Consumer Complaint: I was scammed for a puppy on XX/XX/XXXX. I pod a deposit for the puppy and then the seller wanted the rest of the money and thats when I knew something was up. They seemed legit until that point. I paid {$350.00} through XXXX with 5/3. 5/3 stated that since I authorized the transaction that I will not be able to receive my money back, which I understand but figured there should still be more that can be done. I have photos for proof of the conversation. Just really want some money back if possible.

Consumer Complaint: I have a HELO with Fifth Third Bank. It is setup, as mandated by the Bank, for automatic interest payments to come out of our Fifth Third checking account every month. The bank required us to open the checking account for the HELO loan - it was mandatory for the HELO terms. The bank also said that ONLY interest will be taken out each month from the checking account, and that we would need to make a separate principle payment IN ADDITION to the auto withdraw. Each month, I make one or two PRINCIPLE ONLY payments. I clearly note that it is principle only and I use Fifth Third 's online payment, by selecting OTHER PAYMENT option rather than the Regular Monthly Payment ( which is interest only ) and in caps in the memo I clearly specify that it is Principle Only. The Regular Monthly Payment Option is only for interest, and is not selectable since I have the mandatory auto pay from the checking for that interest payment. I called the bank and they refused to reapply my PRINCIPLE ONLY payment to the principle. They said I would need to call back in 10 business days and make another request. This is a common practice of Fifth Third bank and has been going on for over three years on both my mortgage and on my recent HELO. This banking practice makes it very difficult to paydown the balance and this practice should be illegal. After a second call and a conversation with the Supervisor, I was finally able to have them curtail the payment to a PRINCIPLE ONLY payment. However, the XXXX said that they DO NOT take early payments. Fifth Third does not allow you to pay your mortgage payment ahead of time. So if I wanted to pay XXXX and XXXX mortgage payments in XXXX, I can't do that. If I want to pay my principle on my HELO down before they deduct the interest, I can't do that. THIS BANK MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO PAY PRINICPLE DOWN EARLY on HELOs and to make advanced mortgage payments.

Issue: Closing an account
Subissue: Can't close your account
Consumer Complaint: Fifth Third Bank 's procedures to close my account are unreasonably difficult and deceptive for consumers. I made a personal visit to a branch to close my checking and savings accounts back in XXXX. Though my checking account was closed, I logged in a couple of weeks later to see that my savings account was still open, with a balance of {$0.00} cents due to interest. I made 3 calls to Fifth Third telling them I don't want the XXXX cents, and they should close my account before they charge me any fees for a low balance. They told me I have to either visit a branch ( during a pandemic ) or complete a form. Despite 3 calls and several weeks of waiting, I still don't have the form to mail in after 2.5 weeks. I believe they intentionally make it difficult to close old and unwanted accounts so that they can charge customers excessive fees.

Consumer Complaint: Fifth Third Bank is calling our number sometimes 3 times per day for someone who does not live here. They've been told the person doesn't live here and to stop calling, but they relentlessly call using various robo-dialers and sometimes fake numbers because now we've blocked them. This is the phone of an XXXX year old woman, not the XXXX year old they are looking for. They're harassing an elderly woman.

Consumer Complaint: I had my card data stolen and reported the fraud to 53 bank. Initially the said the charges were valid then I contested and finally they said they were fraud and I would receive credit. During the time of the fraud with the high balance showing ( XXXX ) I overpaid what I actually owed. I have contacted the bank numerous times to have this corrected and they keep telling me they will resolve in 3-5 days but the credit is on my cancelled card. I am trying to get the credit transferred to my new card balance but there are no results. This has gone on for about 6 months. I don't know what else to do but keep calling and getting empty promises.

Consumer Complaint: I have a issue with Fifth Third Bank. I was in the process of refinancing my loan when the corona virus hit and shut everything down. I had a hard time communicating with them due to the stay at home order. I talked to multiple people and was given different instruction. I was told that I will have my payment deferred for a few months while everything gets settled. That never happened and they kept reporting me late. I understand these were tough times and that bank employees were having a hard time navigating through this. But I was misled and my credit score suffered. Now I am told I cant refinance because of it. I have had multiple loans for over 40 years and never missed a payment. Fifth Third need to fix this as I was a loyal customer for over a quarter century.

Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Card opened as result of identity theft or fraud
Consumer Complaint: OnXX/XX/2020, I received a bill from Fifth Third Bank in the amount of {$8400.00}. Since I have never been a customer with Fifth Third Bank, much less applied for a line of credit with them, I immediately called their Resolutions Department to indicate that this was a case of identity theft. Judging from the bill, the card was maxed out in two days, with charges originating in Indiana. I live in Michigan. I explained to the agent in the Resolutions Dept that I had lately been the victim of several cases of identity theft with other banks and companies which occurred in the week directly after XXXX and the first week of XXXX. ( I placed a credit freeze with the three credit agencies around this time. ) The agent explained that the bank would be sending an affidavit for me to sign and notarize swearing that I was not responsible for the charges. I faxed Fifth Third Bank this affidavit as soon as I received it, on XX/XX/2020. After repeated inquiries on my part, I finally learned on XX/XX/2020 that Fifth Third Bank rejected my appeal. Their reason for doing so, according to the agent to whom I spoke, was that I did not include a police report. This took me by surprise since a police report had never been requested. In my naivete I had thought that this was a fairly self-evident case of identity theft. I have never maxed out a credit card in my life ; the fraud occurred in XXXX, IN, whereas I live in Michigan ; the same location was used in a XXXX XXXX obtained fraudulently in my name that XXXX XXXX reviewed and determined was a case of identity theft ; I did indeed file a police report on XX/XX/2020 ; and the bank had my sworn statement that I did not make the purchases, much less apply for the credit, it says I did. Fifth Third Bank has been apprised of all these particulars but nevertheless seems determined to extort more than {$8000.00} from me for no other reason than the fact that a thief has duped them into believing a lie. Given the failure of Fifth Third Bank to act in a timely manner in responding to my appeal and given its shifting account of what I must bring forward to prove my innocence, I have no other recourse but to file this complaint.
