Subissue: Debt was result of identity theft
Consumer Complaint: During the mortgage process I was made aware that multiple accounts had been reported to my personal file that did not belong to me.I reported this information to law enforcement as well as the credit agencies furnishing the information. I have attempted to resolve these discrepancies multiple times over the past couple of years. I even voluntarily paid some of the accounts in order to stop the damage to my credit and constant harassment by collectors. I was informed by my lender to file a complaint with the consumer protection bureau. I request immediate deletion of this account.

Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/XXXX, I contacted Discover because there were two charges from a company called XXXX XXXX XXXX totaling approximately {$8000.00}. The first purchase ( approximately {$6600.00} ) was made around XX/XX/XXXX, and the second ( roughly {$1500.00} ) was made the first week of XXXX. When I saw the charges, I immediately contacted Discover and filed a fraud dispute. I filed a police report as instructed and sent all the required documents. I also attempted several times to contact the merchant. I called more than ten times. I also sent emails. The company has yet to respond to or respond to my emails. Finally, I was informed in XX/XX/XXXX to file a billing dispute. So I did. Around this time, Discover provided temporary credit over three times and reversed it. It has been over eight months since the initial fraud filing, and Discover has provided me with no assistance. Recently, Discover reversed the credit they provided, and I am still waiting for a clear answer. I was informed in XX/XX/XXXX the last credit I received would probably be finalized because the merchant had yet to respond or provide proof of delivery. I do not understand or know what happened between XXXX when I was informed the temporary credit would likely be final and XXXX of XXXX. This has been eight months of emotional hell. I feel scammed by whoever used my credit card and by Discover. Discover has not protected me financially and mentally. I spoke with XXXX on Saturday, XX/XX/XXXX, from XXXX at Discover, and even she saw inconsistency in the investigation and noted it. All of this has exacerbated my health issue..
