Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement

Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement

Consumer Complaint: XXXX has charged me for a subscription that is not giving me and American Express is charging me for the subscription even though I have submitted proof that I have not received the service, instead, I have a free subscription. On XX/XX/2021, I checked my American Express credit card account and noticed that XXXX had automatically renewed my subscription. I immediately contacted them to request the cancelation of the subscription. I received an email stating that they will not renew my XXXX subscription. They did not return the subscription money to my American Express credit card account. I tried to call them but nowhere had they listed a phone number. Resigned to have the subscription for one more year I login into my account and they had canceled the subscription but had not reimbursed their fee to my account. I contacted them each time I checked the XXXX account ( please see attachment, they have me as a free account ) but they kept both my money and the cancelation. I contacted American Express and they did nothing to validate my request. They accepted XXXX 's statement that it was a valid account even though I have sent American Express the attachment showing that it is a free account XXXX is given me. American Express kept on charging me over and over the subscription fees each time XXXX denied the claim. I had to spend hours contacting XXXX and American Express every month since XX/XX/2021.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement

Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2021, I am a NJ resident, and I purchased a used vehicle and warranty from a dealer in PA. I put the down payment of XXXX on my American Express and completed the paperwork to pay via auto loan. I had the car for a week ( XX/XX/XXXX ) and was actually on my way to the XXXX XXXX XXXX vehicles when the car shut down in the middle of traffic. This nearly caused another car to hit me in the back. I was able to get the car towed to a XXXX dealership and found that the car had a recently replaced lever which was seated improperly and therefore the axel needed to be replaced. They also found metal in the transmission and advised me it would cost XXXX to replace. I contacted the dealer and asked them to take back the car and to cancel the deal. ( This was all through texts which I still have. ) Initially they refused and I called American Express and reported the purchase as a dispute since items were not sold to me in the condition promised. When the dealer received notice of my dispute, he agreed to take the car back and to cancel the auto loan deal. They sent me proof of this, and I forwarded this info to American Express. First, American Express returned the funds to the dealer stating the dealer advised them I had no warranty. When I resubmitted the complaint and provided the same proof again and confirmed they received it, they reopened the complaint. A few weeks later they gave the funds back again claiming they have no proof that I no longer had the vehicle. When I sent in proof showing I no longer had the vehicle they reopened the complaint again. A few weeks later they closed the complaint again and sent the funds to the dealer again claiming I did not allow the dealer to get the car when I first filed a complaint. I submitted more proof showing them text between the dealer and myself proving I asked the dealer to take back the car repeatedly and the dealer only agreed after I submitted my dispute with American Express. During this whole back and forth, I also uncovered the XXXX which also showed the dealer lied about the mileage on the car. I also submitted this proof to American Express. At this point they are just wasting my time. I believe this credit card company is finding in favor of the dealer because the dealer advised me, he was a black card holder with American Express and had been with them for a long time. He brought this up unprompted when I presented my American Express for down payment. It makes no sense that I am expected to pay American Express for a vehicle I do not own or have in my possession. The car was taken back and the auto loan was cancelled and I proved the vehicle was not in a condition congruent with used car laws of PA.

Subissue: Credit card company forcing arbitration

Consumer Complaint: We have been paying our credit card for over five years and were recently alerted that we have been taken to a small claims court. We have contacted the attorney representing them, contacting American Express ( said they are researching it ) and contacted XXXX XXXX XXXX ( nonprofit counseling service ) who pays our credit card bills. It has been several weeks of contacting all three companies and even just sent the attorneys screenshots/proof from Amex 's website clearly showing 14 consecutive monthly payments ( see attached ) from XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX with no missed payments. This is clearly an abuse of power and very unethical for a bank to have this type of power without any type of reasoning and or proof for arbitration. We need the federal government to assist us with this great abuse of power from this bank.

Issue: Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers

Subissue: Didn't receive advertised or promotional terms

Consumer Complaint: I applied for an Amex XXXX XXXX XXXX with an offer of XXXX miles if a spent {$1000.00} within the first XXXX months. When I contacted American Express after the XXXX months, I was told that the offer was changed to XXXX miles if I spent {$2000.00}. However, time for me to spend {$2000.00} had expired so I was not eligible because I didn't spend {$2000.00}. When I explained that this was not the deal and that I had not been notified of this change, I was told there was nothing they could do for me. This is a typical bait and switch scam. I advised I would be reported them ( American Express ) and had them close my account.

