Issue: Managing an account
Subissue: Deposits and withdrawals
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2023, between XXXX and XXXX Central time, an unknown person stole {$9700.00} from me. The perpetrator gained access to my online Bank of America account, changed my password and pin #, transferred {$9000.00} + $ XXXX ( {$11000.00} total ) between my two existing accounts, and then withdrew {$4800.00} + {$4900.00} ( {$9700.00} total ) in cash from a Bank of America location in XXXX XXXX, California at XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX, CA XXXX, respectively. I filed two separate fraud claims with Bank of America ( Reg E transaction and Unauthorized withdrawal ), as well as identity theft with the XXXX XXXX police for an investigation, but my bank fraud claims were both denied shortly after they were made because the person had my pin #. This is absurd. I come from NY and am based in XXXX, TN, and have never stepped foot in XXXX XXXX nor have any family there ( or anyone who would have access to my account ). If the perpetrator was able to get into my account, then of course he would be able to hack into and change my pin #. To stop the perpetrator from stealing any more of my money, I withdrew my remaining money from my two accounts at the XXXX location ( {$68.00} + {$10000.00} ) and had the associate place balance holds on the two accounts, preventing money from being withdrawn. In addition to accessing my Bank of America account, this perpetrator also got into my XXXX XXXX account and temporarily transferred my phone line to his device, rendering me unable to stop him on the spot via phone call. I had to go to the closest XXXX, XXXX, TN Bank of America location ( XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, TN XXXX ), which was where I learned the extent to which this was happening ( I could not get into my account prior because the perpetrator changed my password and pin, as stated prior ). All of this was happening while I was at the XXXX bank location ( XXXX XXXX was my associate ), and they would be willing to provide a statement if that can better my case. The fact that someone was able to go into a Bank of America location and withdraw money from my accounts acting as me is preposterous, as no one should be able to withdraw such large sums of money without a verified ID.

Consumer Complaint: I am unsuccessfully trying to receive the amount that was in my checking account before it was closed for no reason by the Bank of America. I called several times and they told me that I would only receive the amount after the total closure of the account, which would be on XX/XX/2023. It turns out that I have bills to pay for rent, insurance and others, including my salary being deposited on that account and now I'm unable to access it. This is causing me a lot of financial problems as I have almost XXXX dollars in the account which was also to pay my income tax. I need to get the money back immediately or I'm about to lose my job because I don't have money for insurance and gas for my car because I use it for my job. Please help me against this institution that is ending my life.

Consumer Complaint: Received email notification from Bank of America that there was a new application related to my name/social security number. There were several emails and I received them beginning at XXXXXXXX XXXX EST on XX/XX/2023. I looked up the fraud department number on the BofA website and contacted them at XXXX EST on XX/XX/2023. I verified my information and it was confirmed by BofA rep XXXX that an account had been opened using my information. He emailed me something related to fraud protection and advised that he was closing the fraudulent account. I thanked him and then I was placed on hold. I waited on hold for approximately XXXX minutes. I then spoke to BofA rep XXXX who once again verified my information, but advised that the account was NOT closed and that she was taking steps to actually close the account. XXXX not sure how someone was able to successfully open a bank account in my name without the emailed confirmation code, nor the correct address. I am also still not confident that the fraudulent account has truly been cancelled by Bank of America.

Consumer Complaint: At the end of XX/XX/XXXX I moved from XXXX PA to XXXX NY. I set up mail forwarding but because of this there is a delay in mail that is sent to my old address. On XX/XX/XXXX I received a letter that had gone to my former address in XXXX from Bank of XXXX about my account. I have never had an account with Bank of America. I went to the website and tried forgot my username/password and found that while the address was my former address and the social security number was mine, the phone number associated with the account was not mine. I did not even live at the address used when the account was opened. I called Bank of America and filed a claim against the account. Since then I have continued to receive bank statements for an account that is open in my name. I have called Bank of America numerous times to try to get updates and a timeline for when this account will be closed. They will not provide any updates or information. They have not provided any assistance in regard to identity theft protection. When I asked how it was possible for someone to open an account in my name without verification of identity they said " you could open an account right now over the phone if you wanted without any verification. '' This seems like a pretty bad system and I simply want this issue resolved so I don't have to spend additional hours of my life on hold with Bank of America for absolutely no reason.

In XXXX of XXXX it appears they opened a checking account for me without my permission and now they're charging me maintenance fees on it because I do not use it. Consumer Complaint: My original Bank of America checking account has shown two fraudulent bill pay payment to XXXX XXXX credit card ( amount : XXXX USD ) on XX/XX/2023 and to XXXX XXXX credit card ( XXXX USD ) on XX/XX/2023. Bank of America had never notified me of these two fraudulent transactions, and I discovered these suspicious activities on XX/XX/2023 and immediately contacted Bank of America for fraud claim and froze my original checking account. I have never made any previous transactions to these 2 banks, nor I do possess any of their credit cards, and I was always careful with the cybersecurity of my devices with regular anti-viral software clean-up, but somehow still encountered fraud activities. However, after initial investigation, Bank of America denied my claim, neglecting their responsibility of safeguarding the properties of their client. Therefore I'm filing this complaint in desperate need of your help to make Bank of America honor my claim as this huge amount of fraud loss has put my everyday living in critical conditions. Thank you so much and I hope to hear from you very soon.

Issue: Closing your account
Subissue: Company closed your account
Consumer Complaint: Sometime in XX/XX/2023 Bank of America ( BoA ) decided to close my personal checking account ( XXXX ) and credit card account ( XXXX ). Letters were mailed to my home address stating the checking account would be restricted in 21 days and closed in 30 days, whereas my credit card account was closed on the day the letter was sent. The only explanation I was given for the closure was that my risk profile no longer aligns with the banks risk tolerance. Nothing has changed in my personal or financial life over the past 12+ months. The only item I can imagine impacting BoAs decision is that I recently purchased a new car with an auto loan through BoA. The auto loan was for $ XXXX over 5 years and is well within my budget. I also sold my old vehicle for $ XXXX to a local dealership and deposited the check into my former BoA checking account before it was closed. Most importantly, I was told that my {$1200.00} in Cash Rewards that I had earned on my Cash Rewards World XXXX credit card ( XXXX ) will be forfeited. The rewards are still visible and available when I log in to my BoA account, but are unable to be redeemed. I have a remaining balance due on my last credit card statement and wish to redeem all of my earned Cash Rewards against the remaining balance or receive a check for the total value of the rewards. I have included a screenshot of my credit card account dashboard that includes the Total Cash Rewards balance. The screenshot is from XX/XX/2023. Ive called BoA and spoken to numerous individuals without any resolution. Ive been given no explanation for why both accounts were closed and have been told that my credit card rewards are no longer available. It would seem the Bank of America arbitrarily closed my accounts and prevented me from redeeming my earned rewards in order to avoid paying me {$1200.00}.
