Issue: Closing your account
Subissue: Can't close your account
Consumer Complaint: My XXXX XXXX credit card was closed out and paid in full on XX/XX/XXXX. Around the end of XX/XX/XXXX I got a call saying I owed {$60.00} in interest to XXXX bank that accrued after I closed out the account. On XX/XX/XXXX I spoke to a supervisor and explained that my account was getting charged after it was already closed out and it was affecting my credit score. He said theres no way it could affect my credit score because the account is closed out but I do owe an interest. So I stated again that I had already closed my account out back in XXXX and paid in full, the supervisor agreed and said that he zeroed out my account and closed it out. About last week I was applying for a home and couldnt get applied for it because my XXXX XXXX credit card from Comenity bank kept having unresolved issues and now has XXXX dollars on it.

Consumer Complaint: My Torrid card was used in XX/XX/2023 for an amount of {$88.00}. This charge appeared on my XX/XX/2023 statement due XX/XX/XXXX. The payment was made in full on time and the account was subsequently closed. I received by both email and US Mail a letter stating the account had been closed and had a XXXX balance. A few days later, I received another statement with a {$28.00} balance. After reviewing the statement, it showed they charged a late fee on XX/XX/XXXX, yet I had a letter dated XX/XX/XXXX that the account balance was XXXX. I assumed this was some sort of glitch until this month ( XXXX ), I received another bill now totaling {$57.00}. Again, after reviewing, it was noticed that another {$28.00} late fee had been charged and {$1.00} " minimum interest '' ( interest on a late fee and a late fee on a late fee on a XXXX balance ). At this point I placed a call about this and was told they didn't apply my payment until XX/XX/XXXX and this set off the cycle of fees and interest. I was also told that none of this could be reversed because the account was closed so I either pay the fees and interest or it will be reflected as late paid on my credit bureaus. This sounds like extortion to me. Again, I have a letter dated XX/XX/XXXX from them that stated I have a XXXX balance and the account was closed. How can I have a letter dated XX/XX/XXXX showing a XXXX balance if a fee was charged XX/XX/XXXX?

Consumer Complaint: I paid off my balance and closed my accounts 3 weeks early ( XX/XX/2023 ). I see I was charge additional interest fees and when I tried to resolve this with Comenity bank, I was advised that they will not waive those fees. When I did not accept that answer and wanted to speak to a manager, I was hung up on several times and every single person I spoke with only further escalated the issue. They spoke down to me, talked over me, said things like, " the more you speak, the slower I work '' and each and every one of them refused to let me speak to someone higher than that person. They kept saying they would transfer me to a manager only to pass me around to their colleagues. My last interaction one again hung up on me when I asked to speak to their manager and not a colleague for the 4th time. It has cost this company more to speak with me about the finance charges than it would have been to credit them. I have never been treated this way by any company and since there is no other way to report this abuse, I am left no choice but to report it here and with the XXXX ( which I will do after this ).

Consumer Complaint: My recent experience was just repugnant, unacceptable in paying off my balance. In XXXX, I paid off the remaining balance on my XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX account ( XXXX ). In XXXX, I received a bill from XXXX XXXX XXXX for XXXX dollar. I called and was told that there were interest rates carried over from two months ago, leaving a charge of XXXX dollar. Never in my 50 years dealing with banks and credit cards has a charge been issued after the balance was paid in full. On top of that, the way I was treated and hung up on by two different customer service agents was very disturbing. I do not know what your script is as a Comenity Bank card, Bread Financial, it was very distasteful, making me feel, I was abused for close to two hours and getting nowhere on the understanding of XXXX dollar interest rate ( fees charged ) was still on my bill after the pay-off. So, I investigated it. Yes, Comenity Bank charged me XXXX dollar for the missing interest, for which THEY did not calculate. Not only that, but they also did not even address it correctly. On my XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX bill, XXXX dollar is added to the " Fees charged '' not the interest charged, with no explanation. ( Fees charged XXXX XXXX charged XXXX ) The reason for this is Comenity Bank can charge you interest on that dollar if you do not pay it under Fees charged. If it were under the correct title, ( interest charged ) that dollar would just sit there forever because the financial institution can not charge you interest on interest ..... So, Comenity Bank not only charged me a dollar, but they can illegally keep charging me interest and late fees on top of that expensive dollar. This one-dollar issue needs the CFPB, as well as a XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX I am sure millions of others, have the same issue!!

Issue: Managing an account
Subissue: Problem making or receiving payments
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/23 I tried to make tax payments from my account at Bread Financial ( Comenity bank ) for Federal taxes, New York State taxes, and California state taxes. I checked back daily to my bank account to see when the payments were made, but nothing happened. I got no notice that any payment was rejected, or that is was pending for any reason. The payments were never made from my account. I still as of XX/XX/23 have no notice of why the tax payments were not made or were rejected. I called Bread Financial on XX/XX/XXXX in order to research the issue. The customer service rep could not tell me anything, then put me on hold for 15 minutes and hung up on me. Because the payments were never made I will likely be charged late fees and interest from Federal and state tax authorities. The only record I have of the payments being rejected is from the IRS and state tax authorities. There is nothing on Bread/Comenity 's website that says that they will reject tax payments, and no explanation as to why I couldn't have used this account to pay my taxes.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: This nightmare all started in XXXX of XXXX. I called to request XXXX XXXX to close my account after paying it to zero ; however, it took until XX/XX/XXXX after many phone calls and letters for them to do so. I also called Comenity Bank to inform them that I had closed my XXXX account at the same time. A membership fee of {$21.00} had been added to my XXXX account after XXXX was told to cancel the account and it took them until XXXX XXXX, XXXX to credit my account back ( I have confirmation of all of this in writing from XXXX ). The complaint is that Comenity Bank continued to keep the credit card open adding late fees to a balance that went from {$21.00}, the amount that XXXX finally reversed, every month, even after I called and mailed them a letter to again CLOSE the account and reverse any undue fees. I received a letter from Comenity Bank yesterday, dated XX/XX/XXXX, stating that they credited my old card {$21.00}, which is what XXXX had reversed. Once I sent my dispute letter in writing I received a letter from Comenity telling me that my dispute ( this letter is dated XX/XX/XXXX ) was being researched and would take 90 days to complete! I kept getting letters from them saying they were working on it ; however, all they were working on was adding more fees to the {$21.00} membership fee that XXXX has added in error. Now I get harrassing calls from Comenity Bank Card to pay the balance! The right thing for Comenity to do is reverse the fees but they said they can't now that they have closed the card. What a scam! Please help me resolve this matter. Thanks so much! XXXX XXXX

Issue: Incorrect information on your report
Subissue: Account information incorrect
Consumer Complaint: I opened account with Comenity/Kay in XX/XX/XXXX. I'd paid the bill directly at the store location to ensure immediate payment. I paid {$150.00} and {$300.00} in XX/XX/XXXX. I paid {$400.00} in XX/XX/XXXX. I paid {$270.00} in XX/XX/XXXX. Each occurrence, I'd asked the teller to put minimum payments on the following months. In XX/XX/XXXX during a credit check, I was very surprised when I noticed that there had been late payments being reported for XXXX & XX/XX/XXXX. I reached out via call and sent letter pleading with company to remove these late payments as I made sure not only to be on time, but to be ahead. They informed me that my extra payments were only entered for one month at a time even though the store representatives ensured me of my payments processing. I paid the account in full XX/XX/XXXX, 9 months ahead of scheduled. These incorrect late payments have impacted my credit tremendously. It will help in a major way to have these late payments removed from my credit report.
