Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was result of identity theft
Consumer Complaint: I received a collection letter stating that I owed {$1000.00} to XXXX XXXX XXXX. I called XXXX XXXX XXXX directly and provided them the account number that was on the collection letter. The representative at XXXX XXXX XXXX informed me that there was an account opened under my name during the time frame of XX/XX/2015 - XX/XX/2015 at a residence that I have never lived before. The suggested for me to file a police report and request an identity theft complain report at TFC.gov.

Consumer Complaint: I recieved a variety of bills via mail from both XXXX XXXX XXXX ( {$5200.00} ) and XXXX ( {$120.00} ) in early XXXX for lines that were opened under my name without my permission or knowledge. I immediately filed fraud reports with XXXX XXXX XXXX and XXXX, a police report ( NYPD ), credit bureau alerts, and an FTC identity theft report. No one from XXXX XXXX XXXX or XXXX responded to my online fraud submissions- even though both confirmation emails said they would be in touch within ( 5 ) business days. I was unable to reach anyone who could assist via phone at either company after multiple attempts. I was always directed to a line that was automated and sent me to the website to submit a report. I then started to recieve collections notices - XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX via XXXX XXXX ( XX/XX/22 ) and XXXX via Convergant ( XX/XX/22 ). These owed amounts should have never been sent to collections as they were fraudulent, and I reported them so. Negligence by the telecom companies to acknowledge my written documentation of fraudulent activity and to pass it off to collections agency. Convergant ( XXXX fraud charges collection agency ) never acknowledged my confirmation that the charges were fraudulent ( XX/XX/22 ). My XXXXredit score took a major hit ( over 100 points ), bringing it from near perfect to " fair ''.
