Issue: Trouble using your card
Subissue: Can't use card to make purchases
Consumer Complaint: BofA has an overly aggressive security system. It has been declining charges that are regularly recurring monthly charges, as well as one-time charges. I have sent BofA letters on XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX, all without correction of the problem. I did receive XXXX e-mail that stated that BofA was " investigating my dispute '', but nothing else. I am self-employed and use this card for business. For the entire month of XXXX, XXXX, BofA has been denying a regularly recurring charge for XXXX, which has my website and generates business for me. XXXX threatened me with account closure on XX/XX/XXXX for non-payment, so I paid the balance due today with another credit card. When I changed the payment method, XXXX said that BofA has closed my account. BofA has not notified me of the account 's closure, and has no valid reason for closing my account. When I call BofA, the Security Dept rep says that the account can not be accessed by the rep unless the rep can text a code to my telephone number on file. My telephone number on file is the landline for my business- it can not receive text messages. So I can not tell the rep what the code is, and the rep says that he/she can not access my account. It is a vicious and ridiculous cycle. The telephone reps sound like robots, and state that it will not do any good to speak with a supervisor because BofA will not allow a supervisor to access my account either. The only remedy they can come up with is to go into a branch. We do not have a BofA branch in my county, and the reps tell me that BofA will not reimburse me for 4 hour ( roundtrip ) to another county just to go into a branch to prove my identity.

Consumer Complaint: I accepted an online promotion from Bank of America Unlimited Business Cash Rewards for a {$300.00} statement credit after expending {$3000.00} in 3 months. After expending the {$3000.00} in less than 3 month, I never received the statement credit, now they said that the promotion was {$500.00} for {$5000.00} expended. I'm sure that I'm on the right because I took notes about it, just to remember by when I'm supposed to expend the {$3000.00}. I don't have any screen shots of the promotion, but there should be a record of the promotions that they are running at a particular time. I filled the online application on XX/XX/, I received the card and activated it on XX/XX/22.

Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Card opened as result of identity theft or fraud
Consumer Complaint: I received a fraud alert on XXXX by XXXX asking me to contact Bank of America. I contacted Bank of America, and they said there was nothing on record. Days later I received a 'welcome to the neighborhood '' email from Bank of America XXXX Someone had opened a credit card with my old name and address. I immediately contacted Bank of America, who proceeded to give me the runaround for almost 3 months. They eventually closed the card, but took months to report it back as fraud to the credit bureau and have since sent forms and letters to all of my wrong addresses with wrong names. I put a freeze on my credit, but the way that Bank of America has handled this has been dreadful. I have had XXXX managers involved and they still couldn't get my name and address correct on their records. They assure me it has now been rectified, but I still have no confirmation. Bank of America should be ashamed of themselves.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2023 You bank employee guaranteed me my {$3700.00} check would be available the next day. We asked her very specifically as we could have gone down the street to cash the check..she promised us. I went home to pay every single bill I could imagine. Hours later I got a message Bank of America would be holding my funds for 2 WEEKS! I had to go and get loans out to cover the bills I had paid while trusting the banks word. I called the CS line to speak to a manager, they refused me that right and said no one could help me. I went to the bank and XXXX the most untrained unapologetic and unintelligent manager did not even let me speak, instead kept yelling at me why I hadn't read out agreement from 15 years ago and that it was my own fault my funds were not available. I cried in their lobby and then decided to ask for the district manager number. This trash of employee gave me a FAKE NUMBER to call and told me to get out of her bank. Not only was she visually hideous, her personality matched

Consumer Complaint: I received a chain of emails starting at XXXX XXXX while I was asleep from Bank of America to verify my email address to ensure that I receive all communications from the bank. Less than a minute later, another email was sent from Bank of America to inform me that I was enrolled in Online and Mobile Banking. And in a matter of 8 minutes interval two separate emails were sent sent from Bank of America informing that my online application for an Advantage SafeBalance Banking Account is in progress. Then the last two emails which were sent a few minutes later were to inform that the applications were approved and the new accounts were open. Considering that these events happened at night, I saw the emails in the morning and immediately contacted Bank of America to report the activities as fraudulent as I have not initiated any of them ; however the first customer service representative I spoke to was not diligent enough to transfer me to the correct department and advised that I didn't have any bank accounts open with Bank of America by verifying my SSN and other personal information. She also couldn't explain why I receive the emails and that didn't sit well with me so I decided to call again but this time instead of calling the main customer service number, I reached out to the fraud department which transfer me to the digital account opening department and the customer service rep was able to confirm that indeed two accounts were fraudulently opened with my identity. Subsequently I placed a freeze and fraud alerts on my credit report from all three credit bureaus and also XXXX. Five days later, the same thing happened again from Bank of America. Same chain of emails, email verification, online banking welcome email, application is in progress email and the final one : account is now open. I attempted to contact the bank but since it is Saturday the bank 's customer service is not available and the branch I visited was no help to do anything at all. I can not understand how after placing a fraud alert and security freeze on my financial information, Bank of America was able to open yet another fraudulent account with my identity. Better yet, in less than week I had already reported two fraudulent accounts to Bank of America. Who in their right mind opens three bank accounts in the same institutions in less than week time and the bank lets it happen without questioning any of it as fraudulent. Considering that I have note detected any other fraudulent activities with my identity, it leads me to believe that there is something shady happening with Bank of America to allow these fraudulent bank account opening activities to happen.

