Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Card opened without my consent or knowledge
Consumer Complaint: First of all, B of A processed two successive fraudulent applications in successive weeks that were submitted using my PII for a XXXX XXXX XXXX credit card. The bank queried my credit but did not receive a response from the credit bureau because I have my credit locked. The bank then emailed me a request to unlock my credit file so they can process the accounts which prompted me to report both attempts to B of A as fraud. If B of A is aware that someone is fraudulently attempting to open accounts in my name multiple times, why do they continue to process them? Poor controls?

Issue: Trouble using your card
Subissue: Can't use card to make purchases
Consumer Complaint: I applied for and was approved for a Bank of America Preferred Rewards credit card around XXXX XXXX, 2023. After receiving the card, I made some minor online purchases and also did some shopping in a nearby city on XXXX XXXX without any problems. However, after charging less than {$900.00} total a {$230.00} grocery purchase at XXXX was abruptly declined, and the card has been unusable ever since. Instead of asking me to verify the unspecified " unusual activity '' on my card as would be the normal practice, it and my account have just been totally blocked. I subsequently talked over the phone with two representatives and two supervisors in BOA 's fraud department, but none of them could explain coherently what the problem was, and they all ludicrously advised that the only way I could get my account functioning again would be to fly some XXXX miles to the mainland and visit a Bank of America branch there in person ( BOA has no branches in Hawaii ). I could just cancel this card in disgust, but I'm already on the hook for the {$95.00} annual fee and would have to forego the promised generous sign-up bonus, which was the main reason I sought this particular credit card in the first place. Applying for a replacement card from another issuer would also likely negatively affect my credit score.

Subissue: Deposits and withdrawals
Consumer Complaint: I opened a checking account at Bank of America for about XXXX weeks. I couldn't log in to my online banking. So I called the Bank of America verification department to ask what the problem was, but no one from the customer service staff to the director or manager told me that my account was out of date. What's the problem? They made me feel like they were playing a trick on me when they were on the phone. I got a bounced check and wanted to know what it was because I never deposited the check. Bank of America didn't care. They only answered my question that my account had been closed, so I had never deposited a check. They didn't even ask or check who deposited the check, so they closed my account. This made me feel very helpless. I had been doing this every day before. I called them all to find out what was going on with my account, as they had never paid any attention to it.

I have been home for 2 yrs now o have been fighting to to get information removed with these companies I have submitted verification of ID theft reports, XXXX documentation, proof of address, Drivers license and utility bills proving the state I live in and the reports are still showing this information some will come off and a few months latter they are back on my credit profile. Also once I disputed these items and the place the back when the original dates may have stated it will remove at a certain date and year but when I dispute it the credit bureau reports it back for another XXXX to 5 years to be removed. Which makes the account way past the statue of limitations law for credit reporting even though the accounts are not mine and fraudulent.

Consumer Complaint: I goofed! I over paid my monthly credit card bill tremendously. Instead of {$6100.00} I paid {$61000.00}. An overpayment of {$55000.00}!!!!!! I requested a refund and B of A agreed to send {$55000.00} back to my checking account. But they have not done so. This is a B of A credit card and a B of A checking account. It has already been XXXX days and they are telling me it can take up to another XXXX days. If I owed them {$55000.00}, they would certainly charge me interest. But they are holding onto my money for much longer than is reasonable .....
