Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Card opened as result of identity theft or fraud
Consumer Complaint: I have filed a FTC report last year for fraud Because there was a fraudulent card opened in my name with DISCOVER With a credit limit of {$9000.00}. The card was removed off of my consumer reports however I received a few letters from an attorney from DISCOVER. This account is not mine. I am attaching a new FTC REPORT in hopes to get this account resolved. Please remove my information from your company as I do not have any cards with you DISCOVER.

Consumer Complaint: Discover Card just sold my personal information, they had from a deleted account. They sold my information to XXXX XXXX XXXX. This is the beginning of more harassment and intimidation via constant phone calls from XXXX XXXX XXXX who wants me to tell them my name and info or they will continue intimidation tactics like unlawfully reporting old deleted accounts. Discover card has not provided me with a 1099C has requested, nor have them shown a contract between the name XXXX XXXX AND DISCOVER CARD. They are essentially selling my name, address, and social security number, and keeping my personal information as a asset for life, continuously selling old accounts to debt buyers, without providing anyone with a 1099c showing the debt was discharged almost 2 yrs prior. I am seeking damages for violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Debt Practices Act, and The Fair Credit Billing Act.

Consumer Complaint: I signed a contract with XXXX XXXX to have solar panels installed at our residence. On XX/XX/XXXX, I paid XXXX XXXX a {$5000.00} down payment with our Discover Card for the project. Work was supposed to start in XXXX of XXXX. In XXXX of XXXX we learned through news sources, primarily The XXXX XXXX XXXX, that XXXX had closed and ceased work on all projects. I repeatedly reached out to XXXX through email, phone calls, and a certified letter, but heard nothing. When it became clear that we were not going to have our project completed, or our down payment reimbursed by XXXX, I filed a complaint with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer protection, and filed a police report. I then reported the fraudulent charge in XXXX to our credit card company Discover and filed a dispute. On XX/XX/XXXX Discover denied my claim, saying in part that they could not " validate the details of your claim '', despite the fact that I provided the contracts, receipts, all communications, and the actual charge on the credit card. After receiving this I contacted Discover by phone XXXX times to get an explanation. I was given various reasons including that XXXX wouldn't communicate with Discover, and that the charge happened a long time ago. I found an online community of people who also lost money and/or have had incomplete projects through XXXX. I was ( and still am ) very frustrated to learn that pretty much all of the people who put money down through their credit cards were able to get the money back, including other Discover customers.

Consumer Complaint: Dear Discover Bank, I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to bring to your attention a concerning matter related to the reporting of late payments on my discover account number starting with 601101. I believe that my rights as a consumer, as protected under the federal law, specifically 15 U.S.C 1666b, have been violated due to not adopting reasonable procedures by not notifying me 21 days before the payment due date. I have been a loyal customer of your company for two years, and I have always strived to maintain a good credit history. You also did not give me proper notice for furnishing of negative information in writing to me as a consumer pursuant to 15 U.S.C 1681s-2 ( 7 ) According to 15 U.S.C 6802 ( b ), as a consumer I was never given the opportunity to opt out from such information/account being disclosed to third parties ( All credit agencies ). I asked that you delete this account beginning in XXXX that was opened on XX/XX/2021 from all third parties that I was not given the opportunity to opt out from. Failure to address this issue in a timely manner may result in further legal action to protect my rights as a consumer. I trust that you will handle this matter with the urgency and professionalism it deserves. Please provide a written response within 30 days of receiving this letter. Consumer Complaint: In the past XXXX years there have been THREE fraudulent charges on my Discover Card. I disputed all three each at the time when the charge occurred. The first two were not properly investigated and I was unable to get a phone call from a human. I therefore paid the fake charges to keep my account in good standing, as I have never as much as carried a credit card balance in my entire life and my credit score is around XXXX. However the third charge was a ridiculous amoung and the final straw. I did still pay the charge while I disputed it. However, for the third time, Discover failed to investigate and failed to return any phone calls whatsoever. I have been requesting phone calls for XXXX consecutive months and have not received a single callback. Their hold times are absurd. Their chatbot online does nothing. So, Discover card actually owes me money as I overpaid the account. Because I have never missed a payment or even carried a balance, this must be the only way Discover card can make any money from me. It shoucld be noted that this same fake charge came up on XXXX other credit cards who both found the charge fraululent immediately. Discover however told me to " call the merchant '' except that is not possible since it is a fake merchant. There is no phone number, address, email address, etc. Discover also mailed me an ilegible document with some lines in it and no text, claiming that was their documentation from investigating the charge, so obviously no investigation happened. They wrongly updated my credit report inaccurately and continue to owe me money. Lastly, they failed to remove a second user on my account that was removed several years ago, then endangered my personal info and privacy by sending that personal person info about my account. I have not yet received a response that addressed even XXXX of these issues let alone the whole complaint. To sum : 1 ) fake charge # 1 2 ) fake charge # 2 3 ) fake charge # 3 ( current ) 4 ) person not removed from account 5 ) inability to investigate fake charges multiple times 6 ) wrong info on credit report 7 ) WILL NOT EVEN GIVE ME A PHONE CALL BACK 8 ) Discover still owes me money Please investigate these horrible crimes committed on the behalf of Discover as this is downright theft of hardworking people who don't carry credit balances so clearly this is Discover trying to make money any way it can. If it hopes it will frustrate people into giving up and paying it did that with me twice already but not this time.

Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/2022 {$2.00} charge ( I DID NOT MAKE ) on inactive Discover card. Did not receive a bill. Did not receive an email or alert. Did not receive anything from Discover. Paid 2 months late- did not initially dispute since it was a small amount. Credit score is now down over 100 points for missed payments on a Fraudulent {$2.00} charge. The only missed payments in my entire credit history. I contacted Discover. I received a written correspondence that there was nothing they would do. I contacted XXXX and XXXX refunded the fraudulent charge. I contacted Discover again to see if there was any way they could update my credit report. They said NO. I believe that my credit score should not be impacted by this fraudulent charge. The Discover agent told me to contact you. I do not believe that this incident at all reflects my true credit history.

Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Card opened as result of identity theft or fraud
Consumer Complaint: I just went online to my XXXX XXXX XXXX, and my Credit Score had lowered by XXXX plus points. As I researched the immediate decrease, I find the following : I have been experiencing identity theft since XXXX 2022. This was due to a data breach by XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. The identity thieves have been able to accomplish much fraudulent activity with Discover Card Services. I have made countless contacts with Discover Card relevant to this. I have closed accounts to prevent this. All my Discover accounts should be closed. And if not, do so immediately. I have filed disputes directly with Discover Card, through Credit Bureaus, and also filed previous complaints with CFPB against Discover Card for this. I had everything properly set in place to prevent this -- -and why does Discover Card continue to allow this same thing to happen?? This back and forth is getting very aggravating. I am asking for help to immediately stop this. I have Credit Freeze and Fraud Alerts in place to prevent this. I should have no open accounts with Discover Card. So how have these identity thieves charged just under {$2000.00}. Please review all my disputes and communications and there have been many. Make certain I have no open accounts, and remove this from my Credit File.
