Subissue: Overdrafts and overdraft fees
Consumer Complaint: Throughout my many years of being a consumer with Bank of America, my checking account was charged extended overdraft fees on numerous occasions. Whenever incidents occurred, I called to complain. Some fees were partially refunded but, many were not. This caused me great hardship. I'm now learning that the bank 's practices were illegal to begin with. I'm currently going through my past bank statements. I see many occurrences and I'm just on years XXXX and XXXX. My overdraft fees doubled from {$35.00} to {$70.00} on numerous occasions.

Issue: Fees or interest
Subissue: Problem with fees
Consumer Complaint: Last XXXX, before the annual fee was due on my credit card, I called Bank of America ( BOA ) to request a downgrade of the card to a no-annual-fee card. However, the customer service representative informed me that they couldn't downgrade the card, so I decided to close the account. At that time, I had overpaid on my credit card, and BOA sent me a check for the excess amount. Please see the attachment. In XXXX, I contacted BOA to inquire about why I still had outstanding balances when I thought I had closed the account. They informed me that my account had not been closed. After explaining the situation and providing details of the transaction in the attachment, they waived the late fee and tried to waive the annual fee. Since XXXX, I continued to have outstanding balances, and recently my credit score suddenly dropped. It was then that I realized it was due to this closed account. I immediately called to inquire, questioning why still have the due for my closed account. They informed me that the annual fee couldn't be waived, and the delinquent status could not be removed ; I had to pay. I felt unfair and sad. This is not my fault, but it hurt my credit. In a subsequent call, another representative claimed not to see the transaction on their records on XX/XX/XXXX, which is shown in my attachment and insisted that I had called multiple times to waive the fee. In reality, I had only discussed the annual fee in the XXXX call and XX/XX/XXXX to figure out the delinquency. Moreover, they accused me of imagining that I closed the account in XXXX. They didn't trust me and explained the transaction on XX/XX/XXXX. When I asked if the delinquency mark could be removed, they stated that it was my fault for intentionally not paying the annual fee for so long, and they couldn't do anything about it. Feeling unfairly treated, I eventually paid the overdue amount to avoid interest, even though it wasn't my fault. Their tone made me feel like they thought I was unreasonable and paranoid. Throughout the past few years, I have never defaulted on a credit card, but due to BoA 's mistake, my credit score has dropped over XXXX. I didn't know why my account was not closed last XXXX, the attachment is only evidence since BOA insisted I only did the conversion in my brain.

Subissue: Cashing a check
Consumer Complaint: I deposited a check in the amount of {$520.00} to a Bank of America ATM machine. I contacted the bank over and over again to find out why the check was not credited to my checking account. The bank told me I had to get proof of the check because they did not receive the ATM check deposit. I asked XXXX XXXX over and over again to send me a copy of the check and proof that it had been cashed. I asked them several times to send me a copy and they never did. I had to file a complaint against XXXX in order for them to send me the copy of the check and proof that it had been cashed. They finally sent me the information and I provided it to Bank of America and they have not responded to me. This has been going on for a year now and the bank has been giving me the run around this entire time. I asked BOA to investigate what happened and they have not done so. I have a copy of the check and proof that it was cashed.

Consumer Complaint: I setup auto pay when I got the card, and have had no problems with payment. The other day I went to use the card and it was turned off. I called and they said it was from a late payment. The late payment was for a late payment fee. My payments are scheduled and processed by them, I have no control over an auto payment. If they have internal processing issues and charging customers late fees that is fraud. I called and the lady said that she removed the fee, it is not removed, and it is also making my rates change and cascade, I think this is a scam they are pulling. I tried calling again and waited on hold for over 3 hours before hanging up.
