Consumer Complaint: M & T bought people 's bank, in beginning didn't have problem for first 2 days, then couldn't access my account to see balance, couldn't call XXXX number kept getting a automated male voice saying due high call volume please try back and would hang up so couldn't hear balance. Used as debit for immediate fund removal since was always told by peoples to do that. They held debit purchases for several days and somehow my account went negative {$78.00} when card should of been declined. Finally was able to get threw there was a rude customer service rep only thing she said was need money to spend money which I get and when asked why card wasn't declined her answer was they don't do real time deductions. Basically prevent us from accessing our online feature and from us calling to hear balance then hit us with overdraft fees when they held payment purchases. I've never had a problem with peoples bank. Over past 2 days they've sent the over draft post cards not sealed so every person who came contact with the overdraft post card was able to see my balance and part of my account number, this is horrible customer service and privacy violation, I want the overdraft fees waived since they wouldn't let us in accounts and wasn't able to check my balance on phone either and also with however any people who seen part my account number I'm not comfortable and want account closed. Consumer Complaint: Applied for a pre-approval on home mortgage. Submitted the necessary documents to the mortgage consultant of M & T Bank in XXXX DE approximately XX/XX/XXXX. I received numerous phone calls which I deemed condescending and derogatory. Follow ups and clarifications were addressed however I never received any correspondence stating my pre approval was awarded or denied. Consumer Complaint: during a merger process between People 's United bank and M & T this month, the bill pay section of my checking account ( People 's United ) was left out of the transfer process. as a result the automatic payment ( attached to the checking account ) that was set up, were not made. I reached out to M & T XXXX after receiving a call from a payee about missing payment, spoke to supervisor XXXX to see about possibly restoring bill pay to account or relief with possible late fee I may have incurred. I was met with platitude and no real solution to the problem, they have created. prior to merger, there were no communication about possible glitch with bill pay or about feature not transferring with checking account. as a customer I am left scrambling while the bank hold no responsibility. so far this is the problem that I have encountered with this merger. I wanted it noted that I currently live in a state ( GA ) that does not have an M & T branch.

Consumer Complaint: It is ridiculous how little the government does to actually help taxpayers. One of the worst offenses to consumers is mergers and acquisitions. They so rarely help anyone but senior executives and shareholders. It is especially true that in bank mergers we never benefit. Are we getting some higher savings rate or better lending rates because banks have merged? No we lose local jobs and we get worse customer service. The perfect example M & Ts acquisition of peoples United. A disaster for customer service with no benefit to account holders. I know its too late to unwind it although you should but it should at least service a lesson that they should never be allowed
