Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/XXXX, I received a {$25.00} " Birthday Reward '' voucher from Capital One/ XXXX XXXX, good for {$25.00} off purchases made by XXXX XXXX, XXXX. I made two purchases totaling {$37.00} by XXXX XXXX, XXXX. I called Capital One for an hour in XX/XX/XXXX and was handed from one department to another, finally winding up in XXXX, XXXX. No resolution. I closed my account that day, effective immediately. On XXXX XXXX, XXXX, I wrote a dispute letter to Capital One ( a post office box in XXXX XXXX XXXX ). Through XX/XX/XXXX, I've received no response. On XXXX XXXX, XXXX, I scheduled a {$12.00} payment to Capital One for a XXXX XXXX, XXXX due date, representing {$37.00} minus the {$25.00} offer the two parties failed to honor. On XXXX XXXX, XXXX, Capital One charged me a {$29.00} " past due fee '' ( the {$12.00} payment on XXXX XXXX, XXXX did not meet Capital One 's minimum ) plus {$0.00} in interest. XXXX ( XX/XX/XXXX ) I spent more than XXXX minutes being bounced from the XXXX to the XXXX by Capital One, before finally being sent to a XXXX help line, which wasn't helpful. It was apparent, the customer service representative just wanted to bounce me to another desk, not resolve the dispute. Not would anyone today even acknowledge receipt of my XXXX XXXX, XXXX letter of dispute. This was consumer misrepresentation. Capital One/XXXX XXXX sent an offer that they failed to honor.

Subissue: Banking errors
Consumer Complaint: Capital One Bank lost {$990.00} and refuses to locate where the {$990.00} went to. Capital One already admitted in a previous complaint they screwed up and will not take any accountability for their employee errors when one of their Associates told me they could " cancel '' the XXXX transaction. HOWEVER, LISTEN UP " XXXX '' with NO Last name that responded cowardly to my previous complaint without a chance to refute the erroneous information, I AM NOT interested in your corporate blah, blah, blah speak about your internal policies or how you do not hold the Bank accountable for employee mistakes to suite your own favor. I am only interested in Capital One locating where the {$990.00} went to after it left my bank account because the intended receiving party ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ) did NOT receive this money. One of your banking associates specifically said to me that the {$990.00} was " SENT '' but " NOT DELIVERED ''. So where did the {$990.00} go XXXX XXXX? Find It and Return it!!!!!!!!!!

Issue: Problem when making payments
Subissue: You never received your bill or did not know a payment was due
Consumer Complaint: I have an XXXX credit card that was through XXXXXXXX XXXX I had updated my mailing addr with them several times. I had auto-payment set up for my bills so that they would never be late and wasn't a card that I used very often. I had e-statements turned on as I've had several issues with not getting mail. XXXX changed from XXXXXXXX XXXX to Capital One but I didn't receive that information from XXXX or Capital One. I'm not sure exactly when the switch occurred but looks like in XX/XX/XXXX. I found out in XX/XX/XXXX from my mortgage lender when they pulled my credit for a pre-approval letter. I previously had a score of over 800 and when it was pulled it was in the 620 range. I thought it was an error since I didn't even have a CapitalOne account and found out that it was my XXXX credit card. I never received any of the information on the switch or the new card and so it was never activated. I'm assuming the statements were returned as well as I never received them. They didn't transfer over my auto bill payment, didn't retain my e-statement preference, didn't try to call ( or text with a payment reminder ) and didn't try to email even though they had my cell phone number and email. They said that XXXX XXXX gave them a wrong mailing addr. Due to that, I was charged late fees each month ( XXXX, XXXX, XXXX ) and it was reported to the credit bureaus. Since I never received the information, there was no way for me to know that there were any payments that were late or any way to have even made the payments since I didn't know who held that card ( or that it changed ). After I found out what had happened ( XX/XX/XXXX ), I asked how to dispute it and was told that I'd have to wait to get a replacement card to get the acct number so that I could dispute it. It took them another month ( and several calls ) for me to receive a replacement card ( XX/XX/XXXX ). Their dispute process is done through the mail ( which is clearly not secure at all ) and requires a lot of sensitive information ( name, acct #, SSN, DOB, addr ) instead of using a secured server. They then couldn't even tell me if they received it for their review period of 30 days. XXXX XX/XX/XXXX, I receive their decision which was that they weren't going to do anything to remove the late fees ( other than XXXX, they did remove the late fee for XXXX ) and weren't going to remove the late payment information from their system or the credit bureaus ( which is what I need the most to buy a house ). They have access to look at my payment history with XXXXXXXX XXXX which is spotless and all of my other payment history is spotless as well. Hopefully when other companies do this type of switch, they would say who they are switching to and if you don't hear anything by a particular date to contact whomever and give contact information as XXXX didn't do that.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2023 I contacted Capital One, address : XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX, UT XXXX to advise Capital One that a transaction between myself and XXXX was no longer authorized after XXXX failed to provide a valid way in which to contact them to cancel a 30 day free subscription whereby Capital One credit card was given to XXXX, ending XXXX in the name of XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX NM XXXX. The Capital One employee who I spoke with, only identified as employee XXXX assured me that no charges would be allowed by XXXX and that I had nothing to worry about. The Capital One statement for XX/XX/2023 was received [ by mail ] with charges by XXXX in the amounts of {$26.00} ; {$100.00} ; and {$92.00} were applied to the small balance of {$380.00}! Capital One took action and a dispute against XXXX and issued me " temporary '' credits pending a response by XXXX. They've since rescinded the credits to my account after assuring me that XXXX would not charge any amounts to the card. Not only is this a bad business practice but they allowed unauthorized charges against my card and should be held responsible for crediting the amounts themselves.

Consumer Complaint: I received a call from Capitol One Credit Card Company at XXXX on XXXX XX/XX/2023 at XXXX XXXX telling me there was an application submitted online for me. I did not make this inquiry nor did I fill out an application for a Capitol One credit card on the date specified. I notified the company this was a case of fraud and they annotated the application as such. I then called all three credit reporting agencies and had a credit freeze placed on my account. I continued my efforts by calling XXXX to dispute the hard hit on my credit report and was told to submit this report.
