Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments
Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/2010 I received a XXXX XXXX reward to pay for 60 % of my student loan debt in exchange for 2 years working w/ a XXXX XXXX XXXX. I completed my 2 years and applied for the 3rd year amendment which was an additional 25 % of the total debt for a total of 85 % to repay my student loans. XXXX rounded up to a starting balance of {$230000.00}. I received my reward money ( taxed income ) and paid SallieMae/Navient faithfully every month for 36 months to a tune of {$130000.00}. That should have erased my debt by that amount, but to date, the overall balance of both my federal and private loans is a little over {$220000.00} ... so after paying {$130000.00} in 3 years, my balance only reflects a {$9000.00} reduction in the overall debt. I've called to discuss this discrepancy and have not received a satisfactory answer. I feel that the government funds for which I was also taxed on, were misappropriated, thus leaving me w/ still higher payments. Please any help would be appreciated.

Consumer Complaint: I have been in a constant struggle with Navient and their practices in reporting loan information. I have asked for information to be corrected in credit report to no avail. They have ignored my request for correction with document from Navient indicating my loans were forbearance and still continue to report late. In addition all the response I receive from the credit agencies are changes to the terms. Which I am not aware of any changes on terms.

Consumer Complaint: Navient/sallie mae loan company made illegal charges and did not offer loan repayment plans to me when they bought my loan. They illegally deferred my payments and didn't offer any solutions other than forbearance. My loan has tripled in amount but then they paid me from a settlement in a lawsuit for calling my work and for charging illegal interest and charges. During that time ( XXXX ) I was placed on forbearance at least 7 different times. I was not given options. They harassed me at work until I was put on forbearance with my loans. One advisor also told me they would ruin my life. When they began getting sued they sold my loan to XXXX XXXX/XXXX. They began to garnish my wages. I asked for a hearing to request a stop to garnishment through financial hardship but I was denied. I called XXXX and they refused to give me any information on to why I was denied. They refused to disclose any of the process to denying me. They Garnished over 1100 dollars a month. To get off garnishment they said I must pay another $ XXXX month in addition top garnishment? Meanwhile they destroyed my credit by constantly adding remarks and adding delinquent penalties tip my credit score. I wad getting garnished while they destroyed my credit in addition to that. I can not afford the garnished amount. They gave me no other option. Im going to lose my house. I have a XXXX year old. My bills are over XXXX 4000 month. I was denied by XXXX even after i applied for financial hardship but I've been getting garnished for over 2 years.I can't afford it and i can't get out of garnishment. Plus my student loan amount has increased! Is that legal? Navient made illegal practices and my loan amount has more than doubled but now XXXX is garnishing my wages for it? My loans were federal Perkins loans and XXXX loans which are possible potential forgiveness loans for XXXX. Im a XXXX but I can not Get forgiven if my wages are being garnished and I am in default. This can't be legal

Consumer Complaint: Navient is incorrectly reporting deferment status for my student loan. I am in an 8-year XXXX program at an accredited university with automatic deferment ; however, Navient is reporting that my deferment is only until XX/XX/2019. Not sure why Navient chose not to correctly report my deferment period. I have applied for credit, and the creditor is reporting that my student loan with Navient is due at the end of XX/XX/2019 and not in deferment.

Consumer Complaint: I am the cosigner of a SallieMae for a friend of mine, in XXXX. In XXXX she became permanently and totally XXXX. She began making smaller payments than what they were demanding for repayment, explaining to them that she was on social security XXXX and couldn't afford the larger amount. They agreed to a lower amount but continued to accumulate interest in an amount that was larger than the payments she was making. ( the original loan was XXXX, and she now owes last i heard, XXXX ) I recently saw on their website under the " Common questions about cosigning a Sallie Mae student loan '' Q- What if the student dies or becomes disabled? A - If a student dies or becomes permanently and totally disable, we'll waive all remaining payments on their Sallie Mae student loan. Call us at XXXX. I encouraged her to push for them to waive all remaining payments, i helped her get the paperwork together she needed to send them. She just got a letter from them saying " based on the information you provided regarding your XXXX, we have reviewed your account and determined that you are eligible for release as the borrower of the private student loan referenced above. Release of your liability as borrower would result in the loan being transferred into the name of your cosigner. if you prefer to keep the loan in your name and remain responsible for repayment of the loan, please contact our office within 30 days from he date of this letter. if we do not hear from you within 30 days, we will complete the transfer to your cosigner. '' I feel like that letter is a bullying in their attempt to collect the payments and in violation of their own statement on their website. I don't know what to do about it, though. She is completely overwhelmed by it all and really believes anything they threaten her with. They tell her because it's in collections that's her only option.

Consumer Complaint: I have student loans with Navient beginning in 1990 while attending grad school. I have been in contact with Navient and have notice that my original balance of XXXX has sky rocketed to over XXXX XXXX dollars? They have added new balances, manipulated loan balances, and changed my interest rate several times without my permission. They will not allow me to start repayment options, only offering deferment, or forbearance. My original loan documents have fixed low interest rates that I agreed to and signed. Navient has added new balances, and consolidated my loans without my permission. I can not pay this new balance over XXXX XXXX dollars. My loans were originally with Sallie Mae. When Navient took over my loans they changed, and they started manipulating my interest rates, and payment options, and balances. They tell me that they do not have my original paperwork isuued from Salli Mae. I don't know what to do. I am now facing repayment, and my job as a XXXX will not allow me to pay this large debt off? They are crooks, and I need help!
