money to be free of them.

Consumer Complaint: I do not have dates currently but wanted a record of a formal complaint. I have since consolidated but loans but previously had them with navient. I was a student that they offered forbearance to and they did not speak about income driven payment until it was in the news. The cost of the forbearance was that it just about doubled my loans. The final number ended up being {$160000.00} and should have been around {$80000.00}. I would also send in payments weekly and noticed they were not allocating my payments correctly. They would claim it was a glitch in the system. Due to the way interest is added I will never know if all my payments were ever accurately fixed. It just felt wrong they were able to claim a glitch a move on. I am happy to provide any details in the event you need further information.

Consumer Complaint: As part of a new home loan a check was sent from a law firm to pay off my loan. The first check cleared the law firms bank on XX/XX/19. I called on three different occasions ( XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX and XXXX ) and was given three different answers. Finally I was told that the payment was sent to the wrong department and they were sending the money back to the law firm which could take up to 3 weeks. The law firm did receive the check back and sent the new check to them again. This new check cleared the law firms bank on XX/XX/19. I have once again called 3 times ( XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX ) and again have been given three different answers. I am now being told it will be posted to my account no later than XXXX and it will be back dated to XX/XX/XXXX. We will see what happens on XXXX
