Issue: Closing your account

Subissue: Company closed your account

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXXXXXX I received a letter informing me my Discover Card which I had since XXXX has been closed. I have never been late or had any issue regarding this card. The letter asks me to call if I disagree with the letter closing my account. I called and the agent claimed since the account is closed, she is unable to see the date the card was lasr used. I was transferred to a manager who claimed a letter was mailed to me in XX/XX/XXXX to advise me the account will be closed unless I use it by a specific dare. I have never received that letter, otherwise I wont be dealing with trying to have this XXXX XXXX XXXX account reactivated. We are in XXXX and Discover could have emailed or sent mea text of the potential problem. My address, phone number and email address havent changed in many years. This action by Discover is unfair and negatively affect my credit rating as a result of closing an old account ( 11 years ) without fair notice. I request reactivating my account and that Discover stop this harmful behavior.

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Deposits and withdrawals

Consumer Complaint: XXXX Discover called regarding attempted charges to my debit card. On the phone with them for over an hour. XXXX attempts were made using my debit # in North Carolina - XXXX $ XXXX, XXXX XXXX $ XXXX, XXXX $ XXXX and another attempt while we were on the phone. Was told to enter XXXX as a secondary precaution. Also needed to scan a copy of XXXX XXXX XXXX bank with a selfie to be sent to the XXXX XXXX Department. XXXX XXXX is the person who made the attempts and she tried to be put on my account as an authorized user saying she was my sister ( NC ). At that time, I informed them that there are no authorized users to be added to my account and told them in all caps XXXX XXXX is to access my account. ( I was told that was great since the call was being recorded that I said that ). It was recommended that I use Tap & Go instead of inserting my card into the machines. XXXX received and email about my Wire Transfer ( I have never done a Wire Transfer ) Spoke with XXXX, then transferred to XXXX, then transferred to Lavendar ( Wire XXXX ). They are trying to recall the {$7000.00} + {$30.00} wire transfer fee. They reissued the savings account and recommended filing a police report. Was given the name of XXXX XXXX as the person who received the funds. XXXX received a letter stating the investigation was closed. Called Discover and was told that they attempted to recall the funds, but they had already been picked up and I was out of my {$7000.00}. They did tell me that XXXX XXXX XXXX was the bank that received the funds for XXXX XXXX. As of right now my total that I am out is {$9400.00} ( they have XXXX charges still pending on my account ) Right now, I need assistance with getting back my {$7000.00} Police Report # XXXX

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan

Consumer Complaint: I was unemployed during this summer due to studying for my bar exam. I explained my situation to Discover who offered no help. Their response was to ask me to make a payment of $ XXXX {$300.00}. When I again explained to them that I was unemployed and had no income at the moment they told me they had no other options to help me during this time. I was unable to make payments through the months of XXXX. Discover went to my co-signers who did eventually pay the amount. However, I was still marked as delinquent. I did not authorize the payment nor did I make the payment and I am still being penalized and my credit is being negatively affected. I am now in a position to make smaller payments and have signed up for a payment plan. However, based on when I was enrolled, Discover still reported delinquency for the month of XXXX despite me not making a payment yet and being enrolled in a plan. I now have four delinquent account notices on my credit report due to Discover filing with the credit agencies despite the amount being fully paid and being enrolled in a payment plan. After speaking with Discover they refuse to remove the delinquent notices. This practice is both unfair and unethical and has severely negatively impacted my credit score to no fault of my own. This student loan company does not care about it's borrowers nor do they care about finding a resolution for all parties involved. They engage in predatory practices, including harassment and unethical business practices. Avoid at all costs.

Issue: Applying for a mortgage or refinancing an existing mortgage

Subissue: Application denials

Consumer Complaint: I had an application for a mortgage with XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX and I was looking at better terms and interest rates and before I put in an application with discover Bank I specifically asked them if there was a revocable trust on the property whether that would affect the loan and they said no. I later get a letter denying the mortgage. The effect of making my application decreased my credit score although it is and has been consistently excellent. Today I got an inane letter saying Discover was complying with the law by giving me the reason. Reason one says our credit decision was based in whole and in part on information obtained in the report from consumer reporting agency listed below. They list no credit reporting agency so to paraphrase the are saying " somebody somewhere influenced their decision. Second point it says the decision was based on other unnamed sources or an affiliate. My complaint is that Discovery Bank should have made the credit report that they based the denial of my loan and name the affiliate or the outside source which influence their decision so that I can approach them to find out what their problem was. Please note XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX had no problem processing my loan at a little bit higher percent so they could not have been a major credit report or affiliate or associate that cause XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX to deny my mortgage In reviewing the reviews for discover Bank this is apparently a common practice that they cancel mortgage applications for no apparent reasons.
