Issue: Struggling to pay mortgage
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: Good afternoon- I currently have a second mortgage with Discover Home Loans in the amount of {$80000.00}. For over a year now, I have been not working but fighting with them to assist me in any sort of way. 1 ) XX/XX/XXXX or so I submitted a hardship package due to my excessive monthly obligations. I sent in all the asked documents. 2 ) On XX/XX/XXXX, I XXXX XXXX with XXXX XXXX I was XXXX and in XXXX for 10 days. I was XXXX with XXXX. I was out of work for 2 months. 3 ) I continued to send documents to Discover but every single month, they kept on asking for more documents. 4 ) The loss mitigation unit never calls me or emails me but the Collection Unit calls me every 7 days guarantee. 5 ) On XXXX the collection associate went over my financials. Once I told her how much I gave my local church in tithing- she suggested that I stop giving my tithing in order to pay Discover. I was very disappointed and frustrated because I felt as if she was getting in my religion. I asked for an official complaint to be filed. I would like to go on record with such actions including Social Media and news. 6 ) She transferred me to the Loss Mitigation department who simply stated for to keep on sending bank statements and paystubs. 7 ) Why has this case taken over a year? Why cant a Manager be assigned to my case? I asked XXXX XXXX ( my primary mortgage ) for assistance and within 30 days they had a resolution. 8 ) it seems as if Discover wants me to give up on asking for help but I need help. I am a single father of 3 with a heavy financial burden. 9 ) Its important to mention that XXXX XXXX is in the process of helping but theyre also getting the same treatment. I will write a letter to corporate office to see if someone would have mercy on me. I would like this case to be escalated as high as possible.

Issue: Applying for a mortgage or refinancing an existing mortgage
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: I applied for a home equity loan on XX/XX/XXXX. In the initial screening, I was asked if I had a money market account, and I said yes. Discover Home Loans, reached out to me for all the required documents, but did not ask for my money market statement. I called XXXX and asked about my status and they said it was finishing in underwriting and all was good and it would process the following week. The following week, I noticed that my loan was denied. I called Discover and they said the loan was denied because I didn't have sufficient liquid assets. Apparently you need 2x your monthly mortgage in your checking account. I was never advised of this. I could have moved money from my money market. Also, no one ever called me to discuss the denial even though the website says my personal banker would be reaching out to me. When I spoke to a different banker on XX/XX/XXXX, they explained the denial and said someone should have called me with a counter or to request the money market statement. Then he arranged for a supervisor to call me and said it would be that day. I never received a call from the supervisor. He said I could reapply with the money market, but I would have to start all over again. I had all the required documents and liquid assets to obtain this loan, but due to poor communication on the part of Discover employees, I was denied. In my opinion this is bad business. I hold a Discover credit card, they sent me the info to apply for the loan and then didn't do their part to close the loan properly, nor did they follow up with me when I called to understand why. I especially have a problem, with a supervisor not following up.

Consumer Complaint: This company has absolutely no buyer protection. I have not received proper items for two charges on my card and Discover is considering these charges valid. If it happened once, I could understand but multiple charges that are being considered valid regardless if I received them or not Discover charges the consumer.
