Issue: Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers
Subissue: Confusing or misleading advertising about the credit card
Consumer Complaint: Discover financial services had a promotion being offered for me on my current account with them of 0 % for x months on balance transfers. My rate on my credit card from another credit card company was high so I thought I take advantage of this offer. I knew and read that the APR rate would change after the promotional period was over. Where I was mislead was I didn't see or at the very least understand that my payments would go towards the lower interest balance ( transfer balance ) first, then the regular balance. I transferred the balance from the other credit company and paid the transfer fee. I saw no disclosures that payments made on the account will apply to the lower APR account, or the balance transfer. Now I am paying interest on the account and this is contrary to the advertised 0 % balance transfer. Had it been made clear to me that my payments would be applied to the lower APR balance then I would have not made the transfer.

Issue: Problem when making payments
Subissue: You never received your bill or did not know a payment was due
Consumer Complaint: Discover Card XXXX, failed to uphold their due diligence in providing me the consumer ample and timely notification of required payments that are to be made to satisfy payment on the account and prevent it from reaching a late payment status, in XXXX of 2021 this account was placed with XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ( not a collection agency ) for repayment through payments through the service, thereafter upon checking my credit report, Discover Card reported this account as closed, regardless of the nature, I still agreed to be making payments to the service acknowledging the possibility it was still open. It was until examining my credit report a late payment remark of 30 days was made, I contacted Discover Card to please rectify the status in good faith as a mistake on both parties, me the consumer, and Discover Credit Card failing to make multiple attempts to either email me, call me, or send me a letter in the mail, the customer service team rather becomes defensive and argues then acknowledging any mistake, and that they send me paperless statement which I never receive emails from Discover Card or any late warnings. I am very disappointed and aggravated with the poor customer service I received from Discover Card 's inability to file an internal dispute toward my referenced above complaint to remedy the issue... and if you look back at the chat history it really frustrates me more then when I was late after the first billing cycle Discover Card didn't initiate any sort of contact to rectify the late status with my account...

Consumer Complaint: I have observed that you have listed an alleged debt on my consumer report without any prior communication. I demand that you provide the 1099c for this account. It is unjust to report this account and have it displayed on my consumer report. I have enclosed my complaint letter for your review, and I expect a careful examination of its contents. If this matter is not addressed appropriately, I will pursue legal action against your organization.
