Issue: Written notification about debt
Subissue: Didn't receive enough information to verify debt
Consumer Complaint: I received multiple calls from Jefferson Capital to attempt an alleged debt. I never received any written information about disputing an alleged debt after initial communication via phone. I then took action to dispute the third party debt collection agency. I requested that Jefferson Capital to stop communication via phone by sending a Cease and Desist letter via certified mail. I also requested that the third party collection agency send me any information pertaining to the alleged debt. They received the certified mail on XX/XX/2021. I have yet to receive any documentation for the account. I received four additional phone calls after they received the Cease and Desist letter from Jefferson capital.

Consumer Complaint: This company Jefferson Capital has been coming after me for a debt in the amount of {$2000.00} Since XX/XX/2017 However they are not the legal owners of this debt and this debt was paid in full to the correct owners. I have submitted several disputes regarding this and have contacted this company directly. I was talked to very rudely and even hung up on which was very unprofessional. This company keeps harassing me with calls, letters and scare tactics.

Consumer Complaint: I contacted the collection agency to pay the amount due in Early XX/XX/XXXX. We came to an agreement that if I paid them they would update my credit report to show I paid. I did as they asked, they sent me a letter to show I was confirmed to be paid in full. They did not contact any of the three credit bureaus to update my credit to show paid in full. " Months '' went by I noticed not too long ago or currently that there still has been no update. I contacted the collection agency to ask what is going on with my account. The woman I spoke with told me they were not going to change my credit report update because I took too long to call them back about updating the credit report. I thought that I was paying them so that they would change to pay? She told me yes I'm paid in full, even sent me a new letter from their company stating I'm paid in full dated XX/XX/XXXX but told me they are not going to correct my credit report. I need help, I paid them and they still have me as a charge off on my credit report for ( XXXX XXXX/XXXX ), ( Jefferson capital systems , LLC. ).

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt is not yours
Consumer Complaint: I received a letter, dated XX/XX/XXXX, from JEFFERSON CAPITAL SYSTEMS , LLC ( JCS ) claiming that I owed a past due debt. No information was provided other than a dollar amount and a financial firm 's name - no description was offered, no date, and no other backup information of any kind. I know that I did not have any past debts, but I was concerned that someone had possibly incurred debt under my name. I therefore indicated that I disputed the debt and requested, by certified mail, that JCS provide information on the debt that they indicated I am entitled under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act ( FDCPA ) so that I could understand their basis for claiming that I owed a debt. In their second letter, dated XX/XX/XXXX, they did not provide any further information as I was entitled under the FDCPA and as I requested. Instead, they asked me to certify that my identity had been stolen. Prior to receiving the second letter, I had contact the financial institution who was the supposed holder of the original debt, and they indicated that my accounts had been closed with no balance and that I did not owe anything. I sent another letter with this information to JCS and again requested that provide me with information as required by the FDCPA such as : - A detailed explanation of the charge - The date of the charge and supposed default - Name of the charge-off creditor and account number - The name of any other debtor or creditor associated with the charge - The names of all entities that have purchased the debt - A copy of any and all contracts or documents evidencing my agreement to the debt In their third letter, dated XX/XX/XXXX, they again did not provide me any information at all to corroborate the supposed debt. Instead, they simply said that because my debt was too old that they were closing my file and would pursue no additional action. This reason is nonsensical because they must have known the age of the supposed debt before they sent their first letter ( even though they never provided that information to me ). Their refusal to provide any information whatsoever regarding this supposed debt and to dismiss it leads suggests that their closing of the case occurred because the debt was fabricated, and that JCS knows that the debt is fabricated. I believe this is why JCS refused to provide me with information that they are required to provide by the FDCPA.
