Issue: Written notification about debt
Subissue: Didn't receive notice of right to dispute
Consumer Complaint: I have a shared debt with my ex to Jefferson Capital Systems , LLC. that was escalated to a debt collector XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ) in XXXX. First of all, I tried refinancing with Jefferson Capital Systems and told them that if they couldn't refinance with me I wouldn't be able to make my payments, as my ex ( the co-owner on the car ) backed out of his share on payments when we broke up. They would not even consider it. So I had to voluntarily surrender my car. Secondly, I was never served ( I never received a summons! ), yet somehow I ended up sued. Apparently the summons went to my ex 's address and I didn't know about it until my ex told me what happened after the fact. Nevertheless, I made a payment arrangement with XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, the debt collector. I had been making automatic monthly payments of {$50.00} to XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX since then ( XX/XX/XXXX ) until XX/XX/XXXX, when I changed banks and forgot to update my payment method with XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, and my payments to them stopped. The last payment was on XX/XX/XXXX. Nobody ever contacted me in any way to try and collect the debt again, but my boss got a letter in the mail yesterday ( XX/XX/XXXX ), stamp dated XX/XX/XXXX, from the state to garnish my wages. I called XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX this morning at XXXXXXXX XXXX and asked if I could continue making my payments and they told me no, it was too late. Then the lady I was speaking with told me the state already took over {$500.00} out of my check on XX/XX/XXXX, which isn't true. I got paid my regular amounts on the XXXX and the XXXX, and I verified with my boss that nothing has been garnished. She flat out lied to me, giving me false information that wouldn't even be XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX 's concern anymore. I also have call recording on my phone, but somehow they blocked recording, which makes them even more shady.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was result of identity theft
Consumer Complaint: Several fraudulent collections are reported on my credit report. I discovered it, and I contacted and sent an FTC identity theft report to the collection agencies and the credit bureaus to remove the derogatory remarks from my credit report. I have been a victim of identity theft and have informed all the credit bureaus, collections agencies, and credit card companies that these accounts are derogatory and do not belong to me. Someone used my personal information to open fraudulent charges under my name without my permission, consent, and knowledge. I have requested that the collection agencies, credit bureaus, and credit card companies send me debt validation documents regarding these fraudulent accounts, but they have not responded. I want these derogatory, fraudulent accounts removed from my credit bureau and never reported on my records. The collection companies are XXXX XXXX XXXX, credit card company XXXX XXXX, Jefferson Capital Syst, and the credit card company is XXXX XXXX.

Issue: Written notification about debt
Subissue: Didn't receive enough information to verify debt
Consumer Complaint: I received a notification from JEFFERSON CAPITAL SYSTEM stating that I owed a debt for a service I allegedly used from a company name XXXX. I requested the details of what this alleged debt was for and they refused to provide any information. I never received any notifications by mail or phone from XXXX notifying me of a debt. I reported this as fraud to both the collection agency and the original debtor. NEITHER companies would provide me with any information regarding the supposed debt. I verified my identity to both Jefferson Capital Systems and XXXX and was read back an email address that it not associated with me or anyone I know. I again reported this as fraud and have yet to receive any notifications. I disputed this with the XXXX and XXXX and the result of the dispute was a removal of the debt from my credit report by XXXX. Consumer Complaint: Jefferson Capital Systems sent me a payment offers letter dated XX/XX/, which I received on XX/XX/. This is the first notification I received from this company about an account that I supposedly owe. The company did NOT send me a validation letter/notice prior to this payment offers letter. I received no communication from this company prior to the payment offers letter. This is illegal. The company is required by law to send a validation letter first, before attempting to collect. This was absolutely not done. The company can not collect this debt, can not report this account to any credit reporting agencies and must cease all collection attempts.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt is not yours
Consumer Complaint: To Whom It May Concern, On XX/XX/XXXX, I received a collections letter from Jefferson Capital with reference number XXXX. This letter claims a debt originating from XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX account number XXXX, dated XX/XX/XXXX, in the amount of {XXXX}. I would like to state that I have no knowledge or record of this alleged debt. Furthermore, as per Section 16.004 of the Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code, the statute of limitations on debt in Texas is four years. Considering this, the mentioned debt is well beyond the allowable timeframe for collection. I am unclear about the origin of this debt and why I am being contacted regarding this matter. Please provide a detailed validation of this debt, and if it's determined to be inaccurate, kindly ensure that all records related to this claim are corrected or removed. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. I look forward to a swift resolution.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was paid
Consumer Complaint: Jefferson Capital bought debt from XXXX. It was charged off in XXXX of XXXX. I owed XXXX money after they shut off my phone in the middle of the pandemic. When I started working on improving my credit, suddenly Jefferson Capital is sending me mail constantly. I owed XXXX {$240.00}. Jefferson Capital sent me an offer for their Payment Rewards Program stating that if I paid {$150.00} within 6 months, they would cancel the remain balance. I paid the {$150.00}. Jefferson Capital immediately put the {$85.00} back on my credit report as a collection. I held up my end of the deal, and Jefferson Capital failed to do so.

Consumer Complaint: There are 4 paid collections on my report that do not reflect this change. There is another collections account for {$620.00} for an account I have no knowledge of. Of the 4 paid collections, one was represented by a XXXX XXXX XXXX in XXXX, NH. They told me they will never remove the information from my credit report even though the account was paid in full. The debt collectors say they worm for a lawyer but I never spoke to an attorney who should have advised me of my rights. I did not know about a court date either. But the account is paid in full. 4 of 5 collections are paid in full
