Issue: Trouble using your card
Subissue: Credit card company won't increase or decrease your credit limit
Consumer Complaint: While I deeply appreciate the services and credit extended to me by financial institutions, I find myself perplexed at the inability to secure credit limit increases on my accounts. Notably, all of my accounts are in good standing, with a consistent history of on-time payments. Additionally, I have recently experienced a significant increase in my monthly income, which bolsters my financial stability and capability to manage credit responsibly. Given these positive factors, I am keen to understand the criteria or concerns preventing the approval of credit increases. I believe that a reconsideration based on my improved financial position and impeccable credit management would be both fair and beneficial for both parties.

Consumer Complaint: I am writing to file a formal complaint against Discover regarding their mishandling of my identity theft claim. Despite providing evidence of fraudulent charges on my account and filing multiple disputes with Discover 's fraud investigation department, my claim was unjustly denied. This denial has had severe repercussions on my credit standing and financial well-being. The crux of the issue lies in Discover 's disregard for the fact that my phone, through which the fraudulent charges were made, was stolen. To rectify the situation, I took immediate action by changing my phone number, email address, and other contact information associated with my Discover card. However, Discover failed to acknowledge these changes and instead attempted to contact me through the old, stolen phone number, thus impeding their ability to reach me regarding this matter. Furthermore, Discover 's claim that I paid for the charges is baseless and unfair. It is common knowledge that failing to pay credit card balances would result in the closure of my account. This does not justify denying my claim, as it is evident that the charges in question were fraudulent and unrelated to my legitimate financial activities. In efforts to substantiate my claim, I provided Discover with a police report confirming the theft of my phone & other property, as well as evidence that clearly demonstrates the fraudulent nature of the charges. Despite these measures, Discover failed to conduct a thorough investigation into my case until XXXX, even though it was initially promised for XXXX, XXXX & XXXX. In the meantime, I have been burdened with recharging for the fraudulent charges that I had already paid while awaiting the completion of the original investigation. This ongoing situation is significantly impacting my credit and causing further financial distress. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to a swift resolution and fair outcome.

Consumer Complaint: Although this in a similar complaint to the previous one, it came to light after the company had responded that this was actually discrimination based on my country of origin. The company required a verification process that required you to have previously filed a tax return in the United States, and did not provide an alternative process for those customers who did not originate in the United States. When they were unable to verify my details because of this, they made a discriminatory business decision to close my account. On complaining directly to Discover, they confirmed this is the process and refused to escalate the matter. Credit has therefore been discriminated against due to my country of origin.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I deposited a check for the amount of {$1900.00} from XXXX XXXX XXXX ( it was my old 401k account ). They placed a hold on the funds until XXXX XXXX I called to see if I could get the funds added to my account as I need the money. I was told it was the law that they held funds the way that they did. On XXXX XXXX I deposited my paycheck and again the funds were put on hold until XXXX XXXX This check was {$1600.00}. I called and they said it was because they had to verify the funds. Currently all my bill money and car repair money for my 401k is being held. I currently bank with Discover, and honestly was happy until now. I know it doesnt seem like a big deal to a banker, but I literally need this money to survive. I did some XXXX and couldnt find a law they could site, and I know they wouldnt assume the funds are not legitimate coming from XXXX XXXX It sounds like they are making money off the interest of my money while I go without. If this is legal I want to know how it could be justified. They assured me they would pay my bill late fees if I could prove they are at fault, but being they are a big bank, and that they can just hold my funds to their satisfaction I am worried that is a battle I will never win.

Consumer Complaint: I redeemed my credit card reward balance for a XXXX e-gift card within the Discover App. I was issued a gift card for {$100.00} value on XXXX. I did not use the card for a while and when I used it after 5-6 months I was told that the e-gift card was invalid on the XXXX website. After back and forth with both Discover Credit Card and XXXX, nobody is honoring the gift card. XXXX says this card is invalid and I should go back to the card issuer but Discover says that they can't issue a new gift card as it is system-generated and can not be invalid. FYI - both Discover and XXXX have confirmed that all gift cards have at least 2 years of validity. Credit card number - XXXX Gift card order number - XXXX Email reply from XXXX - We appreciate the screenshot from Discover however it appears that they issued an invalid gift card to you. Due to Discover who issued the invalid card, they will need to replace the card. If the card was purchased through XXXX and there was an issue with the gift card, the card would be replaced through XXXX. We do apologize for any inconvenience.