Consumer Complaint: In or around late XXXX early XX/XX/XXXX checking account with BOA garnished for around {$9000.00}. ( it was for almost {$4000.00} which was wrong anyhow all of it and BanK Of America hold onto XXXX amount of money ) I had a death in the family I was away and had another death in the family. I need to leave again I was very confused. I did not know it was a garnishment, and BOA treated me as though they didnt know me and they wouldnt give me any information. Finally, a woman by the name of XXXX left me a message and I have that message in full The details of this matter have haunted me since then, and since Im having so much trouble with Bank of America, I want to make an inquiry. XXXX said this company didnt give them any dates but held onto my money. This was during Covid. The banks were closed so I couldnt go into the bank and the courts were closed.. At a certain point they told me because the people had filed paperwork incorrectly that I could do something to release the money they kept a hold on my money for many months I think, until after XXXX the company ended up taking out {$6000.00}. This is a company that said they served me and I never received being served. I didnt even live at the address on the date that they said that they served me. It was an issue with that landlord. There was a bunch of illegal things going on at that apartment they told me I wasnt a good match for the roommates there. It was many years in the past and during Covid they took advantage of the situation and did this weird garnishment and I have paperwork proving everything in any case Im reading about Bank of America on XX/XX/XXXX issuing consent order against BanK Of America for freezing peoples account and turning over Consumer funds to pay off court ordered that they found a Bank of America engaged and unfair and deceptive ask and practices in violation of the Consumer financial protection active XXXX specifically a Bank of America unfairly required consumers to wave. Its liability as to consumers garnishment related protections, and its deposits, agreements, misrepresent it to consumers that they could not go to court to attempt to prevent wrongful garnishment..im reading about Bank of America XXXX XX/XX/XXXX issuing consent order against BanK Of America for freezing peoples account and turning over consumer funds to pay off court ordered that they found that BanK Of America engaged and unfair and deceptive acts in practices in violation of the Consumer financial protection act of XXXX, specifically a bank, America unfairly required consumers to waive its liability as to consumers garnishment related protections in its deposits, agreements misrepresented to consumers that they could not go to court to attempt to prevent wrongful garnishment Also, my account had an SBA loan that is not allowed to be used to pay for personal debt. I also was told by an employee at the bank that the company turned in paperwork to them that was not complete wasnt filled out properly, and that was to my advantage but they did nothing to help me. I do intend on taking this up in court eventually to dispute this companys unlawful attempt to get money for me. Ultimately they were supposed to take {$3000.00} but they took over {$3000.00} more, including a fee that Bank of America took for handling this transactions for my adversary XX/XX/XXXX Had a conversation with a woman by the name of XXXX from Bank of America I was told by the company that in the judgment against me BanK Of America was supposed to send me a check for {$3600.00} and I have this conversation recorded as well but BanK Of America never sent me that money theyre saying because I had money in my account they were not gon na send me {$3600.00} that I was told they were going to. XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, XXXX & XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, NY XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX I want this investigated to see if they follow the proper protocol and see if they robbed me because Im seeing that Bank Of America was sued for this on XX/XX/XXXX of XXXX docket number XXXX CFPB XXXX Post order/post judgment. The consent order requires Bank of America to refund at least & XXXX. Or cancel Associated unlawful garnishment related fees and pay a {$10.00} XXXX civil money penalty. The order also requires Bank of America to review and reform its systems for processing ornament garnishments I was garnished before this date so I have a funny feeling in a sneaky suspicion. They did This incorrectly, and possibly illegally I dont believe BanK Of America sent me any information. I could be wrong, but I didnt receive any information. They wouldnt tell me what this thing was. They held onto my money for many many many months, and far more money than his company said they were going to take was taken. I really couldnt find it because I could not go to court during that time BanK Of America has done many many wrong things a lot of things to put me in a lot of problems. I dont trust him at all and now that I ran into this information I want to see if they handled what happened to me correctly because Im haunted by that amount of money being able to take away from me and not even the amount that the company said they were going to take that it happened at all and that Bank of America took of Fee and also the money I was told they were supposed to give me a {$3600.00} never happened.
