Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Fee problem

Consumer Complaint: I opened a business checking account with Chase back in XXXX. They told me the account isn't active and needed me to call them. I didn't call them and thought the account was not open, until I found out they charged me {$15.00} fee and resulted in overdraft. So I paid the fee to them. But later I found out they used this overdraft to decline my credit card application.

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Deposits and withdrawals

Consumer Complaint: Chase bank froze and then closed my checking account. I was told that they flagged it for fraud based on checks that were deposited. The funds from the issuing bank were cleared/transferred into my Chase account. However, Chase refuses to turn over the money I had in my account. They say that I have to hire a lawyer. I don't understand why I can not receive my money when all deposits and transfers have cleared.

Issue: Closing an account

Subissue: Funds not received from closed account

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I deposited a check of {$150000.00} to my Chase bank account. I got a notice of delayed availability that the funds would be available on XX/XX/XXXX when I checked back on XX/XX/XXXX, the funds were available, but a week later, on XX/XX/XXXX, when I tried to excess my bank account, I couldn't. I called Chase and asked them what was going on, and they answered that because they could not verify the check, they closed the account and suspended the {$150000.00} with not notifying me. So I made a conference call with Chase and the maker of the check so they could verify it with him, but Chase didn't accept it. They told me they needed to call the check maker on a verified number, so we gave them the check maker 's number, but Chase told us that his number was not verified. So we asked Chase how we verify his number, but they didn't give us a way to verify it. So I offered Chase 2 other options to verify the check XXXX ) I can come down to the branch with the maker of the check to verify the check or XXXX ) I provide them with the number of the bank of the check maker so they can call his bank to verify the check but that didn't accept this that just repeated, again and again, that need to call the maker on a verified number and that don't have a verified number. The next day I went into the Chase branch and explained my problem they understood and tried to help me but they could not help me because they needed to call the same Chase back office I called the day before and got the same answer. So I contacted the maker of the check who contacted his bank and asked them to contact Chase but as they said " Chase was giving us the run-around '' so for now the chase has the money locked with no path for me to retrieve the funds. Which is high robbery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Banking errors

Consumer Complaint: Hello, On the XXXX of XXXX my bank, Chase Bank, ( located XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, XXXX XXXX ) allowed transactions that were fraudulent. Not only did they allow a greater amount than my max daily allowance at a ATM ( located on XXXX and XXXX ), they allowed my account to be wiped out, leaving only {$13.00}. While these events were happening I was in Florida on vacation, I even let Chase know this while in Florida. I came home from vacation on the XXXX and noticed the errors in my account, at which point I filed a fraud claim with Chase. Chase has denied my claim and stated that I could rebuke and fight the claim, which I provided information and flight itinerary, boarding passes, and date stamped pictures proving I was in Florida and not Colorado at the time of these charges and ATM withdrawals. At this time it has been almost a month of having no funds in my account and no word from Chase on replenishing my funds, when it is completely obvious that these were fraudulent, not to mention Chase should have never allowed funds to come out that were more then my daily limit. These should all be huge red-flags to Chase but they weren't and now I have had no funds and completely broke. I would greatly appreciate it if you could look into this because I have no other ventures since Chase will not respond or communicate with me. Sincerely, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Deposits and withdrawals

Consumer Complaint: My card was stolen, and I believe this person who stole it saw me put my card passcode into a machine. Once he or she stole my card and information they processed a fraudulent check, made multiple transactions and withdraws with my card. They went to different Chase banks and withdrew {$23000.00}. Chase refused to be liable and ignored my complaints. I was out of town and had no idea this was happening. Chase called me after the first transaction and I reported that my card was lost/stolen and they hesitated to lock and freeze my account, with it being my understanding that it was locked. I submitted multiple police reports and claims that these withdraws were not me nor authorized. This person deposited a fraudulent check not signed by me and I have never seen before and started making withdraws. I had no idea this was happening until I logged into my account. Chase is simply liable because these withdraws were made at a Chase Branch and they did not ask for any proof of it being me. They didnt have my ID therefore they did not verify if it was me. Chase just gave my money away and is blaming me for not having a more secure pin. When In retrospect if you go to the bank annd is withdrawing thousands of dollars which is clearly abnormal for me being that I have no history of Doing that on my account.they should have seen and verified that it was not me. They should not have been able to take my Money out and deposit a check. Chase did not verity it was me at anytime. Even after I submitted a request to lock my card. After multiple complaints they did not update me in any way of the claims being investigated or how, and they also kept hanging up in my face, and lied to me about temporary credit until the investigation was over.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement

Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement

Consumer Complaint: When traveling to XXXX, XXXX in XX/XX/2023, my Chase credit card was incorrectly charged by a scammer on the beach. The merchant incorrectly charged the Chase credit card ( likely adding an extra XXXX, and more ), making the charge XXXX XXXX PESOS ( inaccurately charging my card {$500.00} USD ). The service was for XXXX beach chair day rentals and XXXX margaritas, which was supposed to be charged at the XXXX dollar equivalent of {$28.00} USD. The same week, I immediately saw the incorrect charge and reported it to Chase. Chase provided an immediate credit to my account honoring the disputed charge difference I had reported without an issue. Months later in XX/XX/2023, I received a letter in the mail from Chase that the dispute had been reversed in favor of merchant, with my case closed, and full dispute amount credit charged back to me again. Chase did this action without providing me with sufficient documentation or evidence from the merchant, or even an attempt to request more information from me before closing my case. Again, this was done 4 months after originally honoring the disputed charge. I have called and spoken at least XXXX different times with the Chase dispute team, upon immediately receiving the letter, in a means to correct this before filing a complaint, and was told by Chase the case has been closed and provided no additional assistance in this matter. There was no thorough receipt audit or investigation conducted by Chase, as there was XXXX no signature collected at time of purchase and XXXX no items/services listed or itemized on receipt. This merchant did not provide us with a receipt. Again, I did not consent to this charge of over {$500.00} USD. I am submitting a formal complaint, as Chase offers fraudulent transaction protection as a cardholder, however has not honored this, as they went back and reversed the decision to protect me against this un-consented credit card overcharge, without evidence to do so. With Chase 's current handling of this issue, any merchant could add any number of 'zeros ' to a credit card charge, without a signature or receipt provided to customer, and consumers would not be protected. Any thorough investigation would reveal that $ XXXX USD is a clear mistake and scam charge for a beach merchant to charge in XXXX XXXX XXXX for this beach chair day rental service and XXXX XXXX. This can easily be compared to other customary charges done in that region for similar services/purchases [ and other charges on our card during this time ]. Additionally I have included screenshots of reviews at " XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX '' ( XXXX ) from the same time of another impacted customers written review unfortunately at the same location of my scammed/incorrect charge. As well as a review of what the cost should have been, which mirrors what we were originally quoted for, and aligns more with costs in the region of XXXX, XXXX for regular and customary charges- for example, XXXX XXXX pesos for a rental, not $ XXXX USD.
