Issue: Problem with fraud alerts or security freezes
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: I am filing this complaint against Equifax to provide additional information and to clarify what my other pending complaint seeks. I have one complaint with the CFPB pending against Equifax. The complaint number is XXXX. This complaint was submitted on XX/XX/2023. I have attached the pending complaint, along with the information I submitted with it. I am unable to edit that complaint. My pending complaint is very simple. It states : I file this complaint to request that an extended fraud alert be placed on my credit reports for seven years. I have attached a report that I filed with the Federal Trade Commission, along with a report that I filed with the FBI Internet Crimes Complaint Center ( IC3 ). I am the victim of identity theft. All I sought from Equifax was an extended seven-year fraud alert. I recognize that there is currently an initial fraud alert and a security freeze on my Equifax credit report. I wish for these security precautions to remain on my report. I have received correspondence from Equifax indicating that it was unable to verify my identity. To rectify this perceived deficiency in my pending complaint, I have attached my drivers license, my birth certificate, my social security card, and a recent phone bill. Despite its claim that it was unable to verify my identity, Equifax is currently disputing many valid open and closed accounts from XXXX XXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX on my Equifax credit report. Documentation is attached. There is nothing fraudulent on my Equifax credit report at this time. Nothing contained in the documentation that I submitted with my pending XX/XX/2023, complaint indicates there is anything fraudulent on my Equifax credit report. Equifax has grossly misinterpreted the documentation I submitted. No fraudulent inquiry or account appears on my Equifax credit report. I dispute NOTHING on my Equifax credit report. XXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX have done nothing wrong. In fact, XXXX XXXXXXXX and XXXX XXXX alerted me to the fact that fraudulent hard inquires were placed on my XXXX and XXXX credit reports on XX/XX/2023, as a result of a fraudulent credit card application to XXXX XXXX XXXX The fraudulent application was denied by XXXX XXXX XXXX No account was opened. The fraudulent inquiries on my XXXX and XXXX credit reports have been removed. Again, there is currently NOTHING fraudulent on my Equifax credit report. All I wanted was for Equifax to place an extended seven year fraud alert on my Equifax credit file as a precaution. There is NOTHING to dispute on my Equifax credit report. I tried to keep things simple in my XX/XX/2023, complaint, but apparently that was a mistake. Please cease and desist all ongoing disputes involving XXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX! The accounts in dispute ARE NOT to be removed from my Equifax credit report. I NEVER authorized Equifax to dispute anything on my Equifax credit report. Stop this forthwith!

Consumer Complaint: In accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The List of accounts below has violated my federally protected consumer rights to privacy and confidentiality under 15 USC 1681. I told XXXX, XXXX, and Equifax to reinvestigate these accounts : XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. However, they stated everything was complete and accurate. But how is that possible if the open date, date of last activity and much more is incorrect. Consumer Complaint: I am formally filing a complaint against the a few credit reporting agencies ( XXXX, XXXX, XXXX and Equifax ) as I have submitted many notices to them requesting vital information in which they can only furnish. To date, I have not received a response or update to my requests ; therefore, I am demanding that the inaccuracies are updated on my Con sumer Report. I recently reviewed a copy of my Consumer Report and noticed that there are a few accounts that have not been reporting accurately. These errors are causing inquiry to myself and family as we cant obtain the necessary goods and services for my household. According to the information currently reporting on my consumer reports, there are several accounts that have been noted as Charge Offs. I am aware that all businesses lawfully acting in commerce are to utilize IRS Form 1099C Cancellation of Debt for any remaining debt obligations not recovered. This IRS form is intended to be reported as income and not debt. This inaccurate information being furnished on my consumer report is clearly going against the rules of construction in the area of exclusions of reports containing information solely as to the transactions or experiences between the consumer and the person making the report. It also is inaccurate according to IRS Publication 4681, as cancelled debts are defined as Income and not Debt.

Consumer Complaint: I submitted letters to Equifax and XXXX regarding several outdated accounts XX/XX/2023 and XX/XX/2023. There are several accounts that are beyond the statue of limitation and still reporting that should be removed. The letters were sent certified mail. This is harming my credit and causing me to pay more in interest. The credit bureaus have removed the accounts and then added them further damaging my credit score. This needs to be corrected immediately.
