Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2020 Navient tells me that my loans are not eligible for being halted. They say that since the loan is owned by Navient that it is not eligible for the new federal suspension of payments. My loan was originally a Federal Loan when acquired for University of Wisconsin. Then along the way a few years after college was behind me, my loans were sold to Navient. Navient now tells me Im not eligible for the federal protection even though my loans are still technically a federal loans, only not eligible because Navient owns them as a third party. The worst part of this all is. Im a healthcare worker literally in an ED on the front lines at a hospital in XXXX. I havent gotten a break or weeks off during COVID. Ive been working with patients. Navient has found a loophole to not follow the executive order and they are exploiting me and others. I was even a class member of a class action lawsuit against Navient and the outcome was increased oversight. Now Im being told Im not eligible for federal protections. All roads lead to nowhere with Navient. Ive been laying this loan for 20 years and still owe {$13000.00}. Please Help

Consumer Complaint: I filed a complaint with the XXXX XXXX XXXX ( Complaint # XXXX XXXX in XX/XX/2020 and it is still not resolved - Navient continues to commit unfair lending and repayment practices. I have had nothing but a run-around from Navient. And now they are ruining my credit score. They were not sending timely monthly statements for me to pay on my student loan. Apparently, they assume that all people have computers and pay their bill online. My computer crashed and I was not able to purchase a new one, and requested that a paper bill be sent to me prior to the due date so I could pay it. That never happened and still hasn't. Instead of Navient sending a timely monthly statement, I would receive a past due statement every 2-3 months, which would include late fees assessed. Therefore, I filed the above complaint. How can I pay timely when I don't receive a timely statement? And especially when I specifically requested those timely statements to pay by? On XX/XX/2020, in response to my complaint, I received a letter from XXXX XXXX, Office of the Customer Advocate. She stated " your account has been set to receive correspondence via postal mail since XX/XX/2020. You may call me directly at XXXX XXXX with any questions you may have ''. She was incorrect in saying that because I was NOT receiving timely monthly statements to pay by. Therefore, I phoned her back at the phone # she provided 6 times, and left a voice mail for her to return my call each time. Nobody ever returned my call. On XXXX, I received another letter from XXXX XXXX, Office of the Consumer Advocate. She admitted that the previous information I received in writing from XXXX XXXX, Office of the Customer Advocate, was false by stating " I would like to provide an additional explanation ... we found that you were still enrolled in electronic billing and we confirmed you were not on coupon books. We have now updated your billing method to be sent as monthly statements via postal mail. '' ( I have copies of all of these correspondences and past due statements with late fees which I will submit at a later date ). However, even though Navient stated that, it is STILL not taking place. I am still receiving sporadic statements past the due date with late fees assessed. This practice must be unlawful ; it is certainly unfair. Currently, Navient is reporting to the Credit Bureaus that I am not paying my loan, even though they are not complying with our agreement, and what they promised to do. How can I pay them timely if they are not sending me timely statements? I can not. They have a scam going which ruins credit scores, and makes them extra money by assessment of late fees. In addition, before allowing me to go into forebearance / IDR agreement the last time I needed to, they forced me to agree to waive my Student Loan Forgiveness rights. They recorded this conversation. This does not seem to be a legal practice either.

Consumer Complaint: I have two issues with Navient : I called requesting that all monies paid for my loans that are subject to forbearance under the CARES act be returned. The representatives gave me a difficult time, although I see several Direct loans owed by the US Department of Education in my account statement. I, also wanted to exercise the forbearance opportunity under the CARES Act. I understood them to say that my loans were under them, and the forbearance that I had in the past was through Navient not by way of the CARES Act.

Consumer Complaint: There is no way that these companies investigated this student loan. The same information continues to report on my credit. I honestly don't believe I was late and I don't agree with the total balance that they are reporting on my credit. It continues to report several inaccuracies among the 3 credit reporting agencies from the last student loan company. How is that possible? For example, Each bureau reports that I was late on a different date Also, Hows it possible that youve reported me 90 days late with no late payments prior to that? Wasn't Navient sued by Cfpb before for not applying payments to consumers accounts correctly?

Consumer Complaint: I was attending XXXX for a few month then had to withdraw from the program. I went through a messy divorce and moved out of state. I have been stuck trying to get this loan discharged for years but no one will listen to me or review my case. I have sent in all required paperwork including an application for discharge to Navient but they denied it. The school did not report that I withdrew and so I was stuck with the whole loan. I didn't receive any of the money as it went directly to the school. The school should have returned the portion that was not used. I am not sure how else to proceed with this except to file a lawsuit against the school or Navient. I have sent in another application with a letter explaining the situation to Navient but I am almost certain I will have the same outcome. Again, I withdrew from the program and should not have to pay the entire student loan debt back as I didn't complete my degree. I am struggling to pay this back and have basically been getting a forbearance every year since.

Issue: Getting a loan
Subissue: Fraudulent loan
Consumer Complaint: I was promised a degree in XXXX XXXX, I was told not to worry about the student loans since I qualify for FREE. I needed help many times from the teachers, who at the beginning of the school year said they were available for questions outside of school hours. I called multiple teachers since I was struggling with the courses. Some of the teachers could be heard at a bar having drinks ( my husband can confirm this ) I did not pass those courses and when I complained to the administrator or aids they appeared to not care. I NEVER received my degree and NAVIENT ( used to be Sallie Mae ) is constantly harassing me for payments. I have been paying on this loan for over 20 years! I've told Navient what happened during the school year and the only thing they care about is getting their money. What XXXX did to me is FRAUD and since the school doesn't exist anymore I have no where else to turn. Please HELP!

Consumer Complaint: Ive been making payments faithfully for 3 years now to Navient. We have 2 loans through them and have been told multiple times that they can not combine accounts to make payment easier. At any rate, they have been sending bills and getting payment for the above duration. Again, 2 different bills. This month is the first time we have missed a payment on accident due to only paying one bill. I think we were 15-16 days late. I got no email, repeat bill via mail or call. I didnt even get a fee charged for being late. They called my mother 2-3 times a day looking for me over {$63.00}. Are you kidding me?!?! This is unacceptable.

Consumer Complaint: On Wednesday, XX/XX/2021 at XXXX XXXX Eastern Time, I received a phone call from Navient. Navient is a debt collection agency & was attempting to obtain information from myself on a defaulted student loan ; a loan that belongs to an EX-WIFE and I'm NOT a signatory to that loan. Furthermore the defaulted student loan is about 30 ( thirty ) years old. I am NOT responsible for my EX-WIFE 'S defaulted student loan that I am NOT a signatory thereof from 30 ( thirty ) years ago. WHY I was even contacted is a mystery to me as I'm an EX HUSBAND plus this is 30 ( thirty ) years old I do NOT have an account with this company, I do NOT have a student loan and I do NOT have any information on my EX_WIFE that I divorced 27 ( twenty seven ) years ago. Results : All I received was a ' ' we won't call you again ' " - a vague promise that I don't believe. WHY did Navient call me in the 1st place given taht I have zero association with this debt in the first place?? I have called this company TWICE, not 3 times like " they '' claim & sent 1 email to 1 ) resolve this & 2 ) to expunge my name, address phone number and any other information " they '' have from Their system plus a permeant do not call or contact enacted.
