Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Application denied
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2023, I applied for a Capital One Spark Business Card. I was approved with a {$5000.00} limit ( card ending in XXXX regarding XXXX ) and sent a welcome letter. I was immediately provided a secured link requesting a driver 's license, proof of residence, and social security card, all of which I submitted at that moment. I was asked for this information several times, each time submitted through a link I received from Capital One- After a few days of this, I needed clarification from Captial One, and they explained that my identity could not be verified. Before this notification, the card had arrived at my office. I linked it to my existing Capital One profile ( which has two other Capital One products ), which made this decision even more strange. I asked the reason and was given the same answer : unable to verify. I wanted to know what I should do with the card I had in my possession. " Do what you want to do, as the account was locked, '' was their response. It was suggested to reapply, which I did, and was approved again. Once again, I was asked to provide the same docs. I requested a fax number this time. I visited a XXXX location scanned and faxed the docs to XXXX. Days later, in early XXXX, while driving, I received a phone call from the Capital One Fraud team requesting my driver 's license via a secure link. I pulled over and scanned the DL. I was approved, but this approval was for only {$500.00} ( card ending in XXXX ). In my reapplying, I was under the expectation that starting the process over was to reopen the application that the fraud team locked. I diligently provided document after document just to be told no, apply again, and get a lower limit when, all the while, I was feeding the same info and took hits to my credit report. The initial card with the {$5000.00} limit shows open on my credit report and its inquiry, but they can't verify my identity?

Issue: Closing your account
Subissue: Can't close your account
Consumer Complaint: I applied for a Pottery Barn/Capital One Visa Key Reward card via online application. Two accounts were opened in error by Capital One. I called to close one of the accounts. The first representative was not authorized to close the account. To confirm there were no other accounts opened she requested my full SSN to do a manual search. She then forwarded me to another account specialist. The second representative requested my gov issued photo id. I refused as I had no validation that the first rep hadn't sent me to some other fraudulent company. With my SSN and my photo id my identity could have easily been stolen. I refused to provide the id but offered to provide any other information to complete the validation. She told me there was nothing she could do and that the account would not be able to be closed. I requested to speak with a manager. I was forwarded to a manager who ultimately closed the account. Capital One should not a ) make it this difficult to close an account, and b ) should not require information that can be used to steal someones identity as verification.

Consumer Complaint: Capital One advertises two complimentary lounge visits per year as a benefit of the Capital One Venture Rewards card. However, nowhere on the website there is an explanation of how to actually use this benefit. I called Capital One on XX/XX/2023 and was told that, in order to use this benefit, I should use the Capital One Venture card to pay for admission to one of the partner lounges listed on the website, and I would then get a statement credit. On XX/XX/2023 I visited the XXXX XXXX at XXXX XXXX at XXXX airport ( XXXX ), which is listed on the partner lounge list. I paid with the Capital One card ( they would not let me in otherwise ) and was charged {$53.00}. I just received my card statement dated XX/XX/2023 and there is no statement credit. I called Capital One on XX/XX/2023 at XXXX XXXX and spoke with three different people, including a " supervisor '' and a " benefit specialist ''. All sounded completely unfamiliar with this benefit, and kept insisting that I was not entitled to a credit because I don't have a Venture X card. I repeatedly directed them to the Capital One website, where things are clearly spelled out ( the XXXX XXXX XXXX page clearly states : Eligible Venture X cardholders get unlimited complimentary access for you and two guests, while eligible Venture & Spark Miles cardholders enjoy two complimentary visits per year - see screenshot ), to no avail. Overall I was on the phone for 51 minutes for nothing, because they refused to refund me. Capital One failed to provide a promised benefit, which is not surprising since the company is deliberately vague about how to use it. Moreover, forcing customers to nearly hour-long phone calls in order to receive a promised benefit is a major deterrent to utilizing those benefits.
