Issue: Closing your account
Subissue: Company closed your account
Consumer Complaint: I applied for a secured credit card with Discover Financial Services on XX/XX/XXXX and was approved. On XX/XX/XXXX the account was opened. On XX/XX/XXXX I was sent an email requesting my signature for IRS Consent form XXXX Then on XX/XX/XXXX I received an email saying my account was closed because they were unable to verify personal information. So now as I am rebuilding my credit I am set back even further with a closed account on my report. The 4506-C clearly should have been sent before the account was opened. Additionally, when entering my income in the credit application there is no mention that they may ask for tax information from the irs. I think they should be more clear to the consumer that it is very probable that they will request a 4506-C after the account is already opened.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: A renewal charge of {$53.00} was placed on my Discover card without my authorization. The renew was for a service that no longer exists. I contacted the merchant, and, as a precaution, I also disputed the charge with Discover. The merchant agreed to refund the charge and sent me a document showing that the refund was made. However, Discover did not give me credit for the refund. I contacted Discover and sent then copies of emails from the merchant, attesting that the charge was not valid and was refunded. However, Discover ignored these emails. I called Discover and talked to XXXX. She did not question the fact that i paid the charge through Discover, nor did she question the validity of the emails from the merchant stating the charge was not valid and should be refunded, nor did she question whether the merchant made the refund. She said the transaction was handled through XXXX, and i would have to contact them. I can not do that because I have no relationship with XXXX, in the context of this transaction. I did not pay XXXX ; I paid Discover. If Discover handled the transaction through XXXX, it was not my choice and out of my hands. My dispute is with Discover, and i have demonstrated it is not a valid charge. I expect Discover to honor the dispute and recover the charge from whatever entity Discover paid.

Consumer Complaint: The latest credit report I checked still shows that this account is being reported inaccurately and incorrectly, despite that I sent previous dispute letters to your agency. This account is being reported reflecting multiple " violation '' statements. I don't believe the status of this account is accurate.

Issue: Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers
Subissue: Confusing or misleading advertising about the credit card
Consumer Complaint: I applied for a Discover prepaid card and was approved on XX/XX/XXXX. They withdrewthe deposit on XX/XX/XXXX and opened the account on XX/XX/XXXX. After approval and before even receiving the card they asked for more information on the XXXX. This ended up including a tax form plus a notary form. They said it was for identity verification but did not explain that it included 3 months of my personal account balances. I received the card on XX/XX/XXXX and assumed the tax form was enough. When I tried to use the card I found out it had a soft hold on it. At this point I felt deceived and misled and once I saw the form and what it asked for, I refused to submit back balances to have a non-working prepaid credit card. During the whole process I was switched to different people, none of whom could provide answers or anyone who could. Discover planned to close the account on XX/XX/XXXX but forced me to close the account in order to speak to a higher representative. I said I just wanted the account closed so I could get back my deposit. They closed the account " at my request '' knowing this would prevent any further action from me about the account. When I contacted the XXXX Discover reached out and sent the refund, but also said they would look into the issue of how this whole ordeal damaged my credit. They've never addressed this issue. They've never contacted me as promised, and when I contact them I get the usual spin. They only damaged me, they never even gave me a card I could use once, but kept my money for almost 2 months, earning the interest I could have earned. I have only been damaged by this situation.
