I checked my credit score and learned thar I owe money for a XXXX phone bill and the collection agency that is trying to collect is Jefferson Capital, the date of the account is XXXX XXXX. I was incarcerated so it was impossible for me to open a phone account. I have no knowledge of this account, I did not enter into any agreement with Jefferson Capital, nor did I agree to pay them any money

My social security was compromised and someone made an account and charged that amount to XXXX which is a buy now, pay later company. I was not able to see this on my credit report until very recently when I got an alert from XXXXXXXX XXXX My payments are always made on time so this was shocking for me. I have spoken and worked with XXXX - XXXX XXXX - Restoration Specialist to resolve this matter. We have called Jefferson Capital Systems to report fraud/identity theft. Consumer Complaint: Please, please please make all the credit agencies PROVE that the debt they are attempting to have reported on a consumer 's account is good debt w/in the statue of limitations BEFORE the credit companies put the info on a consumer 's report and downgrade the credit rating. Innocent until proven guilty. My Experian account reported that my credit score went down b/c of new information reported by XXXX XXXX XXXX Acct XXXX who CLAIMS I owe {$98.00} to XXXX. XXXX bought this debt they are attempting to collect from me. XXXX reported that it was current as of XX/XX/XXXX and shows little x marks next the past XXXX months on some bogus report they misrepresented and fabricated. As reported on XXXX report JCS phone = XXXX, address XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX MN XXXX. I opened a dispute advising XXXX to request XXXX scammers prove that its debt collection action follows the Virginia state statue of limitations debt collection laws. XXXX responded w/in hours that the debt collection attempt is good and my dispute is closed. I have NOT had a XXXX account since XXXX or XXXX when I switched to XXXX XXXX to XXXX years ago - way past the statue of limitations. I contacted XXXX XXXX to set up home internet service. XXXX first ran a credit check on me to determine if I owed XXXX any money, The XXXX rep told me in XXXX I do not own XXXX any money. I phone XXXX XXXX on XXXX XX/XX/XXXX. Experian online now prevents me from reopening my online complaint or it is hidden behind some screen. I XXXX robot prevented me from speaking to a customer service rep saying it is impossible for me to speak to a cust. svc. rep. Call back another time. When is the federal govt going to put guidelines in for the three credit agencies who are clearly in bed w the predators and demand that they make it super simple for people to easily respond to the repeated misrepresentation of this debt collector predators.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I called Jefferson Capital Systems LLC at XXXX XXXX about a payment plan option that is set to expire on XXXX XXXX. I wanted to choose option 1 for a full lump sum payment in full. I spoke with a representative named XXXX who could not explain why I received a collection on my XXXX credit report which dropped my score XXXXXXXX XXXX and it was only XX/XX/2023. He could not explain why so I requested a supervisor. A supervisor named XXXX XXXX spoke with me and informed me that they can actually report that to the credit bureau after having my account for 90 days. He then told me that they received my account on XX/XX/2023. I replied that 90 days would be XXXX XXXX and today was XXXX XXXX so it was not 90 days. He put me on a brief hold and then came back and told me it was 40 days and that my 40 days was expired. At that moment I felt that something was not right and that it may be thousands of other people who rights are being taken advantage of and being violated. Please see attached documents for verification and the phone call was on a recorded line at phone number XXXX on XXXX XXXX. Thank you so much for your help and investigation into this matter. My plan was to pay it before the XXXX XXXX deadline however it was already reported and had damaged my credit score significantly before that date.
