Issue: Closing your account
Subissue: Company closed your account
Consumer Complaint: This particular issue has not yet been brought to the attention of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ( CFPB ). Unlike my prior attempts, which were swiftly concluded with the inaccurate assertion that " The CFPB has dismissed this complaint due to its prior handling of your grievances regarding this matter, '' it's essential to clarify that this is an entirely novel concern necessitating resolution. It is evident that this issue is distinct from any previous problems and warrants a thorough and separate examination. Your prompt and accurate attention to this new matter is greatly appreciated. Capital One 's decision to close all four of my credit card accounts was based on the occurrence of returned payments on three out of the four accounts. I promptly rectified the situation on my own, addressing the issue without delay. It is important to emphasize that prior to this incident, I had maintained a flawless payment history and had never missed a payment. Despite these facts, I find it perplexing that Capital One has taken such drastic measures without providing any form of communication, whether through phone calls, emails, or notifications. In my interaction with a customer service representative, I was informed that there seemed to be no avenue for recourse in this matter. I was advised to direct my concerns to the general correspondence department, an action I have already taken. Regrettably, even after following the prescribed course of action, I have not received any acknowledgment or response from Capital One. Given these circumstances, I implore Capital One to reevaluate its stance on this issue. It is evident that my immediate correction of the returned payments demonstrates my commitment to responsible financial management. I am left feeling both perplexed and unsupported due to the lack of communication and avenues for resolution. I respectfully request a comprehensive review of this situation and a timely response to rectify this matter. Your prompt attention to this issue would greatly alleviate my concerns and help restore my confidence in Capital One 's customer service.

Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Problem getting a working replacement card
Consumer Complaint: This is an update to CFPB complaints XXXX ( submitted XXXX ) ( Complaint 1 ) and XXXX ( submitted XXXX ) ( Complaint 2 ). Despite numerous contacts with Capital One and two previous CFPB complaints, as of today XX/XX/XXXX there has been no satisfactory resolution of this matter. I am an elderly person currently staying in XXXX XXXX XXXX to receive medical treatment for several ongoing health conditions. Since my arrival in XXXX last year I have relied on my Capital One Venture Visa Card # XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX to pay for medical treatment and other expenses. I routinely charge several thousands of dollars per month on this card. The card expired on XX/XX/XXXX. Due to the upcoming card expiration, on XXXX I requested that Capital One send me a replacement Venture Visa Card in XXXX ( see attachment 1 ). On XX/XX/XXXX I received an email from Capital One stating that " a shiny new card is on the way '' and " should arrive by XX/XX/XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX '' ( see attachment 2 ). Capital One further confirmed to me by phone that the replacement card was shipped to me by XXXXXXXX XXXX. I made multiple requests to Capital One for a tracking number for this shipment but Capital One refused to provide this information. Because no card was received by the due date, I filed Complaint 1 on XX/XX/XXXX. OXXXX XXXX Capital One responded to Complaint 1 stating that " your replacement card was mailed out on XX/XX/XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX and should be received " within 7 to 14 business days ''. This response also stated " we do not have a tracking number for your card ''. See attachment 3. As of today one month later no replacement card has not been received. I have been forced to make multiple trips to the local XXXX office to inquire about this card. Each trip requires a lengthy transit time followed by standing outside in line under hot sun for an extended period. This is extremely difficult due to my ill health. In response to my inquiries XXXX has stated that no shipment to me has been received and no further information can be provided without a tracking number for the shipment. At this point due to the negligence of Capital One I have no active credit card and therefore am unable to pay my medical and other expenses in XXXX. As a result I am suffering from extreme inconvenience, hardship, illness and emotional distress. Further, Capital One 's admitted failure to obtain tracking information for shipment of a credit card to a foreign country is a gross breach of the most basic financial security standards. If the replacement card was shipped as Capital One claims it has most likely been stolen by now, adding greatly to my stress. Thank you very much for your prompt attention to this matter. XXXX XXXX XXXX

Consumer Complaint: I have been facing difficulties in obtaining credit due to a previous fraud alert on my account. I contacted all three credit bureaus on XX/XX/2023 and requested them to remove the alert. However, when I applied for a line of credit with Capital One on XX/XX/2023, they rejected me by telephone conversation saying that they could not access my file. I called the bureaus again and they assured me that there was no problem with my account.

Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Sent card you never applied for
Consumer Complaint: I have had a Kohl 's Store card for many years and used it to make occasional purchases, always keeping my balance below {$500.00}, preferablly at at {$0.00} balance. I liked the rewards and coupons that I could access and that is why I kept the account. Back in XX/XX/2023, I was notified that my account was selected for a conversion to a Capital One Visa card. I looked for an opt out process among the fine print and could no t find one. I asked friends and family with Kohl 's cards if they had gotten this and they had not. It was a busy time for me at work and I lost track of it. I made a small purchase using my Kohl 's account before the conversion. When I we nt to pay the online on XX/XX/XXXX, the date that it was due, I discovered that my Kohl 's account was no longer active. I called Kohl 's and they referred me to Capital One. I spoke to a representative there and was told I had to pay the bill through Capital One instead. When I tried to pay the bill, I discoverd that I would incur a late fee because it was after hours and would post the next day. This was not the practice with the Kohl 's card. I was able to speak to someone at Capital One today and they will waive the late fee, however it will take 3-5 business days to show on the account which means I need to pay the late fee in order to avoid another late fee, and will then receive a credit which is another hassle. I am extremely frustrated. I never asked for nor approved for a Capital One Visa card to be issued in my name. I only keep one major credit card and I don't want this card, especially since it has an interest rate of 30 %. I don't know who in their right mind would open a credit card with a 30 % interest rate! This has been a waste of my time dealing with all of this and having to keep making calls to resolve. I am concerned about how it will impact my credit if I now close the card which will be more work on my part having to call and cancel it. Does a credit card company have the right to issue a card in my name without my permission? This does not seem legal. I am looking for guidance with how to resolve this.

Consumer Complaint: CapitalOne Quicksilver credit card advertised {$200.00} bonus if you spent {$500.00} in 3 months I applied and was approved. There was nothing I saw that was different and I was approved immediately. My card was opened in XX/XX/2022 and by XXXX I had already spent over the {$500.00}. After the 3 month period in about XXXX I realized I had not received my bonus. I called the company and was told the card I got was not the one with a bonus. Its got the same name and everything else, there was no way for me to know it was a different card. I was never given any options to decline the card due to it being different. I feel this was a bait and switch scheme and tried speaking to a supervisor but was told there was nothing they could do. I am still upset over this and havent done anything else simply because I havent know what to do until I found this site.

Consumer Complaint: I have had three cards from capital one a Walmart rewards card with a {$1300.00} limit, a capital one venture card with a {$7000.00} limit, and even my Kohls card because capital one merged with them with a {$5000.00} limit all closed or restricted without warning or explanation. The letter I received said because they observed activity on my account that is not consistent with their expectations of usage for personal family or household purposes. Please stop using this account immediately and destroy all cards and checks associated with it. And at the bottom, it says equal credit, opportunity act. that was for my Kohls card the letters for my Walmart rewards and my venture just literally stated equal credit opportunity act thats it. oh not to mention, Ive never missed a payment. I had to returned payments because I paid them early.
