Issue: Closing your account
Subissue: Company closed your account
Consumer Complaint: This complaint is with Discover Financial Services. On or about XX/XX/XXXX my charges went over the limit. I immediately reached to Discover to setup payment arrangements and get the card back into good standing. I complied with all setup direct pay program so the payments would automatically deduct. Part of what caused the overage at that time was identity theft causing additional costs and restructuring of my banking accounts. I moved my banking at that time to XXXX from the credit union. I remain a client of XXXX to this day. The latter action allowed me to maintain my account with Discover along with a program suggested and offered by Discover. I have requested a copy of the program agreement over and over and to date still have not received the copy of the communication. When I signed up with the program I spoke to the representative several times to get clear. The agreement set a specific payment over 12 months to assist in making sure the account was back into good standing which occurred. I made these payments for the 12 months on time. What I was told by the representative who signed me up was that during the timeframe of the agreement I could not make any charges. As I stated my goal was to payoff my account so this was not a concern. Fast forward, I made all of the agreement payments and paid down this card over the past 3-4 years in good standing where it moved from XXXX balance to appr. XXXX after I paid them a lump sum payment of about XXXX in XXXX. I contacted the servicing center about XXXX things. To find out why the card was not functional and I wanted to add my my oldest child due to the fact that under XXXX I was hospitalized in XXXX and I did not want to have any issues should anything occur with my health. During this call, I was told that my account was suspended? I was never told my account would be suspended for the program agreement. I was told that I could not charge. In addition to this, I was told that they were reviewing my XXXX XXXX report in order to consider the account being reactivated. Needless to say I was livid and floored. I also shared with the representative that not only was XXXX XXXX in a national lawsuit but I also have been working with an attorney to clear incorrect and false information. Then on XX/XX/XXXX I found a correspondence from Discover that based on information from a credit report that they would be closing my account. I have been a Discover customer for almost 8 years and worked with them accordingly to handle my accout responsibly. This complaint is based on the following : XXXX. For a national credit card lender to provide false and incomplete information as it relates to a credit account and program which causes damage to a consumer should not be allowed. XXXX. For a consumer to perform correctly in paying and bringing down debt with a temporary program that is used by the credit provider to permanently affect a consumers credit without proper disclosure and documentation should be illegal XXXX Credit providers should be held by law when they receive a complaint ( which I did sometime between XX/XX/XXXX and present where I requested a copy of the original agreement which was electronically executed back in XXXX ) and for the lender to just ignore consumer requests again should be illegal. XXXX. Where credit lenders can unilaterally hold a consumer 's account XXXX based on non-disclosed evaluations. If I had not called Discover I would have never known that about these credit evaluations through XXXX XXXX ( no documentation about any reviews had ever been issued to me the consumer ). I am asking for a reconsideration in closing my account and that the CFPB investigate this complaint based on consumer protection laws. Discover has taken auto pay as recent as XX/XX/XXXX for my account which had a balance of XXXX per my statement sent on XX/XX/XXXX with the next {$20.00} to be deducted as it has been every month for years. Thank you,

Consumer Complaint: I applied for a personal loan and it was funded in XXXX XXXXOne reason I choose Discover is because it said no pre-payment penalty. Discover set up the first payment for XX/XX/23. The regular payment is {$480.00}. On XX/XX/XXXX, I paid {$580.00} which was an extra {$100.00} in addition to the regular payment. Instead of Discover counting the extra {$100.00} to the principal alone, they took some and applied it to the interest and only {$56.00} or so went toward principal. When I called to complain, their excuse was that because it was the first payment, it had accrued more interest because it was like 53 days since the funds were distributed. I explained to them that Discover set up the payment as well as the payment plan and that should have been taken into account when they set up the payment plan and that should NOT have affected my {$100.00} EXTRA PAYMENT THAT WAS MEANT TO GO 100 % TOWARD PRINCIPAL. I signed in today to make another payment and had every intention of paying an additional {$100.00} but if they are just going to take some of it and apply toward imaginary principal, I decided not to pay extra which of course benefits Discover. So in effect, it has a prepayment penalty.

Consumer Complaint: This company has continuously reported inaccurate information on my consumer report. They intentionally reported a charge-off on my consumer report when it is in fact considered income. According to The IRS, they clearly defines a charge-off as Gross or ordinary income, INCOME DOES NOT GET REPORTED ON THE CONSUMER REPORT which in fact makes reporting a charge-off on my account inaccurate! I have contacted this company several times to delete this inaccurate account from my consumer report, but they constantly refuse to correct their unlawful behavior. It has damaged the character of my consumer reputation and I will be seeking remedy.

Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: In XXXX, I cancelled my XXXX services, at which time they ( XXXX ) indicated that I had to pay a termination fee of {$430.00}, which I disputed. I told them ( XXXX ) at that time that there were NOT authorized to charge my card for this. XXXX charged me anyway. Subsequently, I spoke with Discover and set up a dispute, at which time, I informed Discover that they were not authorized to post the XXXX charge and that I would deal with XXXX collections separately. I noticed on my current statement, that Discover went ahead and reposted the charge. This dispute is between XXXX and me and I will handle it outside of my credit card. The issue here is that I have informed both parties that they do NOT have my authorization to complete this charge and my wishes are being ignored. I want the {$430.00} removed from my credit card bill immediately as, as I have previously stated, XXXX can start collections for the money and I will handle that with an attorney.

Issue: Managing an account
Subissue: Cashing a check
Consumer Complaint: - A check book was sent to me from Discover- The checks were stolen from my mailbox before I received them- Somebody wrote a check to themselves using my checks for {$8900.00} - I only had ~ {$8500.00} in my checking account- Discover allowed this stolen check to be cashed despite the fact that my checking account had insufficient funds. Discover did not alert me prior to processing the transaction even though the amount was large, the signature could not have matched my signature, and it has been years since I used a check ( red flag ). - Discover charged me the difference between the amount of the check and the amount that I had in my checking account ( ~ {$350.00} ) in order to cover the insufficient funds- Discover has passed me around their customer service team for two days without any meaningful progress- Discover has been unwilling to apply a good-faith credit to my account for the {$8900.00} that was stolen while their investigation occurs