Issue: Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers

Subissue: Didn't receive advertised or promotional terms

Consumer Complaint: Applied for Hilton honors credit card on XX/XX/XXXX and was approved. I saw an email promotional offer via email a few days after applying and prior to receiving my card. Filed a claim to avail 0 % APR for first 12 months and bigger bonus points as mentioned in email offer. I followed-up a few days after and about a week after that but they said it was still pending review. I followed-up again on XX/XX/XXXX and was advised by bank representative that my claim was denied. I looked through my emails and saw that the offer was actually emailed to me several times prior to opening account with first time receiving in XX/XX/XXXX. Same offer was emailed again on the following dates : XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, and XX/XX/XXXX. I tried asking another agent to open a new case, in light of this new information but they wouldnt even reconsider. I was forced to thinking of opening a new card, a different type than the one I had opened as this other card had a {$95.00} annual fee and I was advised by agent I would be able to avail 0 % APR if I applied and was approved. However, 4 to 6 hours later, the promotional link no longer worked, when clearly, it worked fine in the morning. They now claim that the offer can not be applied to my account and that they cant locate that same offer theyve sent me.

Consumer Complaint: I am an an independent XXXX XXXXXXXX working as a sole proprietor Delaware XXXX under the name XXXX XXXX XXXX. I have a client, XXXX, located in XXXX XXXX. On XX/XX/2021 I, XXXX XXXX XXXX, issued an invoice to XXXX via XXXX XXXX XXXX in the amount of {$650.00} USD. XXXX paid the invoice with an American Express card via XXXX on XX/XX/2021. Approximately 10 days later XXXX discovered a fraudulent transaction on their American Express account unrelated to their business with me, XXXX XXXX XXXX. According to XXXX, when they reported the fraudulent transaction to American Express, American Express without notice or authorization from XXXX, proceeded to cancel and chargeback all transactions that had be made account during the proceeding month. I received a notice of chargeback on the XXXX payment from XXXX on XX/XX/2021. I immediately contacted XXXX and they advised me that American Express had " the same problem with ( another vendor ) .... Amercian Express cancelled all payments without telling us. We are so sorry about this. ". I attached XXXX 's reassurance that the chargeback was not authorized by them to my response to XXXX however XXXX, on or about XX/XX/2021, determined that my response was insufficient to contest the chargeback and without any further notice to me, proceeded to close the case an issue a refund of the {$650.00} payment and charge me a {$35.00} dispute fee. So me, XXXX XXXX XXXX the seller and XXXX the buyer have, and never have had, any dispute with each other over this payment. American Express has, without the card holder 's authorization, imperiled XXXX 's business relationships and deprived me, XXXX XXXX XXXX, the seller of a duly authorized payment. XXXX has assured me, XXXX XXXX XXXX, since XXXX that American Express has acknowledged the problem and promised to reverse the chargeback. XXXX has advised me that American Express has in fact reinstated the charge to their account. XXXX however tells me, XXXX XXXX XXXX, that they have no notice a reversal of the chargeback and therefore the {$650.00} debit plus the {$35.00} remain on my account. At this point, American Express has effectively robbed both XXXX and I of lawful funds. They have caused immeasurable damage and friction between two otherwise happy businesses.

Subissue: Problem with rewards from credit card

Consumer Complaint: I opened up a complaint ( XXXX ) that was closed based on American Express response XXXX They indicated that I was informed that I was not eligible for the promo offer of XXXX XXXX miles. I was NEVER notified. I would have cancelled my application at that time. Because I was not notified I made the required spend only to find out months later that I was not receiving the miles. I would like a copy of what I was sent and proof that it was sent and acknowledged by me. I went through all of my emails and have no such email. I also did not receive any written acknowledgment. My wife received a promotion to make a referral which she did and it advertised XXXX miles. I received the referral and completed the application from the referral I received from American Express. I was then approved very quickly but no mention was made about the possibility of not receiving the miles. I have a credit score of XXXX so how is that they want my business but wont follow thru with the miles they promised? This is very unethical!
