Issue: Closing an account
Subissue: Funds not received from closed account
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2023, I opened up 2 savings accounts and 1 checking account at Citibank. I did this because I wanted to switch banks to them because I liked the benefits. I definitely regret it. My old bank is XXXX XXXX, so when I opened the accounts, I transferred all of my money from XXXX XXXX to Citibank. Those amounts included : {$550.00} transferred to my checking account {$3500.00} transferred to one savings account {$400.00} transferred to the other savings account I also decided to set up direct deposit with my job, so a paycheck of {$1000.00} was also deposited into my checking account. The next day, when all of the funds arrived, I received a check from my old car loan company for the GAP coverage refund. I decided to deposit it in my new checking account. The amount of this check was {$840.00}. Citibank initially cashed it, saying that the new check was great. It even said the funds were available in my account. The next day, they marked the check for fraud. I immediately lost all access to my specific bank accounts. I couldn't see any money, nor open up the transactions page. All it said was " account blocked. '' So naturally, I called them and tried to figure it out, because my name is clearly on the check with my address. After jumping me around from representative to representative, I was told multiple things. I was first told that my account had been closed and that they were terminating our banking relationship. I thought that maybe it was a mistake, because the check wasn't fraudulent. I called again because I thought it was a mistake, and then was told that my account was under review by the fraud department and that I should wait. That put me at ease, and I ended up waiting longer. In the next few hours, they completely blocked all access to my account, I am not able to log in anymore. After being on the phone for another few hours and being bounced around, they told me our banking relationship is over and that I would be receiving my funds in the accounts 30-60 days from when my account was closed. And the account could close any time in the next 30 days, meaning I could be waiting for 90 days for my money back. This was ALL of my money at the time, and I had XXXX dollars to my name when the completely blocked me out. So I begged with them to help me figure it out, but they just kept informing me that our relationship was over and I would be receiving the funds soon. When I received the check in the mail today, 48 days later, I was honestly livid. The total that they believe was in my accounts at the time of closure was {$100.00}, when there was really {$6400.00}. In total I am missing {$6300.00} from Citibank.

Consumer Complaint: To Whom It May Concern, I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to follow up on an unresolved dispute with Citibank, associated with complaint ID : XXXX. Despite my repeated attempts, Citibank has failed to adequately address the issue, incorrectly asserting that the window for dispute has closed. I would like to bring to your attention the circumstances surrounding this dispute and the subsequent detrimental effects on my credit score. The dispute in question is related to a transaction made through XXXX, a company of XXXX XXXX XXXX. It has been acknowledged by the merchant that they did not forward my paid taxes to the state of Illinois, which subsequently necessitated my repayment. In writing, the merchant has requested that I initiate a dispute with my issuing bank, as they are unable to issue a direct refund since the funds have already left their coffers. However, my issuing bank has not only refused to honor my rights as stipulated by Regulation Z ( Billing Error Resolution ), but it has also charged me interest on the disputed amount. Furthermore, the bank has added a line item to my credit report indicating that I initiated and lost a dispute. These actions have had a severe and negative impact on my credit score and financial well-being. Therefore, I respectfully request the following actions be taken : 1. Reexamine Dispute XXXXXXXX : I urge the issuing bank to thoroughly reassess the details of the dispute. It is unrealistic and unfair for the bank to expect customers to possess knowledge beyond what the merchant displays as its name on its website. Therefore, the bank 's claim that I submitted the dispute with the wrong merchant is false and misleading. 2. Remove Accrued Interest : I kindly request the immediate removal of any accrued interest related to the disputed amount. Charging interest on an unresolved dispute only exacerbates the financial burden imposed upon me. 3. Remove Credit Reporting Line Item : I request that the line item added to my credit report, indicating that I initiated and lost a dispute, be promptly removed. This erroneous entry has significantly and unjustly impacted my credit score, hindering my financial opportunities. I emphasize the urgency of this matter and the detrimental consequences it has imposed upon me. I implore you to address these concerns promptly, rectify the credit reporting inaccuracies, and provide a fair resolution in accordance with the applicable regulations. I appreciate your attention to this matter and trust that you will take the necessary steps to resolve these issues in a timely and satisfactory manner. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Sincerely, XXXX XXXX

