Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I called Navient with questions about relief for a student loan. I did not speak to anyone at Navient but left a message with NAVIENT with questions regarding problems with my account. A short time later, I received a text with a referral to this organization. My original loan repayments were consolidated by either XXXX XXXX or XXXX XXXX organization. I believe I was on a graduated payment plan. I have made payments consistently on my loan since XXXX, when I began working at XXXX XXXX XXXX. I'm not sure of the circumstances but at some point I was referred to Navient in XXXX however, I know that I was not informed that I was no longer dealing with a Federal agency. I only learned with after being turned done for Loan Forgiveness in XXXX. Earlier this year, I contacted a legal referral group online and was given several options to pursue. When I explained the situation, I was encouraged to contact Navient for a copy of my original loan agreement. I did this but was only sent a summary of the loan. I have learned that the total amount to be paid is {$91000.00} for a loan with original principal of {$53000.00}. Moreover, as of XXXX, XXXX, my payments have jumped from {$290.00} to {$500.00}, with a payoff date of XXXX. Nor do I recall making these arrangements ; particularly as I am XXXX years old and look to retire in five years. I do know that in XXXX I was taking care of my mother and my brother, who was an adult with XXXX XXXX and other XXXX XXXX, but I don't believe I was ever informed of the changes moving to Navient would make -- or that there were other options. I wouldn't have known about Navient had I not been referred to this organization. Contacted the XXXX website and received several offices to contact. HOwever, when I explained the situation, I was encouraged to contact XXXX and list my legal issue as Consumer Law or Education Law. However, I haven't had success finding a lawyer in my area. At this point, I am in desperate need of assistance and hope that I may receive information from this office on how t o move forward. .
