Issue: Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers
Subissue: Confusing or misleading advertising about the credit card
Consumer Complaint: I had a Capital One Quicksilver card with considerable cash back built up - approximately {$1700.00}. On XX/XX/2023, I was on the Quicksilver App when I noticed that I was eligible to upgrade to the Capital One Venture card. I had been looking for a travel credit card, so I did so. Part of the reason I chose the Venture card was the advertising for XXXX bonus miles. On XX/XX/2023, I found out that Capital One would not honor the bonus miles as I was an " upgrading '' customer and not a new customer. I also found out that Capital One converted my {$1700.00} in cash-back to " miles '' that now have a cash value of only {$890.00}. In a span of two days, I Capital One essentially stole {$890.00} of my cash-back that I had accumulated over six years, and also refused to honor the bonus miles for the Capital One Venture card that is on all of their promotional materials. I tried calling Capital One about this matter, but they claimed they would not change my card back to Quicksilver and restore my cash-back, and they also refused to provide the bonus miles. There was no clear warning in the App when I " upgraded '' the card that I would lose my Quicksilver cash-back and that I would not qualify for the bonus miles. Capital One customer service claimed they could not do anything to make this issue right. Had I known I would lose the cash-back I had already accrued and that I would not get the promotional bonus miles, I NEVER would have " upgraded '' to the Venture card.

My credit report has an active fraud alert and is frozen/locked. Access to my credit file requires verbal approval to protect my identity. Additionally, I have opted out of pre-approved promotional offers.

Consumer Complaint: Capital One unilaterally cancelled my long standing credit card line with them without any notice for non-use during the Covid crisis. I contacted them several times, telling them that if they cancel my credit card, then I did not wish to do any further business with them, and to accordingly remove me from their system. The first time I requested so was about 3 years ago when they cancelled my credit card, then more recently a few months ago. They have still not removed me as a customer despite assurances last time I spoke with a representative. Rather, for example, they continue to send me e-mails requesting my number to opt into text messaging. I do not wish to have any future business with this company anymore, and they will not remove me from their system. It should not be that difficult to request a complete removal of my account/information from their system.
