Issue: Improper use of your report
Subissue: Credit inquiries on your report that you don't recognize
Consumer Complaint: To whom it may concern, According to my most recently credit report, your company is currently reporting to the three credit bureaus that I applied for credit with your organization. I do no recall granting you this authorization to review my credit report. The Fair Credit Report Act requires that a creditor to be able to verify the written authorization of the consumer giving the creditor permission to review their credit. If you can provide a copy of a credit application authorizing the disclosure of my credit files with my signature, I will accept the inquiry. If a signed authorization can not be found please remove the inquiry from the three main credit bureaus. The presence of this inquiry is adversely effecting my credit report and is impending my ability to obtain necessary credit. Time is of the essence so I would greatly appreciate a response from you within thirty ( 30 ) days. Please mail me the copy of the signed application or a letter indicating your intention to delete the inquiry.

Issue: Incorrect information on your report
Subissue: Information belongs to someone else
Consumer Complaint: I was notified XX/XX/2023 by XXXX XXXX that my name was added to someones credit card. Upon checking my XXXX credit report per XXXX XXXX, it shows a Discover Card account # XXXX with a balance {$2900.00} that is not my card or account. I called XXXXiscover Card Services and spoke with a XXXX who informed me the holder of the card was also a victim of fraud. My name was added to the account fraudulently using my correct name, birth date and social security number. However, they used an incorrect address of XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, FL XXXX of which I have never lived. I have never lived in Florida ever. Discover stated they would remove my name from the account and notify credit bureaus to remove the account from my credit report. So someone is using my name, date of birth and social security number to commit fraudulent credit card theft.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Card was charged for something you did not purchase with the card
Consumer Complaint: My deceased husband had a Discover card in his name. I was unaware of the card, was never an authorized user, nor did i formally agree to be responsible for this card.. He died intestate, in great debt, and because we were separated and lived in separate locations since XXXX it was quite a feat to deal with is finances. I notified all known creditors of his death and the majority were gracious when i explained that i had requested an autopsy and therefore any funds that i may receive as his surviving spouse would not come until approximately six months. Discover called my home at XXXX every week and Saturdays and called up until XXXX XXXX at night. The harassment was so great until i took to XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX I spoke with the company and they requested proof that i did not live with my husband so i sent electric, gas, mortgage receipts, and other documents they requested for me to prove i was not aware of or responsible for the debt. i told them that there was not estate. They harassed me, invaded my privacy and to add insult to injury, they reported me to the credit bureaus as default on a debt and a 1099c for XXXX. I spoke with a representative to question why this action was taken even though it was not my debt and i was not required to pay it ; the customer service clerk said they were going to continue to attempt to either collect debt or charge me because my husband had used an account with my name on it to pay the bill. my name actually was initially on a XXXX XXXX XXXX account when were younger. However, my name was not on his checks and my checking account was at XXXX saving bank for several years. I was not aware that my name was still on that account.. Not sure if i was still an authorized user. I did not have a debit account for that XXXX account, and my name was not on his checks. Discover has ruined my credit and now jeopardizes me on my income taxes for federal and the state of VA. I am at my wits end and they won't listen. The tactics they are using are severe and harassing. Please help.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments
Consumer Complaint: I have contacted Discover XXXX XXXX several times throughout my time with them about payment plans, how my payments are getting applied, etc. They do recommend doing the payment into a forbearance program, but this would increase my rates and i would need to pay more in the long run, which I do not want to do. I applied to get my loans consolidated to lower my payments by a couple XXXX dollars. I currently am paying almost $ XXXX, and struggle to do so. I have XXXX children, rent, and babysitter that i have to also pay for. After applying and passing all the requirements except the debt-to-income ratio, I was denied. My credit score is excellent. So, I am currently back at where i started struggling to make ends meet. They made no efforts to help me during the COVID-19 pandemic either. I have only been late on my payments once in the last 4-5 years, and it was only by a week. I have tried to go to different companies to refinance my loans, but I get that discover is to difficult to work with because they are a private loan company. If Discover would have disclosed qualifying criteria and pre-qualifications, I would have never went through Discover XXXX XXXX.

Issue: Trouble using your card
Subissue: Credit card company won't increase or decrease your credit limit
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, Discover decreased my credit limit significantly, and the reasons on the letter seem inaccurate and misleading. I called their Credit Operations team and inquired about the erroneous information and was told the credit reporting came from XXXX. I advised there is no collections on my account and after investigation from the representative they confirmed the same so he proceeded to attempt to reinstatement my credit limits to what they were before this change, but was not able to do so. Instead, he advised another set of generic reasons for the decline, my " credit to debt ratio is too high ''. I would like to have this issue rectified as this has likely not happened to only me before. I work hard to keep my accounts and reporting in good order. It is not fair that the mistake should be kept in place. I asked the representative of Discover for the credit report ID number so I can discuss with the credit reporting agency and I was told that info does not exist. Furthermore, the company does a poor job with their reasoning for adverse actions. In the past when asking for credit limit in increases, I get generic reasons such as " inexperience with current credit limit or history of the current account ( s ) '' in which means I would have some kind of negative history with my account, but when I call and inquire about these reasons I am told it is based on " several '' factors and that is just one. To me this is not fair or appropriate if it results in adverse decisioning.