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I ordered a XXXX XXXX '' grddle advertised on XXXX through Wayfair for XXXX. Upon receiving my receipt I could tell this wasn't from Wayfair and didn't look right. There was a button on the receipt asking me to add my paypal account login info. I immediately tried to cancel to no avail. I then contacted Citi and instructed my card be cancelled due to a fraudulent transaction. Citi complied. I never received the griddle. They started an investigation which concluded on XX/XX/XXXX finding that because I ordered the griddle,, I was responsible fro the payment and charged my card. I immediately contacted CITI who said it shouldn't have been filed as a fraudulent transaction but rather a purchase dispute. They said they would proceed as such. On XX/XX/XXXX I recieved a letter that the investigation is close, there was no reimbursement. When I inquired, i was told because it was initially filed as a fraud complaint it couls not be re-opened. i have substantial screenshots showing this was a scam seller, screenshots of communications that I could never offer Citi. There guarantee of purchase protection is falsely promised. I am hoping CFPB can help me sunset this matter in a just manner.

Consumer Complaint: i had some checks that were mailed to pay bills, stolen from a mailbox, washed, and then cashed fraudulently by the thieves. This happened in XX/XX/2022 over a year ago, and i reported the issue soon thereafter. The checks were written on two different banks- my personal account and on my business account. My personal bank cleared up that check ( for {$8000.00} ) last XXXX, 2022 and i was reimbursed for the total amount. the other check ( {$3000.00} ) is still outstanding. My business bank evidently is not able to get any response from the bank that mistakenly cashed that check. I believe that bank is responsible for the fraud and their error, and that they should reimburse me.

Consumer Complaint: I have had a poor experience the last few days trying to get a credit card replacement from Citi with my premium XXXX card. I called yesterday to report unauthorized activity on my card by the large XXXX train company XXXX XXXX ( this has happened before with Citi. Maybe Citi would like to find out why and put a block on them charging my cards?? ). I told Citi yesterday I would call them back with my address for the next few days in XXXX and that they would then mail me the card. I called today. The first person I could barely hear and had a terrible attitude. She had me on speaker and wanted to verify everything I already verified yesterday. The second person was nicer, I could hear, but clearly lacked training. After reading her the entire address she then said the system was not letting her send to me. She put me on hold again and then said the system would not let her send to XXXX as XXXX do not go there. XXXX do go to XXXX or you can send XXXX She said it could take 3 weeks to get a card to XXXX. I have never heard such ridiculous things. I then requested to speak to her supervisor and she put me on hold and then call was disconnected. We know what that means. Why was I not called back? Do Citi not call customers back that are disconnected? The expectation is I keep calling back until I get someone competent? I need to have more competent service and the card sent to me as I was told it would be yesterday on the recorded Call. Please send to the exact address below and I need to receive by Thursday night. Thank you. XXXX XXXX. XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX

Consumer Complaint: I was contacted by Citi today regarding a previous issue that has been reported. We were unknowingly signed up for estatements. We don't do estatements never have and never will. Why? Because those will go often into junk email and will get overlooked or automatically deleted. Citibank states we signed up for estatements in XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX. Neither my wife nor I signed up KNOWINGLY. They claim they sent an email indicating that we were signed up, again, if we UNKNOWINGLY signed up, we would never see that email because it would-likely go into JUNK email. We missed a single payment because of this. Did Citibank send out a letter indicating that we had missed the payment? They did now. Did they send out a letter asking if we meant to sign up for estatements? They did now. Sending an email that wouldn't get read is not doing their due diligence. What's more, they claim they made 10 calls to my cell phone to try and let us know about the late payment. This is the first time they have stated this. If they did ( and I have no missed calls from them. I have attached a call log for my phone that they " reached out '' to me. I have no messages from anyone at Citibank ( and the woman I spoke with today did not indicate WHY they would not leave a message which other credit card companies DO. I doubt that they called. Here is my call logs going back a month ) I am more than willing to provide Citi with a copy of voicemails left if Citi and CFPB would like to have them. There are NO MESSAGES from Citi and I have only 1 phone call that I received from them when it was 30 days past due. Citi should also have reached out by mail and should automatically do that whenever there is a problem reaching a customer. It's the right thing to do and they didn't do it. The lady I spoke with today had no reason why they wouldn't do that either. I had also indicated that, if we unknowingly had signed up for estatements ( and I don't believe we did-I personally believe that the department that handles that had someone in house do it for folks because they are being incentivized for it like many companies are ).
